And again! Just one or 2 pistes getting a bit polished (particularly on the Ladies downhill course OK/Orange). As for the snow at the weekend it looks like its going to the south of us by some distance - there may be a bit on Sat night - however interpretations vary (especially on some of the more automated sites) so we will see.
For Saturday transfers the Local Authority is forecasting 37 000 and 32 000 vehicles going up and down the mountain respectively between Albertville and Moutiers - leave early (Friday night and get a hotel?) or ski till you drop and then go. Bonne Chance!

Hi, i am going to be in Tignes 2-9 March. I am looking to join an off-piste group as my trip companions aren't really into it (yet). I sent en email to Evolution2, anybody have any other suggestions? I am also keen to skin up some hills.

Groundhog day! The forecast was clouds to appear this afternoon but its still as blue as a blue thing feeling blue. As I type the last few people are heading down the slope before facing the inevitable jams tomorrow. But what a week they have had - just perfect for a half term week.
Next week looks more cloudy with some snow - so it won't be an epic bluebird week but it would be nice to have an off piste top up.
For tomorrows fliers - the UK and French (+GVA) airports have similar forecasts with light showers of snow featuring at all of them (plus the threat of heavier snow at Leeds) throughout the day. Hopefully the airports should remain open - however if one of the showers parks itself in the wrong place there could be the odd delay for snow clearance/aircraft deicing. For those doing onward journeys in cars make sure your snow chains are somewhere near the top of the pile as its going to be cold up the mountains so any showers that do fall may settle on the road especially after the sun has gone down..
Fly safe; drive safe and on the right!

Blue skies this morning but as soon as we got off the Palafour you could see the clouds on their way. T'was also surprisingly chilly (-12 at the top of Tommeuses at lunchtime) with a cheeky breeze just to add to the relative discomfort. Discomfort soon forgotten within the confines of La Rosée Blanche! Light gradually went after lunch - so time for the Rugby.
It has now just started snowing lightly - and should snow lightly all day tomorrow - forecasts for the amount vary so throw a dice and multiply by 3 and you'll have as much idea as anybody.
If you flying on Sunday - similar to today with snow showers forecast across most of the UK airports with the same in France. However, there is a 30% chance of heavier snow showers at GVA and GNB which could cause some disruption for runway clearance and aircraft de-icing. Once on the road there should be few jams - unlike today!
Time to head for L'Embuscade for the match.

Definitely a mixed bag today - about 5cm arrived overnight in Le Lac - great for freshening the pistes but not a lot of use hors piste. Cloudy with a few flocons this morning - so headed to Brev where there was enough light to see the definition of the snow. Brev must have had a cloud park over it during the night as there was appreciably more snow than Lac or La Daille - which was nice Light came and went through the day - its quite bright now but we are expecting some more light snow tonight and tomorrow.
Further to the stand for the X Games (20-22 Mar) the far end of the Grande Motte car park now resembles a building site with piles of barriers and a whole deal of other paraphernalia whose function is not yet apparent being shipped in. More updates on that and piste closures etc as we get closer to the big event.
Hope everyone got to the airport/ferry terminal/tunnel on time and that the memories are of an epic week's skiing.

You went the wrong way lots of good viz above 2250m but very cold for the time of year.
The snow on piste is just great due to the low temperatures and constant snowshowers. The offpiste looks like it is going to get a top up this week.
The resort was much busier today, but this is only to be expected as half of France is on holiday.

When in resort for the last x games there were no piste closures as far as I remember. The bottom end of Lanches was squeezed very tight and it got very mogully at the pinch point

A bright and sunny morning again - some much for the promised snow! It was also still chilly for the time of year - meaning that the pistes are still in excellent nick - with nice grippy snow all the way into the Brev bubble. Through the morning 'le Nuvole' gradually crept in from across the border with Italy - but it was still bright in Tignes throughout the afternoon. Val didn't look as bright but daren't go over there as nobody in La Daille had had a bath (Joking aside can't have been nice to have no heating or hot water since Sunday lunchtime - over 3000 holiday makers in the large architecturally odd apartment blocks were 'sans chaleur' because the heating oil had gone waxy).
The forecast is for some snow tonight coming from the east - not convinced myself but we live in hope......
Because of the increased size of the X Games the Mairie have just announced that the bottom of Double M will be closed and diverted onto the Bollin piste, likewise the bottom of Carline; where we will have to use the lower part of the Stade de Lognan.
And Finally - the closure of the road over the Dam at night has now been cancelled - they are using traffic lights to control the flow of traffic whilst the works continue.

Thanks the info chocksaway. When will these piste closures take effect, is it just during the games or before?

Minion1980, the decree from the Mairie says from 1 Mar - we will see - but they do have to build the slopestyle course at the bottom of Double M.
Bright blue skies again - no sign of the snow that was supposed to arrive.

Ditto. Very cold up top, -40 (windchill) at night according to instructor. Lovely sunshine, blue skies, quite warm out of the wind and indeed, in Lavachet (where we're staying), the roads are back to tarmac as the snow has melted. Don't fret though, still tons of snow on the slopes. Hoping for fresh snow, but happy to take another sunny day.

Thanks for the info chocksaway, just hoping they don't close lifts too between the 9th and 16th, I had a check of the webcam yesterday and saw some big queues at the Fresse lift. There are 2 parts of France on holiday this week mind.

Minion1980, There are a few big queues - notably out of the villages between 0900 and 0930 and just after lunch - but once you are out of the villages not a lot of queuing. By the time you arrive there will only be Zone C on hol (A&B at the mo) so hopefully it will be bit quieter. Forecasts still topsy turvy - may be a little snow tomorrow night (but I'll not be putting the house on it!). The Tea Club forecast for today was overcast and 4cm of snow. As Wobbler describes - we had completely the opposite.

Morning bright blue skies and large orange thing in ski. So piste report remains the same. However, it has now clouded over and forecasts vary as to whether or how much white stuff may fall (bit like predicting the result of the Eastleigh by election - however we do have more than enough Monster Raving Loonies on the piste). Fingers crossed!

Sorry - due to tenuous internet links and a couple of Mr T's Blacksheep I completely forgot to post the airport forecasts for today - hope it was OK; for tomorrow GVa and Chambery should be OK - there is a chance of freezing fog at Grenoble and Lyon until 1000 hrs which could result in delays for early flights. Hope there is some powder left when I return!

Really horrible question but it needs to be asked - where can I buy cigarettes in Val Claret? I usually go to Italy and its a bit of PITA buying them there as only a few select shops sell them so it would be handy to know where I can get them in Tignes before I go. Thanks.

They're so expensive here though, so much so that I smoke rolling tobacco. However trying to roll cigarettes on the hill is no fun so I prefer to smoke straights while I'm away. Just to make clear I never throw my butts on the mountain (I hate people doing that), I only ever smoke around mountain restaurants or top of lifts, basically where there is a bin to dispose of the butt end.

Helloooo again - back in resort and it would appear that spring had sprung whilst I was back in Blighty (+12.5 in Bourg at 1830 last night). However today started with average(ish) light and gradually got worse as the southerly winds blew the clouds in from Italy. Up high the winds were quite strong which meant some of the higher lifts were shut - which meant bigger queues lower down. The winds are warm (Foehn and his mate Lombarde). We are promised snow tonight close to the Italian border (doesn't say how close!) so I suspect Fornet will be luckier - although the winds may be storm force up high tonight. As I type there are a few flocons going past the window so fingers crossed - but probably not what the 'Full Moon Freeride' team were after (around the Tufs Couloirs at 2030).

chocksaway - yes the main story was perhaps the wind but I think the death in the avalanche on the Little Lavachet wall down to the Bois de la Laye of two people was perhaps bigger news. Very sad. PGHM, 10 pisteurs etc all involved. ABS airbags inflated but reports were that one was perhaps pushed into the river down there by up to 8m of snow depth that was 80-100m wide and that person may have drowned.... reports still coming out so not sure exact details. Very sad.
