Chris Brookes, I've built or to be more accurate helped the kids staying in the hotel to build snowmen before, I have to say however that the snowmans conversation was to put it mildly, limited

Why not go somewhere other than Wengen, David?
It's got a reputation as a family resort, not really the place to meet single women.

D G Orf, my attempt of building one went a bit pear shaped but it was fun (i will email you my sad attempt..lol) ....

D G Orf she wouldn't necessarily know whether she liked Wengen or not. She may not have an opinion on it.

D G Orf, you will find someone David when you least expect it. The amount of time you are spending in Wengen this season does give you a good chance of find ing that special lady, plus if you do find someone there you will have found something straight away in common... You should visit Murren for the day..(cheap joke..i know)

A romantic thought, but not necessarily a true one IMHO. If you want to meet someone then you've got to get out and do something about it, it's not going to fall into your lap.

D G Orf, don't give up! I have an encouraging tale to tell.
I was 15. Already my friends had had more than 2 boyfriends. Me? None. Zero. Zilch. I was beginning to wonder if I would ever get one (I'm not the most attractive person.) Then suddenly a boyfriend comes along in the shape of my best mate's computer loving older brother, whom I hated for 4 years. Not any more! Well we weren't together long and everything's gone a tad pearshaped because he doesn't know whether he likes me or not. But he still lets me hug him. Good thing! The moral: If Julia can get a boyfriend, anyone can get a partner!!!
Julia
p.s nice little smily!

Like I said I'm not overly worried, a companion would be nice but I'll enjoy myself in Wengen anyway because I like the place so much

Chris Brookes, hmm only one problem with that idea there are far too many good looking blokes arround here and they seem to get all the girls. Not that I'm suggesting that all the local girls are vain and just like good looking blokes, but that's what the evidence locally seems to suggest

D G Orf, I'm sure I'd make a cr@p agony uncle, but FWIW, I reckon your first move is to start thinking more positively about yourself. Your obviously a decent bloke, solvent and a good skier, what more could a girl want?
|
|
|
|
|
|
D G Orf, Right, you need to sort yourself out once and for all! The world is NOT made up of just good looking people with you perceiving yourself as the only ugly one in it!! A couple of friends of mine (considerably older than you) have both found partners on the Internet. Don't back off and say no this is too awful - it isn't, but being lonely IS! You have to network yourself as much as possible. Get on to friends re-united and also some dating sites (even the times/ telegraph have these). Yes you may meet some weirdos, but they're not all like that. You love skiing, why not become an Instructor at Matchams and be with like minded people - girls love Instructors! Believe me there is a girl for you out there who is probably feeling as you do now, but if neither of you do anything about it you may both miss your chance!

Kramer, Pains me to say it, but i totally agree with your point above.
Am I right in saying that this isnt just a thread now about a skiing companion, rather finding a proper GF type set up?

Nadenoodlee, Yes it seems so. If D G Orf, simply wanted a skiing companion, then ability on skis would take a higher priority in his criteria.

Nadenoodlee, to be honest I'm not sure anymore, when I started this thread last year I was acting as a full time carer for my mother so couldn't have taken the time for a GF, but that's no longer the case, so perhaps now I can start thinking about what I want instead of what everyone else seems to want, it's just I've not quite worked out yet how to do this me me me thing yet

D G Orf, I think Kramer, has a point about Wengen. You should try elsewhere, after all how do you know until you try it. I think you need to get out of your comfort zone and maybe you could also discover that there is more to skiing, life and yourself than just Wengen. There have been a few people on this site looking for companions to go to other ski resorts, perhaps you should try this option instead of trying for a companion to go with you to Wengen.

In general girls are MUCH less obsessive about EVERYTHING than blokes - blokes like to watch every minute of the test match series, or know exactly how many stars some bit of kit got in "What Hi-Fi" magazine, or post all day long on the internet....
To me DG Orf's Wengen obsession seems like one symptom of a particular sort of personality, and frankly a lot of girls will say "it's a great big world out there, let's explore it together", and think obsessive people who do the same thing ALL the time are a bit strange - I agree with IncogSkiSno, DGOrf should maybe try a chalet holiday or SCGB type thing somewhere other than Wengen. For what it's worth, I got together with my GF while snowboarding in Castleford so I know it's possible!
