Mrs Ozboy is braving the pouring rain as she is taking lessons this week and only 20 cars or so on the PLJ car park!

That’s what the real estate said just after the section about my apartment being in a [not] ski-in ski-out location

@Ozboy, the apartments they’re building by the Super Morzine roundabout are describing themselves as “ski in-ski out” - perhaps “roller skate in-out”…

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake-effect_snow
Lake-effect snow is produced during cooler atmospheric conditions when a cold air mass moves across long expanses of warmer lake water. The lower layer of air, heated by the lake water, picks up water vapor from the lake and rises through colder air. The vapor then freezes and is deposited on the leeward (downwind) shores

Just wanted to say we had an ace burgers and beer lunch at O’Chalet in Morzine on Saturday. €15 Euros for a substantial burger and fries was very reasonable. Great atmosphere too.

@BergenBergen,
Whilst Chicago receives a large amount of lake effect snow from Lake Michigan, I’m not sure that Lac Geneva is really going to be big enough to make a difference.

We once had a scary late night drive from Geneva Airport to Chatel, going northabout the lake. Within a few minutes the road became a ploughed field and snow built up so much under the windscreen wipers, we had to stop several times to clear it. We phoned a friend already in Chatel who said it was snowing but not outrageous. I would say that was the lake effect in action.

Why does the Nyon area looks so much thinner and worse than any of the other webcam pistes? The rest of the pistes look okay all things considered. Nyon looks like it's getting bare again!

@winterstickboarder, I don’t know Nyon but probably due to lack of snow making, aspect to sun or elevation

Haha that's a fair point I didn't look at the camera heights, just assumed it was higher than the Les Gets one idiot! |
It’s not just height here is a comparison I found on a French forum. Photos taken 3/1: Chatel Linga area in red (1110m) which is north facing and very well equipped for snow making vs Les Gets (1170m) - which I understand the pistes in picture are also north facing but claim to be lacking investment.

@Ozboy, the LG front de neige is NW facing but doesn’t have the benefit of being in quite a deep valley - but I they do seem particularly good at keeping things in decent nick in that area. We had a great few days last new year skiing over there (and Grandes Combes above Avoriaz) whilst everyone was cancelling their trips.

Hi Ozboy. He's doing ok, he gave up all alpine racing in the summer and has moved out to the US full-time to go to school and ski moguls. We rarely hear from him, so it was good to see him at Christmas and it seems like he's enjoying life out there. He skied a couple of times with Pierre over Christmas, but we never saw Julien around. Did your kids have any lessons with him?
It was nice to have some decent conditions this Christmas, I take it you were out for the holidays?

Honestly - all will be well. Tomorrow might be a bit wet as well but if you’re not skiing tomorrow it’ll be fine from Friday.
In fact you might want to pack a spare jumper.

Yeah not concerned about it being skiable, would just like it to be cosmetically pleasing hence the desire for falling snow tomorrow lol - GF's first ski trip and want her to have the best impression possible.

There is plenty of snow to make it perfect when you propose to you GF.
(I've proposed twice at the snow - once in Thredbo and the second time in Zurs.
