Still looking like over a metre by the time it stops next week, if not by the end of tomorrow.
Another month an a half before I'm back in the 3v's though

The Pow Puppy Krew just returned from a rabid day in 3V.
Skinned up (in the skiing sense... for once!) the back of the Dou des Lanches. Cliff? Done. Chest high pow? Floaty tips? Correct.
Beardy dawg kneed himself in the face after biffing a 5m kicker. Helico recovery? Blood wagon? Incorrect... a brush down, then back in the POW.
I hear you thinking, 'what about the snow condish?' Easy answer: excellent. Solid fall and coldish means deep fluff. 'What if I am a beginner?' Easy answer: head back to Intersport and hand back your skis. This is no time for games.
Minimal top up and sunny spells tomorrow... The Puppies will be out hunting.
Yours faithfully,
The PPK

P.s. Word up to Bouc Blanc for a rad tartiflette and a smashing glass of Burgundy.

@jimmers, was that one of your puppies that accidentally forgot to look up hill when he jumped onto piste today? Chap with a beard and a bloody forehead.
Powder was awesome today. I'll leave it to jimmers to express the feel of the day.

Beautiful sunny morning. A bit of cloud in the afternoon, but didn't detract from the skiing. The pistes have been bashed so lovely soft snow. Off piste (or rather side country) quite tracked out but still some soft stuff to be found. That'll do me until the End of Season Bash.

@jimmers, ?
Conditions great across 3v, loads of snow the last few days, but a few busy pistes have a very icy base layer that is grim when snow get scraped off, but my advice would be to use the snow just off the edges of those pistes, even if you find it very hard, it's softer than ice if you fall, and to watch where everyone else goes, then go another way. If you avoid the crowds after 12pm there is plenty of great skiing in 3v, and some excellent powder around if that's your thing.
We had one morning of sunshine, I think it was Wednesday. Saw more blood wagons then than rest of the week put together, but it was just folk being too bold on ice I reckon.
Snowed plenty last night and was snowing when we left this morning, so should be a good week for anyone who got there this weekend.
If there is poor light, the skiing round La Tania in the trees was good. The black run from the La Tania lift (I don't remember the name, Floret?) was shut all week, but is really good skiing, give it a whizz.
With the snow put down last week, anyone going in the next couple of weeks will have plenty to go at, and like I said, when it gets scratched off, avoid the crowds.

It stopped snowing for the first time since Wednesday night. Probably had about a meter and a half cumulative. and the power is finally back on. Fantastic conditions over the weekend, and the sun is out now. A lot of care needed off piste

Chairman Pow checking in...
Few days since the last update - we've been filming and even the Pow Puppy Krew can't post when dropping out of a helico at 3200m.
The weekend brought epic powder chowder. Balls deep.
Fresh 1cm blanket dump this morning. Sérieuse thaw and rain this morning though. Delays on the District Line.
Unhappy face.
Pow Puppy Krew, over and out

A perfect day in the Three Vallees today. Wonderful snow on and off piste, sunshine, and calm before the hordes arrive. Anyone coming this week is going to have a good one
Off to Verbier tomorrow for the World Ski Mountaineering Championships

Every piste was epic today. Not a stone or scraped patch to be seen on any piste. Awesome snow conditions at the moment. Chalky and grippy on piste and silky off piste.

Cracking week in 3V last week, almost perfect snow, with one or two white-out days to make things interesting. 2 epic lunches, one in La Soucoupe and one in Coeur Cristal. On Monday we witnessed an avalanche begin (slab break), gain momentum, then take out a poor chap who didn't see it coming (one other spotted it and skied out the way to the side). People were digging him out and the pisteurs weren't in their hut so presumed they were on the case. This was on the exposed slope to the left of the chanrossa lift from creux up to 1650. Be careful out there folks.

It's too hot to ski: it's like April. Creux today was heavy going, but the sunshine is great:

nice photo @Dr Rock
I'm looking to book a friend onto group lessons with ESF and noticed they do a lessons+lift pass deal? I assume that the lift pass is a Val Thorens/Orelle one (not just a pass to the beginners lifts). I emailed ESF but they're being a bit slow to respond so I thought I'd ask on here in case anyone knew the answer. Cheers

Courchevel was pleasant enough today. Chanrossa black had been pisted and was in very good nick. 1650 not too busy as always, very few queues, 1850 busier, particularly after 10:30 once everyone had dragged themselves out of bed...
Still some patches of soft snow to be found not far from the pistes on N facing slopes, sunny sides very much transformed. Feeling more like April, but next week looks like winter is coming back!

Thursday is my travel day next week. After the epic earlier in the season I'm hoping the road clearing teams will be on red alert clearing roads especially for me! Will be keeping an eye on that forecast!

I think it might, we are getting ready for a big dump
Meanwhile, this week has seen great weather and fantastic conditions. Pistes are just showing signs of wear today. Off-piste variable, very good in places. Also, no great crowds if you avoid bottlenecks - havn't had to queue for more than 2 minutes

If it does, where is the best place to get information on potential traffic delays and any closed routes? I know there is the autoroute radio and a few online sources, but I'm thinking the French equivalent of the RAC app?

Too good to resist - just booked for w/c fri 27th...
I have a properly equipped car and have driven many times in and on snow, however, was thinking if there is a blizzard when I arrive, am tempted to leave the car in Albertville or Moutiers and get a taxi up ( on the basis that local taxi drivers are likely to be better drivers than me and don't need to drive up a slope to the parking in the resort. Are there any covered LT parkings in Moutiers or Albertville?

@shawaszk, so you have a properly equipped car and have driven many times on snow, but you're thinking of leaving your car somewhere from 30-50kms from where you want to go? What gives??

and if things are so bad it makes sense to abandon your car the local taxis will be in short supply too. And charging plenty...... Drive up, but time the journey sensibly (ie don't aim to arrive in resort between 10 - 5 during French school holidays) and all should be well.
