rob@rar, Great after last week!!!

A nice sunny day in the main and although there was a positively chilly wind on the glacier it was worth it for the perfect snow. Just amazing on the piste. So the Dome was easy and then I took the older group onto the bottom of the Echines des chevres and although the snow was totally tracked out it was still tracked out powder and thus good training for the pupes!

Later with the hot shot boys we skied the Snowheads wall in DEEP powder (bit of a hassle to get to it but got there via the lines of pisten bully tracks in the photo. 2nd photo is of the boys resting after it with the wall in the background. We then went up again and came down the length of the steep part of the Echines and here's a photo looking down this onto the Signal - The Echines is sooooo enormous. Finished up by pistes to Cretes which were all in super condition, and then the top part of Posettes which was OK, onto the bottom of Valentin which was disgusting! Heavy wet lumps of stuff masquerading as snow - just like the stuff I was skiing last week - yuch! Anyway it just goes to show how much better conditions stay on the off piste with fewer people skiing on it. Very Happy Very Happy

Just for good measure there's a pic of the Petit Viking nursery slope at about 16.45 showing that although it was warm in the village, there still isn't a problem down here.

Llew, I think there's a relay at the top of the red eggs. All the terrestrial TV is just with normal arials, but of course it's Secam and not PAL so brit TV doesn't work unless it's switchable. (I have Sky you see).

Today started out fab. Very sunny and not all that cold until you got to the Toura area and we did toura and goulet to Cretes in the am with fab snow and fab views - too hot by Cretes so I gave my 2nd jacket to the loo lady to look after. Did the 2nd lesson on cretes with good firm snow all over and then the fog started shifting around which was a bit miz. I took the boys down Petit Diable (good firm snow) and then up to do the hidden valley which was very variable but lovely packed powder in the valley itself. The bumps have shrunk which is a blessing. Afterwards we made the mistake of skiing down Diable and it was white out all down the Petit Diable. Couldn't see the piste markers or anything and I got quite woozy. 2 sundry peeps joined the back of us as they were obviously concerned about finding their way down. Below the Petit we could see again but the Diable was very hard all the way. Not a problem for us but deffo for many of the snowbladers! Shocked Laughing Laughing

the temp has dropped considerably so the colder weather promised seems to be arriving, so hopefully the further snow will also arrive as promised on Fri/Sat/Sun. I wouldn't mind if it didn't on Fri as I have the peeps and the time to go to LG then, but it's not worth it if you can't see, and they're talking about 1/2 metre! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Pic from the Serre Palas looking over and down to the Toura and beyond.

It was a lovely sunny day all day today, and the snow was fine but there was a really nasty biting NE wind. So strong that we could only go one way on the Cretes! Shocked We came down during the lunchtime lesson, and got stuck in the white eggs for about 20 mins which wasn't the nicest thing in the world. Later I got snowblades (well - mini skis) on the boys and we played with spins and various dodgy ski games in the afternoon. It did drop a bit, and I heard that it was OK at the top so long as you didnt hang around at the top of the Jandri Express. 2 friends had an excellent day finding fab blown powder on the pistes and absolutely no-one. We're hoping for the big snow starting tonight. I'm sorry I didn't take a photo today (too cold to get the camera out and take off my gloves). Sad

It's been tipping it down all day here and the wind (which was OK in the morning) has got steadily stronger and is now really blasting. It's still snowing like crazy though, but is now almost horizontal! rolling eyes

I tried to take pix on the mountain but the camera was too cold, however I did manage to take one on the way home of the snow on the cars. snowHead Bear in mind the Scorpio was clear of snow at 11.30 this morning and I took the pic at about 17.00. My neighbour's car and the van had not been touched and you can really see how much snow has fallen.

Les Cretes had very bad visibility at lunchtime, but we were skiing about 15cms of fresh on the piste and off piste it was much more than that. The wind started to get bad in the afternoon, but they did, in the end, open the face runs so we started off down the Demoiselles (open again) and then dropped into Les Posettes where we skied very deep snow on all 3 sections. Viz was miz, but the snow made up for it. We went back up on the Village chair and then skied Grande Pente through the trees which was huge fun. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy We could still feel (but not see) the hard bumps under everything, so hopefully if it does keep up for several days as promised those will disappear too. Very Happy

Well it keeps going in and out. I've put the chains on the Scorpio and and currently re-charging the battery. Why do they always go flat at the most inconvenient moment? rolling eyes It's been snowing on and off and also some sun and temps quite variable too. At one point when we were skiing it was sunny AND snowing! snowHead

The on piste snow was lovely but cutting up into bumps and the Rachas seemed good powder. All the off piste was tracked today and there had been a lot of avalanches, but the lower slopes and the unprotected ones had been severely got at by the wind. Here's a pic looking up towards Rachas and the red part of the Thuit from part way down the blue part, and also one of the trees on the Posettes where I thought I would come down ...... very deep and heavy - oops! However I was on my own so it was fun anyway. Not like yesterday though.

It was sunny and cold this morning, but turned to cloudy, slightly snowy and cold around lunchtime. The snow is great on piste but with bad viz and so much or it the piste machines can't keep up, there were lots of lurking bumps that you couldn't see. Most peeps were skiing lower down, and as it was easter it was pretty crowded. Hopefully it'll quieten down after the weekend.

A few more cms of snow due tonight according to the pisteurs, and another 20cms or so tomorrow. Shocked

No photo today I'm afraid (too busy), but hopefully tomorrow. Very Happy

rob@rar, It never hurts does it? Shame bout the wind on Fri pm, but if we get another 20cms it should be OK. Off piste not looking too good on the face today, but I didn't ski down since it was 17.20, white out and I was freezing - the eggs were a much pleasanter option! Laughing Laughing

It's been snowing and very cold all day. Temps are way, way down and although the snow wasn't very heavy it was persistent. Heavier at the C retes than in the village. The snow is fab and a bigger dump is due tonight. Very Happy If only it would warm up a bit! Blue (blue smilie)

BOREDINWORK, Glad you enjoyed it. Very Happy

It was a totally fabulous day today. Blue skies and sun with brilliant fluffy powder on most higher slopes. The wind had been at it a bit, but not enough to ruin it. Very Happy Very Happy Even in the village it was nice first thing (although dead heavy by late afternoon). It is still cold though, but obviously much more pleasant than yesterday. Very Happy Sadly I didn't have any hot shots to lure me onto the steep and deep, but my middle group aren't bad and we did get a little of the cut up stuff at midday. Needless to say more or less every slope in the whole resort was totally tracked out by early afternoon. I came down via the Grande Pente about 17.00, and although I could find enough fresh to do my turns in the last third of it really made it not worthwhile - very heavy, churned up and with rocks poking out. Sad Still - had to be done. Little Angel

Photos are of looking up towards Toura/Lac Noir from the Gours/goulet du Grand Nord split; a snowboarder setting off down the face, taken from the Petit Cretes chairlift, and an arty one of the late afternoon sun shining on the tree outside the house. Very Happy

It was another really nice day today. It started very sunny and did actually cloud over in mid-afternoon. It looks as though it might snow a bit tonight, but hopefully tomorrow will be nice again. They say ( rolling eyes ) the temps will rise towards the weekend, which wouldn't be a bad thing IMO. I did manage to find some very light but tracked powder to the side of the red part of the Thuit which was great, about knee deep. My friend Max skied St Christophe today and said it was epic with over the knee champagne powder and no other tracks. He did say he was carefull about his route and stayed on the crest and didn't stop on the top section which does avalanche fairly frequently. He said the best 50 turns of the season. Very Happy

the on piste snow is ab fab now, and could not really be bettered. The Demoiselles is open again, although thin on the second leg, and the bottom of the Valentin was really nice in the late afternoon Shocked Shocked Shocked Firm and not many bumps and no ice - bl**dy hell - what's happening?????? Cool

Pix are from the Voute chairlift. first looking up the blue then red Thuit (you can just make out the path that divides them) and thence to Rachas. The other is of some peeps playing on the Voute itself just under the chairlift.

We had a staggeringly brilliant day today. It wasn't quite as cold, there wasn't any wind to speak of, and although there was mist rolling in an out it never got really bad for long. If you just waited the viz improved.

First thing we skied almost 10 cms (1 finger) of light powder on the pistes at Grand Creux and then Les Gours - wonderful Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Then off to the glacier with the better kids. We skied those tramlines I photographed a little while ago in powder to about top of boot height - great short radius. There were some drifts, but on the whole really excellent. This took us onto the wall - hardly anyone had bothered as it was a hassle getting there. Again powder about the same amount right in the middle. A bit of a walk out to the lift and up again and then down the Echines near to the Dome run. Although there were a good few tracks we had no trouble finding bags of fresh to turn in. this was a bit deeper, probably approaching knee hight on the kids ( 3x 11 and 1 x 13 years). Fantastic. Later I took my brilliant beginners onto 'Moonland' and they loved that too ...... freshies all day. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy The better kids were demanding homework that required more off piste at the end of their lesson! Good, more converts.

It's supposed to be nice tomorrow - I hope so. It's always horrid if the last day of peoples' holiday is bad weather.

Pix are looking over from the top of Grand Creux (yes - it is a piste) and looking up at Chalance - absolutely loaded.

Well, it started fab but the sky clouded over later int he day and it became very flat light in the afternoon. The snow is good everywhere I've been and no ice, although the Valentin was very hard this pm. I've been down Bellecombe (fab), combe du Thuit red (a bit firm at the very top but then OK), combe du Thuit blue (good all the way) and Grand Couloir today. GC was a bit tough with biggish bumps in very little viz, but the snow was good. The Chemin des Demoiselles was closed today, but is still more or less skiable. The second leg is sort of broken but you can get through though if you're careful. Off now to do certs for the kids and day off tomorrow - hoooorrrrrraaaaaayyyyyy. First one since 2 weeks before Wengen. Very Happy Very Happy Pic looking up from the top of the Bellecombe chair. There's a couple of similar ones earlier in the thread, so if anyone can be bothered you can look back to compare the amount of snow around.

Sorry not to have reported yesterday, but I didn't have any time! It was a pleasant day but with a lot of wind. Cretes was in good condition as were the nursery slopes in the afternoon, but the Valentin was vile. Very hard with icy patches and small stashes of soft stuff. Too many peeps on it who shouldn't have been there in spite of serious efforts by the pisteurs. No change then rolling eyes . aw one skier slide all the way down.

It's foggy and has snowed a bit in the night, but it's too soon to tell what it might be like higher up. I could just be stuck in the venosc temperature conversion. Confused

Hi Charlotte

Looking forward to meeting up with you on Wednesday for my lesson.

I have been reading the threads, the conditions seem ideal! Do you know what is forecast for the rest of the week?

I think we get in to the resort around late afternoon, we may even be in time for the boys to have a quick trip up top and do the last run down.

Shall I give you a ring tomorrow evening so that we can arrange where to meet on Wednesday? Very Happy

Bridgit Jones, Sounds good!

It's been tipping it down with snow all day today. Higher up (Grand Creux and Gours) there was at least 15cms of fresh and it's even been snowing int he village. It hasn't been all that cold though and is sort of sleeting here at the chalet, but that is a bit lower than the main drag. Valentin was better than yesterday, but still not nice - great piles of soggy stuff and hard patches in between. In fact the sog was so soggy that the hard patches were a relief! Nursery slopes perfect for nervous beginners though with rather sticky fresh to slow them down. Viz higher up was not brill, but the distance was OK, just the very flat light which was a problem. The forecast seems to be for snow showers with sunny intervals, which would be nice. If we could see something we could ski more of the off piste, but I dont like taking peeps off when the viz is poor.

Pic of my beginners traversing the top of the Petit Viking nursery slope. Very Happy Very Happy

Thanks Charlotte, I'm actually getting excited now... though it could actually be nerves masquerading as excitement....!!

Can you remind me the names of the easiest blue runs down from the top of Jandri 2 ( I may have the totally wrong name here..) basically the run from the top of the bottom of the glacier (if you know what I mean) to the bottom (of Cretes?) but before the horrible green run back to the village.

From memory, if I ski from the top (as above mentioned) down a bit, then veer to the right hand side, there is a run to the left beginning with 'M' (I think) which meets up with the main runs again.. then down a wide open blue which again splits and I think I veer off to the right there.. sorry to be so vague.. If you have no idea what I mean, don't worry, I will check it out on the piste map tomorrow. I thought I might have a go (weather and time permitting) tomorrow afternoon.

Speak tomorrow eve anyway.

As usual I have shedloads to do before we hit the road at around 5.15am tomorrow.. why oh why do I always leave everything until the last minute.... I have just been to the Post Office to get Euros and the rate is enough to make me cry......!!! Crying or Very sad
