rob@rar, Great after last week!!!
A nice sunny day in the main and although there was a positively chilly wind on the glacier it was worth it for the perfect snow. Just amazing on the piste. So the Dome was easy and then I took the older group onto the bottom of the Echines des chevres and although the snow was totally tracked out it was still tracked out powder and thus good training for the pupes!
Later with the hot shot boys we skied the Snowheads wall in DEEP powder (bit of a hassle to get to it but got there via the lines of pisten bully tracks in the photo. 2nd photo is of the boys resting after it with the wall in the background. We then went up again and came down the length of the steep part of the Echines and here's a photo looking down this onto the Signal - The Echines is sooooo enormous. Finished up by pistes to Cretes which were all in super condition, and then the top part of Posettes which was OK, onto the bottom of Valentin which was disgusting! Heavy wet lumps of stuff masquerading as snow - just like the stuff I was skiing last week - yuch! Anyway it just goes to show how much better conditions stay on the off piste with fewer people skiing on it.

Just for good measure there's a pic of the Petit Viking nursery slope at about 16.45 showing that although it was warm in the village, there still isn't a problem down here.

easiski,
Not logged in for a few days; nice to have your reports and pictures back, especially with the good news of new snow.
This may seem like a wierd question, but what is TV reception like in LDA?
Is it possible with a standard arial

Well it keeps going in and out. I've put the chains on the Scorpio and and currently re-charging the battery. Why do they always go flat at the most inconvenient moment? It's been snowing on and off and also some sun and temps quite variable too. At one point when we were skiing it was sunny AND snowing!
The on piste snow was lovely but cutting up into bumps and the Rachas seemed good powder. All the off piste was tracked today and there had been a lot of avalanches, but the lower slopes and the unprotected ones had been severely got at by the wind. Here's a pic looking up towards Rachas and the red part of the Thuit from part way down the blue part, and also one of the trees on the Posettes where I thought I would come down ...... very deep and heavy - oops! However I was on my own so it was fun anyway. Not like yesterday though.

It's been snowing and very cold all day. Temps are way, way down and although the snow wasn't very heavy it was persistent. Heavier at the C retes than in the village. The snow is fab and a bigger dump is due tonight. If only it would warm up a bit! (blue smilie)
Pix today, one from the entrance to the Patache resto at the Cretes, and one of the icicles on the tree outside my house. Took this just now, and they were there this morning so it just shows how bl**dy cold it is!.

Well, it started fab but the sky clouded over later int he day and it became very flat light in the afternoon. The snow is good everywhere I've been and no ice, although the Valentin was very hard this pm. I've been down Bellecombe (fab), combe du Thuit red (a bit firm at the very top but then OK), combe du Thuit blue (good all the way) and Grand Couloir today. GC was a bit tough with biggish bumps in very little viz, but the snow was good. The Chemin des Demoiselles was closed today, but is still more or less skiable. The second leg is sort of broken but you can get through though if you're careful. Off now to do certs for the kids and day off tomorrow - hoooorrrrrraaaaaayyyyyy. First one since 2 weeks before Wengen. Pic looking up from the top of the Bellecombe chair. There's a couple of similar ones earlier in the thread, so if anyone can be bothered you can look back to compare the amount of snow around.

We did most reds. Diable and Le Y.
Just on way back home, stopping off for a night on the way.
Sorry that the holiday seemed to disapear so quickly.
We had a great time, mixture of weather, snow was excellent especially Sunday morning down edge of diable up to knees.

Hi Charlotte
Looking forward to meeting up with you on Wednesday for my lesson.
I have been reading the threads, the conditions seem ideal! Do you know what is forecast for the rest of the week?
I think we get in to the resort around late afternoon, we may even be in time for the boys to have a quick trip up top and do the last run down.
Shall I give you a ring tomorrow evening so that we can arrange where to meet on Wednesday?

Bridgit Jones, Sounds good!
It's been tipping it down with snow all day today. Higher up (Grand Creux and Gours) there was at least 15cms of fresh and it's even been snowing int he village. It hasn't been all that cold though and is sort of sleeting here at the chalet, but that is a bit lower than the main drag. Valentin was better than yesterday, but still not nice - great piles of soggy stuff and hard patches in between. In fact the sog was so soggy that the hard patches were a relief! Nursery slopes perfect for nervous beginners though with rather sticky fresh to slow them down. Viz higher up was not brill, but the distance was OK, just the very flat light which was a problem. The forecast seems to be for snow showers with sunny intervals, which would be nice. If we could see something we could ski more of the off piste, but I dont like taking peeps off when the viz is poor.
Pic of my beginners traversing the top of the Petit Viking nursery slope.

Thanks Charlotte, I'm actually getting excited now... though it could actually be nerves masquerading as excitement....!!
Can you remind me the names of the easiest blue runs down from the top of Jandri 2 ( I may have the totally wrong name here..) basically the run from the top of the bottom of the glacier (if you know what I mean) to the bottom (of Cretes?) but before the horrible green run back to the village.
From memory, if I ski from the top (as above mentioned) down a bit, then veer to the right hand side, there is a run to the left beginning with 'M' (I think) which meets up with the main runs again.. then down a wide open blue which again splits and I think I veer off to the right there.. sorry to be so vague.. If you have no idea what I mean, don't worry, I will check it out on the piste map tomorrow. I thought I might have a go (weather and time permitting) tomorrow afternoon.
Speak tomorrow eve anyway.
As usual I have shedloads to do before we hit the road at around 5.15am tomorrow.. why oh why do I always leave everything until the last minute.... I have just been to the Post Office to get Euros and the rate is enough to make me cry......!!!
