Just back from a long weekend, staying at the Bahnhof at Kleine Scheidegg. Very clean and friendly but pretty rowdy on SAt night. Shame that the Tipi shuts at 5. Shame also that the Bellevue turned away our party from the bar which is for hotel guests only. Maybe it was just us! Some of our group stayed at the Eigernordwand and were very positive about it. Piste conditions were excellent .

Hardcore! I've often thought of staying at Scheidegg for a few nights, but couldn't resist the lure of the Wengen nightlife (such as it is). Some of the best days I've had were the ones when I got the first train up to Scheidegg and had the place to myself for an hour before everyone else arrived.

Telford mike, yes that was the best thing about staying up at KS:making fresh tracks at 08.30. 'Nightlife' wasn't too bad - both the Bahnhof and EigerNw stay open till 11ish for drinks - no music though. Swiss skiclubs seem to use the Bhf most which made for a good atmosphere apart from a drunken chorus of Hey jetzt geht ab,wir feiern die ganze Nacht at 1am

The Grindelwaldblick also stays open till at least after 9 pm... As for 8:30 tracks... I can do 8:37 tracks as Mannlichen cable car runs from 8:30, and the mannlichen chair is also open by then. Lager opens at 9. This is how I move ahead of the crowd in main season

Chris Brookes, How much time do you need for Jsy-Gatwick-GVA-Murren ?
To be honest i'm a bit fed up with Train-Ams-BSL-Train-train-train taking rougly the same time as Car-Train... Asuming Sleazyjet doesn't delay bigtime (as usual)

Ray Zorro, where are you staying?
The horner normally lets you use the net when you grab a beer (or when you stay there)...
The Rocks bar in Wengen has wireless, but they don't always have it on... and since its a bar, they do expect you to grab a beer as well.

Ronald, um - I don't actually know the name of the chalet I am going with Oak Hall - if you know where they stay? iirc it is about 15mins walk from the station and near the holiday park place.
Thanks for the help. I think I know the Horner. Do you know any hotels in Lauters likely to have it I don't really fancy having to go back to Wengen?

CHALET JUNGFRAU
There are a number of local amenities close to our chalet including a small supermarket, internet facilities, a restaurant, information bureau and cash point machine.

Ray Zorro, I asume they are pretty much based on the Camping Jungfrau site... They have internet facilities, but i don't think its free (even for guests, from the review 'featured' on the hostelworld.com site)
You pass the horner on the way between the campingsite and the train station... which you don't have to walk. There should be a (free) bus service from the campingsite to the station.
One thing is sure, you don't have to go up to wengen as there are several non-free locations to get online in Lauterbrunnen. The camping, the Horner, Valley hostel (at the laundry place, which is theirs). And we seem to have a fancy looking place where the travel agency used to be, which more then likely will have access.
I'll be in town next week. Arriving friday late afternoon, free to ski on Saturday.... Should be working Sunday till thursday or friday (depending on where i get send). Leavign on Sunday (I refuse to drive on the transfer days of the hottest week of the season)
