I’m currently staying in Meribel centre. The pistes up high and down to about 1800 metres are in good shape. Anything lower is ok first thing but soup before noon and not great at all coming back at 4pm.
Went over to Les Min, VT and Orelle today. Orelle was the busiest I have ever seen it.
All in all can’t grumble at all.

It’s Snowing again in Les Menuires.
Agree that anything above 1800 is good.
It’s lovely up high by the peaks.
(Reberty & Bruyeres both look fine from the lifts)

We dipped into both Mottaret and Meribel Central today. Pistes were fine. The snow cannons / piste bashers are doing their jobs.

Ski’d over in courchevel today. Amazing piste conditions first thing and for most of the day to be honest. I found myself asking do they groom them better in courchevel sector but I think there is definitely less traffic there.
Headed back over to Meribel after lunch and ski’d four seasons in a day. Headed up legends and went and did Jerusalem at around 3pm and it was still epic.
Definitely full on spring skiing now but still epic 3V skiing to be had.

The quality of piste bashing / snow preservation in the 3Vs is heads and shoulders above that of any other resort I’ve boarded in the last 30 years. In my experience, the Courchevel and VT runs have always been bashed better. For some reason, the Méribel crew are not as thorough - particularly, on wide runs where the overlaps are basically a combination of ruts and frozen cookies.

Depending on the weather when I'm out for a long weekend I'm going to try the Escapade in a day. Just working out routes, from the Top of Bruyeres 2, what's the quickest route to the bottom of VT13 Funical Peclet?
I think from looking at the recommended maps I go down 4 Vents, left onto Alpage, then left onto BD Echauds, but I can't see if Echauds will take me straight to the bottom of Peclet?

I think it'd be close but I would go down Goitschel and then Corniche (my favourite route into VT as it avoids the madness of Pluviometre).

@franga, oh I like that one cheers, nice black and looks easier to follow as well!
Here's my rough plan drawn up over lunch, does anything look like it could be improved upon? I've put a random timecheck of 2pm at Chanrossa, which then gives me til 16:55 to get to the Dou Des Lanches, suspect that's plenty of time and 230 maybe a better checkpoint? But obv don't want stranding in Courchevel as my apt is in Meribel, hence the 2nd yellow to check at top of Dou wether to go down to Golf or not!

You'll need to take the short Mures Rouges chair (after you've skied Combe Vallon - unless you come down Campagnol) and then Plan des Mains before you drop down to Mottaret to jump on PdL1 - don't be tempted by Ours (it's flat / slightly uphill). But I'm sure you're "allowed" to ski Campagnol?

The quickest way from Bruyeres to Funitel Peclet is via Mont de la Chambre. Take the little cut through on the left hand side of the right hand bend that is about 100m below the restaurant on to the bottom of Pluviometre. Turn right over the bridge under the line of Cairn and hold your speed to go past the bottom of the magic carpet that's opposite Peclet. You'll be going "against the flow" for about 30m to the Peclet doors.
Don't take Lac de la Chambre piste all the way to Mont Vallon, cut on to the path on the left just after Campagnol merges. At the end of the path, go straight across the red and continue on the path underneath Plan des Mains. That will bring you out above Mont Vallon so you don't have to punt up to it.
Take Campagnol and the path again to get straight on to Plan des Mains chair rather than Combe Vallon & Ours to Pas du Lac.
Aiguille du Fruit to Tovets is quicker (and more fun) via Pralong and Cospillot - start schussing at all the ralentir signs at the end of the tree section on Cospillot to avoid a short punt at the end.
There's no reason not to go down to Golf if it's close - have a pint at LdV and take the ski bus back to Meribel centre if you miss it. If you make the last Golf lift and the rope tow's shut, it doesn't matter - you can easily punt it instead.
The bail out point is Aiguille du Fruit - if you're running (seriously!) late you can just take Suisses and go straight back to Meribel.
I'm pretty sure you could be at the top of Chanrossa at 3pm and still get round comfortably.

Another bailout could be top of Foret: skip La Tania and go straight to Dou des Lanches.
If you get stuck in La Tania it is only about 3 miles by road to Meribel Village (for the ski bus), so a taxi might be feasible.

Oh, it's just a perfect day...
Or at least the morning was: air cool and crisp then the warm sun shone and softened the piste. Tomorrow AM should be good but then the forecast deteriorates.
Although I'm an indifferent skier I made myself proud this morning. I came hurtling down the steep bit of the run from the top of Roc de Tougne and relaxed my concentration just before it flattened out. I caught an edge, causing me to wave my arms and one ski in the air like you see on those youtube epic fails just before a face mushing. A couple of years ago I would have given myself up for lost and went down but I somehow fought my body back under control, much to the amazement of the group of spectators. You can't afford to fall at my age.

Thanks, I skied Ours in Jan and it wasn't that bad from memory, I don't think going up Mures and up Plan Des Mais will be quicker overall ?
Or going down Campagnol brings me to the top of Mures anyhow as it joins Lac de la Chambre, so that might be faster?? Most people seem to do Ours that have done it from what I can see?

Cheers, my only concern would be missing the little cut through, would Goitschel and Cornice not be more fun, less busy and less risky of missing the cut through for not much more time?

@ronniescott, no worries, its all over the https://www.latania.co.uk/ website with the following warnings so I'll post them here

This is NOT a race
ALWAYS CONTROL YOUR SPEED. You do this entirely at your own risk, act responsibly, take full ownership for your own actions and all of those with you, respect other people (& the mountain), ski & ride within your limits, always obey the skiers & snowboarders code, observe all signs, pay attention to all notices, advice & instructions from Pisteurs, only ski off piste if fully equipped & knowledgeable, it's not a race (you won't be insured), think about the safety of others as well as yourself but above all, think of other people, take care, don't wreck things for others & don't even think of blaming anyone else if it all goes wrong..... |

I've just checked and that is what I did last time. I took Campagnol because although it's longer, it's an easier run to ski non-stop than Combe Vallon. Then the path as described to come out above Plan des Mains and on to Ours. If you're fit enough, you can take Combe Vallon.
kitenski wrote: |

The way I've described is definitely the quickest because it's the most direct and the easiest ski. No need to take the flat at the top past Lac de la Chambre and Pluviometre or to go through the centre of VT. The cut through is an official path and is signposted - you can't really miss it, it's the first bend after the only restaurant. Restaurant's on the right, path on the left. It's where the drag lift Montaulever used to finish before they pulled it out which was the bad weather way from LM to VT.
At the end of the day if you want to ski Goitschel, you can but it'll only be the bottom section, I don't really see the benefit.

Yes, the road bridge is the end of the drag lift and the start of the run. The run splits through the trees, doesn't matter which side you take, they converge just before another bridge which is where you need to start gliding.

@kitenski, are you thinking of this weekend, or a later date?
Not sure how long they will be able to keep low runs open. To St Martin (below the St Martin Express) is already just a piste of artificial snow with bare rock/ grass on both sides.
And after lunch anything below around 2000m that isn't north facing is getting very soft and cut up

I have seen that this 3v enduro is on easter sunday. A bit confused about how it works despite looking at website a while, I presume all of the stages are open all day and you can do them in any order? Some of them are quite low down. That brings me to my other question, you previously told me about the download in Loze, are there any other chairs that will download in 3V? I know it sounds strange to be asking about easy routes and entering races at the same time but there is a big difference in ability levels in the family and we are meeting other there who will make up the team. Should be out at the end of next week.

If you look at the Pieton (pedestrian) map it will show you which chairs you are allowed to download on.

From an Escapade perspective, the run that's most likely to close and put a small spanner in the works is Verdet. No snow-making and direct sun. Often looks ok from the top even when it's marked closed but you go round the bend out of sight and it's gravel and grass. If it's shut, go to Cherferie on Roc de Fer and down Jerusalem instead. It's a pretty good detour! There's not much else that should be an issue in March.
You're going to hit Ours around lunchtime so will depend on the freezing level as to whether it's gone soft by then or not.
