lightningdan, if you're hoping to get there any time soon, best keep an eye on the UK weather...

Indeed, and on the basis of http://www.meteociel.fr/modeles/gfse_cartes.php?&ech=216&mode=2 I just booked an extra nights hotel in Manchester so that I can try and get down on the saturday rather waiting till sunday. For thirtyoddquid its worth it for the peace of mind (the place has got a pool so its not all a loss!). Hopefully the route down won't still be crippled by next thursdays snow
Also hopefully we will get to fly on the monday!
Anyone know how reliable that meteociel snow forecast is?

andyrew, at 9 days out? Almost completely unreliable.
(but given the evolution in the semi-reliable timeframe I think that's not a bad move, tbh)

We've done the same, booked Crown Plaza for Sunday 19th to fly Monday 20th and looking at tickets we can book luggage in a day early so can have a lay in till 5.00 am, don't want to risk M62 shutting overnight if it's still well below zero.

We booked a while ago for an overnighter (for the same night but Stansted), decision for booking based on a lie in for a 7am flight rather than getting up at silly o'clock! But with the weather as it's been and might be that weekend, it's probably not a bad move.
Meteo France have forecast snow every day for the back end of next week at L2A (although I know this far off is unreliable).

No, I've gone one step more paranoid and booked the saturday night too! I was already scheduled to stay the sunday night, however, I do have probably 10X the distance to get there, at around 300 miles. So even if it takes 48 hours to get there (an average journey time on the M8 I hear) I'll still be on that damn plane!
BTW, talking of the M8, I was watching the news on France3 lastnight and it looks like Northern France got hit just like Scotland did, the A13 looked just like a Scottish motorway with cars abandoned everywhere and complete gridlock. It was funny hearing Meteo France being harangued for only predicting 2 or 3 cm! Deja Vu! I felt sorry for our guys who'd had to endure being told it only ever happens in Britain just a few days before.

Northern France is no better at snow than southern Britain, and less good than northern Britain. Don't go anywhere near Paris if there's a few centimetres of snow.

We're flying from Gatwick on 20th....it's not so much getting to the airport I'm worried about it's the airport being open.

Hmm. I'm driving down on 22nd, then picking up at Geneva airport on both 23rd and 24th. Stocking up my emergency supplies.

Lat 46 Lon 06 is Geneva.
Lat 51 Lon 00 is London.
Obviously helps if you can flag charts.

It's all too far off. Just need to stay flexible, and keep a watch. I did some Geneva trips in pretty awful (ie fantastically wonderfully snowy) weather last year. It's the M 25/autoroute through France bit which bothers me more. I don't have a lot of time flexibility though I've allowed two days to get down there, which it doesn't usually take.

Is there any chance at all of snow in Les Arcs/La Plagne over the next 8 days?
At the moment I'm packing every fleece I can find!

France3(Alpes) meteo this evening spoke several times of "generous ensoleillement" So pack your sun glasses, (and borrow your neighbours fleeces too). TV8 Mont blanc meteo just been on and they reckon sunny through Thursday (min -9 max -3) and then le retourne de la neige, as Brian said, in the afternoon.
