Been doing some great routes in the last few days, over the back down to Villaroger and in La plagne. Great snow in all places. Legs are tired, well a little, might have a day off tomorrow as weather is turning again.
The bowl on the glacier in La Plagne was great today, lots of fresh tracks and not many people, it was very cold. Down to the Friolin was deep powder all the way. Great fun and fresh tracks top to bottom most of the time.
Yesterday we also had untracked powder down to nancroix and over the back was challenging with a real mix of snow from top to bottom.
See more pics over at my facebook page.

The piste coming home were getting icy in places going into the van express and Arc 1800, but the rest were in great condition everywhere. Firm but forgiving.
Light snow tonight so should be good by wednesday.

Anyone looking for an instructor in LA, look up Rob Hutchinson, or PM me for phone number, although just about every place in Vallandry has his card. Had a cracking 'seasonaires' off piste lesson / afternoon, this bloke really knows his stuff.
Visability was bad this afternoon, but Rob [above] made the most of it, it got us all sking 'in front' and not 'at our feet', to the point, don't know where, but was sking in powder, and went off a ledge, normally that would be curtains pour moi, but dropped, and all was fine.
Snow everywhere is fine, off-piste is cracking, as long as you have someone to lead the way.

This morning, good light, sometimes full sunshine. Pistes were superb in the morning after a small top-up overnight. In the afternoon the weather closed in a bit and the light was generally flat.

Whole resort is still in great shape.
Still loads of powder to be found, not that far from lifts. Played around Comborciere mostly today, got fresh tracks on the 'alternative' entrance (off-piste left as you look up from the lift from half way down - there are a few trees), then went back up and did the gulley - left when you actually get off the lift.
Lunchtime looked bleak, clouds really came over, but all came to nothing, blue skies all afternoon. Top of the Launchettes was freezing, Drosset was good fun and deserted. Back up Comborciere and through 'M'. Straight over the side, got some fresh tracks but did take a tumble, and only just made it out of the bowl without hiking.
Another off-piste lesson tomorrow morning, early night tonight

allanm, not sure why will re send it later as must go out in few minutes.
Another great day in the sun. Sorry all you folks sitting at home or worse in the office. The sky was blue, the sun was out and it was almost warm, -3 to -8 most of the day. The wind did get up as you went up varet, and on the top of AR it was blowing, but not to bad. There is a lot of wind slab or just windy blow around and quite a bit of the good snow has been blown away, but in the gully areas where the wind cannot get at it or on the sheltered faces you can still find some great powder in short spurts.
Played around all over, did not see allanm even though we were in the same area some of the day. Big place though. Going down the unpisted blacks is interesting, I do wonder how the red off the ridge by arpette is not a black, the drop onto the moguls is getting very large now.
All the pistes seem to be in great condition although hard packed and as the day ended the runs back down to 1950 and then 1600 were getting icy where the fresh snow had been scrapped away.
They say the bad weather is back tomorrow, we need more fresh powder so I hope they are right. Right now it is a clear sky and stars, but one never knows, here's to hoping.

No on-piste for me today did the Col de la Chal with four other seasonaires instucted by Rob (see last post). Apart from a bit of crud, conditions were brilliant, all fresh tracks... just fell over a lot! Packed up lunchtime.
Nice thing about these seasonaires days is that, unlike taking a guide, who will just wait for you when you fall over, we had a post mortem! Brilliant.
Much warmer today, but weather looks to change now.

On-piste conditions today remained pretty good. Unlike allanm, we did most of the pistes around Col de la Chal. Lovely sunshine and warm. We're now waiting for it to snow

Yet more sunshine today. Sounds nice but we had all hoped it would snow again. The weather man said it would, some guides said it would, but my secret weather man at the altiport left the deck chairs out and he was right.
On the other hand what a great day to play in the snow. Did the back of AR yet again, this time from the Grand Col. Really fun. Found some fresh powder and a lot of other mixed snow, but steep off piste in the gully was great and the alternate route down was INTERESTING!!!! After lunch played around to the left of the varet and off the middle ridge. Great conditions all day. The pistes back into resorts are holding up well and all the sheltered areas still seem to have good snow conditions although we did find a few icy patches late in the afternoon again.
Now the wind is blowing, they say it will snow again tomorrow. I wonder if they are right this time. Will have a look in the morning.

Snow Snow and more snow. At last the snow has started to fall. It began early, before lunch and is still falling now. Light at times with heavier spells. The snow line is from the valley floor right up to the top of AR I would guess as it has been closed all day. The roads are being cleared all the time but the signs are flashing, telling drivers they must have chains. Be warned, the police might stop you on the way up if you do not have them.
As a result although I started by meeting up with SCGB to say goodbye to those leaving tomorrow and skiing on the busy pistes around Peisey Vallandry and then headed over and down to the new bubble bar in the Arc 2000 bowl. I quickly realiesed the best skiing was over in the Arc 1600 forest, said my goodbyes and headed over to join other friends there.
Great move, much better vis, light powder and loads of fun. We skied till about 1pm on many different tracks in the forest and then had a nice lunch before heading up to find even more fresh untracked powder under the lifts and further away from the pistes. Sorry know pics today, to busy enjoying myself. Excellent fun, and it just kept on snowing. For those that prefer the pistes. They now have a nice covering of fresh snow over a hard base in all parts of the resort although some places coming into stations are icy just under the fresh snow and the mogul runs are a mix of hard snow and soft in the gaps between them.
Finally, with all the fresh snow we set off to ski through the forest back to Les Grange (mid station of funi) and maybe Bourg. By the mid station snow was getting heavy so we took the funi instead. If it keeps up all night we may ski all the way down tomorrow. Another wonderful day in the mountains.

End of another great week in Les Arcs - mixture of blue sky days with small top ups of snow and then continous moderate snow all day today (Friday) without a break. Temps of -21c at the start of the week up to just below freezing today in the snow. Headed over to Peisey forests as well today and good decision though was a bit of a challenge getting there from 1950. Did the boarder cross on the way home and heavy snow made it difficult to see anything - had my most spectacular @rse over elbow crash having totally lost where the sides of the course were - much to the amusement of the smaller Bungles.
Sitting in the lobby now at 11:30pm and its still snowing - about 15-20cm today I would say which made the torchlit descent into 1950 fun tonight! once it all calms down, going to make for great conditions for those here next week - enjoy.

The powder came by the bucket load yesterday. It kept going all night and this morning the vis was ok so up for first lifts and hunt the fresh untracked lines. What a great day. Started at 9am and finished at almost 5pm. Spent most of the morning over around comborciere, first tracks by four different routes, top to bottom, great powder and a mix of open areas, trees and steepish drops. Then down through the forest to Arc 1600 and back up and over to 2000 bowl. Quick break for lunch (I like the new bubble bar) and up/down bois de l'ours.
As the weather closed in and the snow came down yet again , so over to Deux Tetes and played around in the natur ride areas for a while. Down through the forest to Arc 1600, up to the Altiport for hot chocolate , then up clocheret and along the ridge above cachette, quick ride down the powder and all the way home. The few pistes I did today were in excellent condition and should stay that way for a few days even with the resort nearly full. The school holidays have begun, French then Brits plus loads of others, it looks like it will be a busy Feb. The lifts open at 9am now and the last lifts close at 5.15pm.
Waiting to see if the sun really comes out in the morning and makes it a perfect weekend. 'Fresh powder and blue sky'. Should be good.

Today was one of those days you live for. Blue sky, just the right temp not to hot or cold, light fluffy powder to make those fresh turns in, great company!! What more can I say.
Went up early, empty pistes at 9am. Across well groomed runs to the van express, started to get busy. Made our way to the middle bubble of belle plagne via a couple of nice powder fields that were not to tracked out. Gave up on the queue and went to the chairs in bellecote la plagne.
Made it to Roche de Mio, over the back behind the restaurant down some nice but well tracked powder fields to the lower chair in the bowl below. Up to the glacier and onto the North Face.
What a sight, plenty of un-tracked areas to put our lines, the wind had not been there. Only one word. Excellent. After a great trip down, look at the pics if you want to know more. Better not tease you. Took the shuttle back to Peisey and late lunch at the Arpette restaurant.
After lunch, up arpette, down off the top to combonciere. Up the slowest lift in the whole world (well maybe not but it sure seems like it). Almost done for the day. Down the back valley, still had good powder but well tracked. Up maybe an even slower lift back to Arc 2000 bowl. Then a little off piste route to George's Wine bar for a few well earned drinks.
Although it was a full on off piste day, getting from place to place meant crossing or using a few pistes. They are busy. Lifts are busy. To many people out of control. Much safer off piste in Feb. But the pistes are all in great condition and they say it will snow tonight although there is know sign of this happening right now. Another great day on the hill, hurry up and get out here if you can.

Cloud and light snow most of the day with a few sunny moments. Cruised around the natur ride areas and found a little powder but the whole place is well tracked. I hope the dump that is promised arrives tonight. After the last few days, guess it was a bit of a wind down today.

What a horrible day. Went up, saw the bad weaher and came home, YUK. I hope the snow falls heavier tonight and we get some real powder to ski or board on and not just this soft, wet, heavy sticky stuff we had. They say it will get colder again now, so let's hope for a great day tomorrow.

The powder is back. What a day!! Great warm up in the combonciere valley and trees. Two trips down to Villaroger by different off piste routes. All in deep powder. Blue sky coming and going with little ice crystals in the air. Just perfect. Go see the pics, words cannot say enough!!

A great day in the Bellecote bowl. Fresh light un-tracked powder in many places. Great conditions and loads of pics to follow, but not tonight. Time for a beer. Boy was it cold on the way back home. My hands froze, I need new gloves.
The pistes across to la plagne and the glacier were in excellent condition, firm but not icy even on the way home. The same over in Les Arcs, great conditions on all the pistes from Arc 1600 to peisey and back to Arc 1950.
Remember if you are coming out, pop into George's Wine Bar in Arc 1950 any evening after skiing from 5pm to about 6.30pm for a chat and a beer. Maybe even to arrange a ski or boarding day out. If you are in Arc 2000 it is easy to get to and from Arc 1950 as the free gondala runs until 11pm in the evenings.

Sorry folks but just have to tell you what great weather we have been having. Yesterday under blue sky and no wind did about 2Km of untracked powder, sure you can guess where. No pics this time, to busy enjoying it. Then went to another favorite and still found more powder, although not as long, maybe 1km this time. Also had some nice warm ups on the Roche de Mio face and the Bellecote bowl. What a day. Even had time for a nice lunch at the bottom by the cross country course. Did not do many pistes that day.
Then today, blue sky again, still little wind and although most of Les Arcs is well tracked, there are still a few pockets worth exploring. Someone nearly lost a ski in the powder, yes even when it is mostly tracked you still need powder tracers if you are unlucky, but he found it after about 30 min of hunting. Plenty of people about now, but if you keep going through lunch, eat late and choose your lifts you can avoid the crowds. Pistes are still in great condition all over the resort and they say there might be more snow by the end of the week. This is turning into a very good winter
If anyone else is coming out, visit my facebook page to see the pics, send me a PM or post here if you want to meet for a beer, chat or even have a ski or snowboard.

Today started out looking ok with blue sky and some high clouds. By 11am the clouds had arrived and we had flat light. Then the wind picked up and blew the clouds away for a time and then we had mixed weather, clouds and sunny spells for the rest of the day. BUT no snow!!! maybe a tiny bit high up around 4.30pm but not much. Now they say it will come tonight or tomorrow, we will see!
The pistes were very busy and so were the lifts. The main lift up the middle of Arc 2000 bowl, Arcabulle broke down and caused big queues in other areas. Yuk!!!
Time to go find some powder, went off the back down to nancoix, not bad some fresh lines but not to many. Then back up and over to Villaroger through the back country. More soft snow but few places to put fresh tracks.
Not a bad day in the end , but the pistes are starting to look worn and icy in places with all the people here and the off piste conditions, whilst it is ok we do need some fresh snow.

Today we went on a tour to Mont Albert for a great lunch and back to Les Arcs. Hard work with all the people on the pistes and in lift queues. But still a fun day out. Now the place needs some fresh snow. The pistes are starting to get icy and hard packed back into all stations. The off piste is well tracked and some places are getting quite wind blown. But the clouds are back tonight so fingers crossed.

The fresh snow of the last 24hrs has done the trick to freshen up the slopes today and make them very pleasant. The off piste was also good with about 5 to 10 cm (depending on where you were on the mountain and the wind effect) covering the hard base which was quite light and fluffy due to the cold temps. The start of the day was quite mixed with clouds hanging on the ridge between Arc 1800 and 2000 Bowl. Up on the grand col off piste was stable and gave plenty of fresh tracks early in the day in good light, even a bit of sun coming through. Later, the clouds moved up the mountain and we followed the sun with a good decent down to Villaroger area off piste for a late lunch at the Solliet, very nice.
When we came outside, it was cold, windy, cloudy and snowing lightly so time to go down for a few beers and home. Still clouded over outside right now so might be more fresh snow to play in tomorrow if the sun comes out!!

The pistes are in good condition throughout Les Arcs due to the fresh snow we had in the last couple of days. Villaroger is in great condition and the pistes are now less busy as Half term has finished!!!!

skivillaroger, I agree that the pistes are in better condition now that we have had a little more fresh snow, down to villaroger was very good today. But I disagree about the crowds. This week there are many French, both local and from other areas around plus dutch and germans and I found the pistes and lifts very busy again today now that the good weather had come back for the day.
Today we were all over the Les Arcs resorts both on and off piste. Started a little late due to large numbers on the funi coming up from the valley. First up and over to Arc 2000 bowl by a little skied route that still had a short stretch of untracked powder to ski. Then over and down to Villaroger in more good powder and only one other track most of the way. The small snowfall had made a nice layer on top of the hard base which made for an interesting descent.
Then down to Arc 1600 by another quiet route and a quick lunch. Then up to the top of the Transarc and down to Nancoix, more fresh tracks but a little harder skiing with soft snow on a crusty base. Still good fun if you could be light on your feet. Finally back through the whole resort to Arc 1950 from Peisey and beers at George's wine bar in Arc 1950 after a full days skiing. Pistes were busy all the way home but still in good condition.

I know, very boring!!! Yet another day in the powder. Went over to the Bellecote and found few tracks which gave us another great descent of about 2200m on untracked powder. What can I say, this season just keeps on going. And now they say it might snow again tonight or tomorrow. It really is a hard life!!!!
I will try and post some more pics tomorrow evening on my facebook page for those that want to see what we have been doing in the last few days.
