PJ, they're very good at clearing the roads, but there are no guarantees. If the road is bad then the police will be stopping people on the hill coming out of Taninges to check that you've got either snow tyres of snow chains.

In Les Gets for a relaxing week after doing the Warren Smith academy in Verbier last week. Snow today, which should guarantee lovely conditions for the next few days. Hoping for a bit of sun later in the week.
Was on Fys today but didn't see the pig. Will hope for a sighting later in the week.

Just got back from 4 great days in the PdS.
Saturday (in particular) and Sunday were outstanding - some of my best days skiing ever.
Another dump of snow today - off the slopes at 4 and back home in Cheshire by 11:30
Now the problem is the wait till next season

Lou, I'm sorry to have missed it - I couldn't get connected to the internet to check what time had been arranged! By 3pm I was off the slopes and handing my skis back to the rental shop
Glad you're having a great time - is the pow still fresh and deep?

RobMcQ, The pig was fast asleep by the coffee top hut just above Fys at about 4pm! I am doing a race course with BASS for 3 days this week. Yesterday was interesting as the course ended up more like an off piste powder run after 4 hours of heavy snow!! After a spot of lunch had an interesting ski with Mrs zzz, not a good idea to try to ski powder of a pair of 155 race slalom skis!!! Much hilartity and face plants in some ...very..deep stuff.

The BASS ranks seem to have become increasingly depleted (is that grammatically correct, I wonder) with each passing year... Still, there's a plentiful supply of escapees for training |
That's certainly true for Les Gets, but not for Morzine where the numbers, if anything, are up on last year.

andyph, Jaz is taking the course. It was good fun yesterday as it only started snowing again about 1230!!
How much more snow can we get this year?????
Still snowing this morning and have been woken up by blasting on the mountain and diggers clearing the snow!

More snow this morning and had a hoot skiing some of the fresh stuff between the pistes in the Rosta bowl. Surprised to see so many people skiing the big bowl to the left of the Chamossiere chair as you go up, given the avalanche risk of 4 and the fact you could clearly see 2 small slips at the top of the slope.
While I'm on, a Les Gets / Cherie FM question; what's happened to the English piste report and weather in the mornings?

Ahhh MorzineBeautiful
I head on saturday for a two weeker, last time there was for two and half weeks over christmass at Apex, Nina and Paul and they converted me to sign up.
So here i am coming on saturday with two new people to the group (learners). So if you are all up and around you should look out for the man with the very brown furry hat and real beard. Sorry young man.
Or alternatively a panda, pengium or a gorrila. All good fun.
Can not wait, and hopefully i'm sure there is people (other than Nina and Paul at Apex) on here that i may have met over the last five years.
If so drop me a line.

We'll it's not the PDS but we did leave the kids at school in the PDS, went for a ski in Flaine, had a proper lunch and were back in St Jean d'Aulps for 3.15pm. We'd been lucky and they'd kept the Gers Bowl closed on Wednesday, so the fresh stuff was nicely preserved! We made a short video too: http://www.chaletgeorge.com/

Just returned from Morzine for the first time last night and wow what a week .................. we got to the chalet on Saturday evening and woke to a glorious day on Sunday and skied around Les Gets / Morzine for a couple of days ................ fresh snow Monday / Tuesday and Wednesday morning which made for interesting visibilty but great skiing - then the clouds parted on Wednesday around 11:00hrs and this is what everyone waits for ........ we had the best conditions we'd ever skied Avoriaz was brilliant - glorius sunshine and great conditions .............. great ski area all round and yes we will return next year .............
We kept an eye out for the pig and we weren't let down - it was seen trying to eat a mat on the in the heavy snow on Tuesday (I think) by the restaurant at the Fys chair lift !!!!!

We skied over from Les Crosets to the Avoriaz area yesterday, on the way home from the 4 Valleys, absolutely loads of snow, but was it hot! Plus 8 at 1600m at ten in the morning! Anything that caught the sun was getting heavy and chopped up by the afternoon. As long as the temps don't stay high for too long the snow will last easily, but you don't want too many days as hot as that.
Incidentally, the Avoriaz area was packed out as well.

But anyway, can anyone tell me how the pistes (and other snow) are holding up in these absurd temperatures of the last few days? I don't arrive in Les Gets till poisson d'Avril and it all seems to melting away at a rate of knots.

It's been getting quite soft by the afternoon except for the higher up areas. Pleney was quite shmooey on Friday afternoon but the Fornet bowl was really nice on Saturday. We were on Mont Chery today and it was OK above the gondola until late morning by which time it was getting very soft although the bottom part of the run to the chair that goes up beside the Bouquetin run was still firm at that point. We were still able to ski down to the bottom of MC though. I heard that there is snow forecast for this weekend.

We have been skiing Les Gets and Morzine most of this week in wonderful sunshine - yesterday Nyon and the Chamossiere (red, black was very firmly fenced off) were good at around 1 o'clock - then after lunch skied home and it was not slushy as I had feared. So today keeping up the habit of the last few days we were at Ardent and in the bubble at about 8.50, brrrh - so much colder, really regretted not having the thermals on. The wind was bitter and the chair up to the top of the Mossettes was painful, could not get low again fast enough! We spent the rest of the morning skiing around Lindarets, down Zore a few times, back to Lindarets and home for hot soup. It may well have been not the day to venture far from Les Gets in retrospect. Still skiing down to the village from Mont Chery - we will try MC tomorrow. It now about minus 7, at about 1200, around 9.30 p.m.

Spring slush.
In the nicest way.
Not a patch of grass to be seen - which is unusual for this time of year. Very few (really) icy patches.
All in all. The best I've seen the snow at this time in March in the five years I've skied here.

Thank heavens, all this sun was starting to worry me - although as you say, FlyingStantoni, there's still a stupendous base for the time of year. I see also that there is some snow forecast for mid next week, so hopefully when I arrive Wednesday week it'll all be back to mid-Feb beauty. Can't wait...
