Forecast for 10 cm of snow today so should top everything up nicely, although the avalanche risk will be very high Puzzled

Well i'ts still snowing (13:30) but you can't see it because the vis in Le Lac is less than 75m - we are sat in a cloud. Its difficult to tell how much snow as arrived as it is above freezing in the village so the roads are wet and the snow on the roofs is melting. Not surprisingly it feels quite damp in the village - so for me it was the pool and a quick km of breast stroke before lunch. However higher up I am sure it will be great tomorrow and of course the snow landing on the pistes will not be melting snowHead snowHead

So looks like Russeh, has timed it perfectly - overall next week is looking a bit unsettled .

The early forecast for the airports tomorrow - in the UK the only issue of note is Leeds Bradford where there is a 30% chance of snow and low cloud through the morning which could delay things if it actually transpires. At this end, providing the slim chance of early morning mist clears at Grenoble it should be just fine for landing - though you might need a brolly between the aircraft and the terminal. Other than the amount of traffic as its still going to be relatively warm the roads should be good all way to resort.

Oooops - looks like the forecaster at Geneva got it very wrong - thick fog there this morning which I suspect is the reason for the sorry list of delays this morning. Still here in Tignes the sky is covered but its quite bright so time to find if yesterday's snow is good or fantastic. snowHead

PS The main road into the village is already black so should be a reasonable trip up the hill

A game of two halves for me today. It was quite bright this morning (unlike Geneva) so off we went equipped for all eventualities; the pistes were in fabulous condition after yesterdays snow. Unfortunately, there was only about 5-8cm off piste on top of a crusty surface - so the lines around Grattalu looked fantastic but it was actually blinkin' hard work to ski and the fresh was consolidating very quickly because of the unseasonal temps. The light faded very badly around lunchtime

Then it was home for lunch to await a mate who's out here for 2 and a half days. Yes his flight was delayed into GVA but Jean Alesi must have been driving the Altibus so we managed a mad 2 hours around the Palafour after a combat change from travelling to skiing kit. Luckily the light improved and much fun was had. Arrived at the Palafour with 5 minutes to go for the last slide of the day.

Looking forward to a big day tomorrow. snowHead snowHead snowHead

shoogly, Cooling down this week - hopefully with some snow.

Today was the big day out with a mate from times past. We easily managed the four corners of the piste map - generally the pistes were in fantastic condition - although Brev had started to freeze over late afternoon - oh and Foret in le Fornet where the moguls were like Volkswagen Beetles parked at all angles. Unfortunately at 12.30 they were still very icy so that took quite a while. Embarassed Best snow of the day was the Fornet Glacier which required 4 laps just to make sure it was still good. Cool Comedy moment of the day was on the lower face of the Grand Motte Glacier. There was a couple of the small single prop jobs landing on skids - they basically land up the hill - throw a U-ey and take off down slope. Today one was landing as the other took off - unfortunately a skier only saw one and then probably thought it would be a giggle to ski across the tracks - you guessed it - the second aircraft started his take off run and went over his head - it looked quite close (not sure of the horizontal separation).

Forecast for next week is very unpredictable safe to say there will be some sun some clouds and some snow - just not sure how much and when!

Snowing this morning. Visibility horrible but gradually cleared through the late morning. Skied down to Brevieres in the hope of some help from the trees but none was really available so I went back up and over to the Val d'Isere side where the top of Mont Blanc (the lift rather than the mountain) was shrouded in cloud. The snow however was pretty good - once you could see it. I had to come in early for business reasons (conference call with Turkey and the US - no rest for the wicked) and so was leaving the slopes as the sun came out good and proper. Bogus junior was out in the afternoon and reports that the snow was getting very soft in weather suitable for wearing shorts. The forecast says it will cool down later in the week. Hope that's correct.

Bogusman, You missed the best bit unfortunately! One of this morning's clouds had put about 5 cm of fresh on the Motte and Genepy - so on the gentle bits they almost counted as powder turns (honest wink ). Mixed weather tomorrow.......

Late start after seeing mate back on the bus (plus a late night in the Jam Bar!) Today was the reverse of yesterday nice and bright this morning; it is now snowing moderately in the village, opinions vary as to the amount but the consensus is for mixed weather through the week and getting quite cold for the time of year, so if you are coming out next week - don't rely on spring like temperatures - but I hope it warms up a bit for spectating at the X Games which start on the 20th with training for a couple of days beforehand.

Got on the first chair on Paquis this morning which led to the unprecedented sight (for me) of a completely empty Piste H ahead of me down to Val Claret. Up on the Motte the cable car was flying through the clouds. In the afternoon the light just suddenly disappeared completely and bacame utterly flat which made popular pistes like Double M and Lac highly entertaining. Paris school holiday crowds combined with lumpy bumpy snow that no one could see. Lovely stuff. As chocksaway, says it's now snowing and has been quite steadily for the last hour or so. Let's see what tomorrow brings.

Bluebird day and after last nights few centimetres everything looked perfect. As we skied through the day you could see the clouds build up around us - quite a lot of cumulus bubbling up into castellatus so who knows we may get another shower or two tonight. As for later in the weekend (sat night on) we may be in for quite a dump - for those coming Sat should be OK for those on Sun don't be tempted against bringing snow chains! Spent most of the day in Fornet - just superb with some powdery turns to be had on shady slopes (with a few bumps underneath to make it challenging.

The pisteurs are putting on a show tonight in the centre of town - avalanche dogs digging out small children and a few explosions etc - hope my windows survive Shocked

chocksaway, Quite right. Those bluebirds were fluttering away all day. Some pretty impressive cloud formations in the distance but over the Espace Killy all was blue skies and sunshine. Last evening's few centimetres freshened things up nicely too. Here's to two more of the same!

Captain Snowy, Forecast is for heavy snow Sun into Mon and then light snow till Wed - then maybe some sun. Its going to be hard work for the X-Games gang to get things ready in time - I understand they are not too keen on 60cm of fresh in the bottom of the half pipe! we have just had a a heavy shower - light just improving.

Not got an e mail for Nevada but phone no is 04 79 24 10 36 - Jo Jo speaks English as I recall.

Forecasting has been way off his week as far as snow. I got here Saturday and was about 50cm forecast midweek. Seen maybe 2-8 cm so far. Snowing now lightly and has made a slight difference.
Snow is pretty localised, top of the grand pre - sunny and good light, toviere to la daille snowing and flatish light.

Basically 24hours out is as much as I would get excited about with the forecast. Conditions are good even if it didn't snow, of course if it does dump 60cm I'd be delighted!

Off back out now, heading up fornet direction, will see what the weather brings us!

Very Happy

Winters back folks! Cold windy up high but it has been snowing lightly all day.

The forecast is firming up nicely for a big dump; I know some forecasts have been out recently - especially some of the more basic apps. But over the last couple of weeks the weather patterns have meant snow coming from the Italian side and some days it just doesn't make it over the hill. However, the fronts coming in for Sunday are coming from the west and are very broad. I know we are still 3 days out and that is a relatively long time in forecasting during unsettled periods but if you are coming next week - watch this animation and get excited:

Definitely cold and windy higher up today. The sun was shining in Val Claret at about 9.30 but thick cloud greeted me in the tranquil valley so I quickly returned to the Tignes side of the mountain. The snow kept up pretty much all day and the visibility was patchy to say the least. Despite that it was a good day to be in the mountains.

Now look - its been 12 weeks since I was last out playing, and then it flippin chucked it down. I have put up with having emails and calls from our renters, saying how nice the snow it etc. Got Mrs CS and 2 x daughters (23 and 20 - both single . . . if you are a billionaire - I am sure we can come to an agreement - mail me) with me for the next week at our place in Val Clar. I want sun and blue skies - not more snow - its simple to ask - makes for a happier time - no moaning; no whinging; just happy people . . . Is that too much to ask?????!!!!! Looked at the animation . . . Not happy - They will moan about having to wear goggles (and no doubt one will have lost theirs - so muggins will have to pay again . . ); the cold; not being able to see - the list goes on. There is a limit to how littl eone can hear when wearing a helmet - (note to self - maybe I need more padding in there to dull the sound . . . )

I want/NEED blue skies - is that too much to ask??!!!!!!

Stayed cold and clearish - very cold as you skied through the wispy bits of cloud. There was still enough light to do a bit of powder hunting - the best was to be found down Familial into Triffolet (thanks to snowHead Steve A at t'other side of the hill for that tip). In places it was a foot deep which was a tad surprising. Still cool now as I lugged the shopping up the road - tomorrow looks like being a good day and after that - well the dump is still coming late/Sun and Mon. We may get more than half a metre - if you are coming next week think early Feb temps rather than mid March - its going to be unsettled through the week so bring the long johns and goggles.

As for the airports tomorrow - currently showing no snags at this end - might be a bit bumpy on landing for those going home, especially for those heading to London.

Oh, and don't forget the Geneva Motor Show is still on in the Expo next to the airport - it was chaos last week, so if you are self driving - leave in good time - there were people walking down the hard shoulder of the motorway last weekend to make check in - not sure that Swiss Car Rental firms would be very understanding if you abandoned their finest though Shocked

Safe travels!

PS Captain S - I prescribe 3 pints of Mutzig - that should dull the pain.

Tried to ski the four corners today but the Grand Motte was closed at around 10 am when we needed to get there. So, we carried on and managed to do the other three at least. The top of the Val D'Isere glacier was as cold and windy as I can ever remember. However the snow was pretty good and the visibility was mostly OK although patchy at times. This has been a mixed bag of a week but on the whole more good than bad. With really low temperatures now and a forecast dump this coming week it should be a very good late season for the Espace Killy.

The storm clouds are gathering! Absolutely fabulous on piste skiing with bright sun, a chilly breeze and very few people. As the morning progressed we could see the high clouds edging towards us ahead of the front that will bring the snow. Some of the heavier forecasts have moved just to the south of us but the forecasts are still for 30-40cm over the next 48 hours snowHead

They are putting the final touches to the X games facilities the ramps on the slopestyle are 'ginormous' and all the advertising hoardings have gone up - evidently wearing a Tinky Winky head camera makes you a hero Confused

For the airports tomorrow expect a bumpy arrival at Lyon and Grenoble - due to the winds. There is also a chance of snow very early in the morning at Geneva - if the forecast is correct(remember last week!) it should all have gone before the UK flights arrive. The UK will be wet and breezy.
