I asked this question of our hotel in Solden when i was there a few weeks ago and they hadn't had any children of that age as they had all cancelled finding the Ninja pass too difficult and worries about what would happen if any tests were positive. There were a few kids about in the resort but all looked far younger than 12.

Thanks Scarlet you might know this too: for us tourists (!) is it worth downloading the GreenPass app, or is the NHS one adequate? Ta |
Green pass app gives 1-touch access whereas my nhs one needs sign in every time. Otherwise either will do.
I've found virtually every shop and cafe/bar/restaurant will ask for it. |
We have all uploaded to Apple wallet and that has been fine for everything from airport check to ticket office to bars and restaurants both in town on on slopes
My son lost his phone just before coming out so he has a paper copy and that has been accepted with no questions asked

@SheffMark, thanks. Having moved the holiday already we've decided to chance it! We are also self catering which may help. The rigorous testing seems extreme given us (albeit boosted) and the 11 year old requires none.

Just out of curiosity... anyone with very recent experience of getting in with 2 doses and recovery without a PCR, using the NHS app? The Austria.info site is still saying that recovery documentation has to have the date of recovery on it, which the NHS QR pass doesn't (only the expiry date of the pass itself which is a month after you obtain it).
Whist I suspect the actual recovery date is encoded into the QR itself, just curious if anyone is getting challenged on when their recovery actually happened because it's not written in plain text?

@Hayls, Do you or anyone know if a 14 year old has 2 vaccines they can definitely avoid the Ninja pass?
From what I’ve gathered on here, he needs a PCR to get in, but then once in it is 2G, so will that cover the ski pass too without the need for Ninja pass? Leave Saturday and really hoping this is the case.

@Gilly28, yes they can avoid it. Just PCR. We are tempted to try a walk in at 'post 10 weeks' jab 1 just before we go to see if they will vaccinate early.

@Hayls, @Gilly28, just reading this thread and confused - my 12 year old with 1 vacc just recovered from CV but via LFT as PCR no longer needed. So he can't get a 2nd dose for 12 weeks and can't get proof of infection without PCR - so I am not sure what we can do. Any advice?

You could get your Doctor to complete recovery cert for him. This along with 1 vaccine and a PCR test before you go should cover you i think. https://www.ris.bka.gv.at/Dokumente/Bundesnormen/NOR40240105/II_562_2021_Anlage_B.pdf

@prthomas, We are in Scotland so recovery shows on pass (although mines didn’t) and our kids can get the app. My son at 14 has his, showing his two vaccines, he’s never had Covid though.
@Hayls, We got our son vaccinated at 8 weeks as we booked when they said between 8&12 weeks. They then changed it, however my husband took him in and told them the circumstances and they agreed to do it. He then did have a stumbling block when he took son to actually get it later that day. Eventually they gave it is when husband said if he can’t go he’ll have to stay with my sister who’s daughter is vulnerable (which is true) so they said oh we can use that as the reason!

At risk of triggering another appearance of the groundhog, please can I canvass some collective opinion / knowledge?
Travelling to Austria via Munich with 2 kids in tow - is this interpretation correct?
- 14yo (double jabbed), doesn't require any tests to travel but requires a 72hrs PCR to get into Austria (but unlikely to be checked anyway!). I know that Ninja Pass is not needed due to the 2 jabs
- 11yo (obviously no jabs), Austria says no need for anything as travelling with vaccinated parents. However, assume the German rules apply due to us arriving there so a test is required (that seems to be how I interpret what's on the Lufthansa website but rather unhelpfully it mentions "international travel FROM (rather than to) Germany". From what I can tell the (cheaper) antigen (lateral flow) tests are accepted, but is that true of test at home ones (i.e. the cheapest)?
Thanks

That's how I would interpret it too. Has the 14 yr old had covid and recovered? That is my situation (15 yr old) so hoping to avoid the PCR for entry to Austria by having proof of recovery. However, I am waiting for the digital covid pass 12-15 to go live to see if it includes recovered status (hoping somebody on here can confirm - believe it goes online on Feb 3rd in England - not sure about Wales).

The existence of a QR code for recovery shows that you are deemed to have recovered. It does not need a recovery date - it is assumed that you recovered 10 days after a positive test. The date of the positive test is shown, plus a Date Valid From and a Date Valid To - all of this is visible in the NHS app below the QR code.
My entry via Salzburg 2.5 weeks ago took less than 20 seconds - they scanned the "boosted" QR code on a mobile device, it came up green, and they waved me through. At that point, I was 15 days after the positive test, and had a negative PCR result. I could have used the "recovered" code instead, and it would have taken no longer.

Thanks - no, the 14yo has not had COVID. All I have is the COVID pass letter from the NHS (which is dead easy to scan into the Austrian Green Pass app to help us when we're there) to prove 2 jabs and that's it. I think the answer is I need 1 PCR test for the eldest, and 1 LFT for the youngest (and hoping neither gets COVID at school before testing day!!)

Aha... so you are of course right, if you go into the app, there is that level of detail. Where I was looking however was at the wallet version (blue background) pass, which only shows date of birth and pass expiry date.
Anyway, nice to know I can find it if it's of any interest to anyone at the border!

No, don't panic, you don't need it if you have the NHS app already. However, it is apparently faster to access than the NHS app so you might want it for that reason, but equally you can load the QR codes directly into your phone wallet or equivalent. Easier to sort out whichever option you want to use before you travel though.

Just to help about NHS app. You do NOT need to open it every time. Before you leave UK open the app, then find your covid pass. There is an option to download as a pdf. Do it! Then go to the documents area on your phone and find the pdf. Click it and somewhere you'll find an option to add it to your home screen. Do it! Then every time you open your phone it will be there for you. 1 click and it is open. No need to reopen NHS app, as it is valid for 1 month. No WiFi or roaming access required it is already there on your phone.

The NHS app, perhaps surprisingly, makes it very easy indeed - add to wallet is one of the menu options when you go in to generate your covid travel pass! Just hit the button for each dose/recovery record and each will be added (grouped together) to your wallet...
Now if only this site made it easy to post a screenshot from my phone, I could show you exactly what I mean! Perhaps one of our other members could take a break from their unhealthy obsession with large American rodents and do the honours here...

Double check this . I could be wrong but I believe that non vaccinated over 6 year olds need an LFT within 48 hours of landing, even if just transitting

Mandatory testing or proof of immunity from COVID-19
As of 23 December 2021, every person over the age of six is obliged to carry proof of their COVID‑19 status when entering Germany. Persons over the age of six must therefore have a negative test result or proof of recovery or vaccination when entering Germany. As a rule, COVID‑19 test results (antigen or PCR tests) must not be more than 48 hours old at the time of the (planned) entry. However, if entering Germany with a carrier (e.g. an airline), PCR tests may be taken a maximum of 48 hours before the (scheduled) start of the journey (e.g. departure time). But antigen tests must not be taken more than 48 hours before the (scheduled) time of arrival in Germany even if travellers are being transported by a carrier.
Travellers who are only transferring at an airport in Germany are also required to present proof of their COVID‑19 status. This applies both to non-Schengen transit from or to third countries outside the EU and to transit from or to Schengen states.
|
|
|
|
|

@dedders, this has been posted here a few times. There are regulations with regard to transit (the sentence above refers to changing planes not traveling onwards by road) , which have also been posted above, which say that transit is allowed as long as you take the shortest route even if you dont have a test etc. I agree that it makes life easier at check in if you do have a test much the same as the entry form is not necessary but avoids issues with the airlines.

I am changing planes and l believe we need to test. @dedders, given that lft tests are pretty easy & cheap and that few individuals are likely to be affected (those between 6 & 16 who are not fully vaccinated or recovered) it seems worth doing whatever the legal niceties.

Thanks, yes going to do that. It's a trip into London but hey ho. The worry is the return as we don't want to get caught isolated. It seems then that people transfering at a terminal need more testing than someone entering Germany to drive on to Austria. I thought harvey13 was changing planes like us, so I believed there was a risk they wouldn't be boarded from the UK.

@russ_e, leaving aside the will it/won't it happen question, if you're booking flights separately, then the airline won't care about your wider holiday plans, their job is just to get you there and back. So if Lufty weren't a good bet for refunds last time, you might be better off hedging with someone like BA, where you know that at the very least, you can cancel to get a voucher back, right up to the last minute.
I say that of course without having checked their fares!
|
|
|
|
|
|
No issues with rearranging Lufthansa flights before Christmas at short notice. Refund at that point would have been of taxes only due to the fare conditions. Fortunately for us, the rearranged flights booked randomly for March were then changed by them to two legs and 3 hours later, which triggered the possibility of a full refund, which we took.
