Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

The old owner (Gunnar) was lucky to have Mario come along (at the right time) and buy the KK from him. They have tried to keep
the same kind of atmosphere (modern music) young skibum atmosphere but modenised the joint. Gunnar still come in once a week.

Gunnar was not the original owner , A Rhodesian owned the building before him.

The Party is definitely not over , in fact MM is giving the Moose a good run for its money due to much lower prices & MM being very approachable especially with the the young kids in ski school at lunch time.

@stanton, I like the new KK and it help that the MW is bloody terrible. Unless, that is, your idea of good apres is standing in Oxford Street tube rush hour crowds surrounded by oafish dutch having beer poured down the back of your neck.

Arriving there on Sunday. Thanks for update. My track record there is stellar enough that I left California's El Nino. Crossing all fingers ND toes my luck continues, but can't say I'm particularly optimistic about my 115 underfoot skis getting too much use next week... Oh well. The Apres ski never disappoints.

FWIW, it looks like a HP settling in over the West Coast after the weekend, so you won't be missing much in Cali. Depending on when you are returning, early February could be really good on the USA West Coast and what not. Prost!

Do we take it there is enough coverage offpiste to survive a heatwave this week - contemplating a bandit trip next weekend as it was only one that worked for one of us?

Just back from Stuben - awesome fantastic powder week everywhere .........St Anton, Lech, Zurs, Stuben etc.... no crowds
3-4 great days out of 6 and few challenging but good snow poor visibility days . Last Friday was one of the best ski days ever - with yet another sunny superb lunch at the Hopiz Alms in St Christoph
Will the off piste survive next weeks heat wave ? - unlikely AS freezing level ludicrously high for time of year but provided no heavy rain piste should be ok'ish as notwithstanding the natural snow the snow cannons were annoyingly busy belching the artificial stuff everywhere all week

Really? As in base taken back to ground as existing snowpack not consolidated enough?

Just back from Lech where the conditions on piste are excellent (far better than St.Anton's Kunstschnee Toofy Grin )
It snowed loads and loads. Plenty of folks off piste enjoying themselves. Apart from Monday at -23 the temperatures were around about -6 and dropping at night a lot lower.

Had a fun day skiing with Markymark29 on Sunday - nice windblown powder in the right places.

To answer your question, higher up in the alpine you should be fine, particularly around Stuben (though Albona was quite wind-scoured). Lower down, things like Maienwasen are already getting quite borderline, and will get very boney if it gets as warm as the radio mentioned today, but higher up there's a reasonable base.

Obviously you're not going to get blower pow, but there should be nice spring snow and corn about at altitude. Considerably more snow as you go further west to St Christoph and Stuben.

Another warm day in lech. Surprised by the quality of piste. I have done freeze thaw around easter in other resorts and hated it on my board each morning. Today was another good day cruising and lunching on the sun terrace.

Anyone have an upcoming weather report for next week? Spending the week in st.Anton with a group of decent skiers that would love to tackle some good off piste, wondering if there is much chance of good enough conditions for it? with this warm weather this week its not looking great, but if the snow comes at the weekend then its gameball hopefully?

@skellyj4, I put together various forecasts here.

http://greghilton.co.uk/snow_forecast/gfsruns.php?select=stuben

From my amateur reading it looks to be above average temp wise until the 4/5th where it *could* drop the temp, but little confidence as the various runs are not in agreement.

Chance of some precipitation around the 29th Jan and 1st/2nd Feb.....could be nothing, could be reasonable...but temps fairly warm IMHO

@kitenski, Looks like getting colder and a decent dump back end of next week and hopefully beyond.

@skellyj4, Depends what type of OP you are looking to do, if its the big-ones then in my view its still not the best (or more importantly safest) conditions, if your after stuff within resort then there's stacks to go at, but its still very sharky on exposed faces like Rendl and Stuben North face. Was there for 4 days over this last weekend and it was absolutely excellent, I was working hard with my wife on her off piste, but if I'd have been looking for big runs (Mariokpopf/ Langen, Mattunjoch, Schindler couloirs, Hinterrendl, Malfontal etc etc) its too early. Out there again in 3 weeks and expecting (hoping) to be able to get into the big-country....it needs snow for this proper OP but things will change hopefully back end of next week, in the meantime if you're happy just diving about in the slack then you'll be fine (safety conditions permitting).
