Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Just back from a long weekend, staying at the Bahnhof at Kleine Scheidegg. Very clean and friendly but pretty rowdy on SAt night. Shame that the Tipi shuts at 5. Shame also that the Bellevue turned away our party from the bar which is for hotel guests only. Maybe it was just us! Some of our group stayed at the Eigernordwand and were very positive about it. Piste conditions were excellent .

Hardcore! I've often thought of staying at Scheidegg for a few nights, but couldn't resist the lure of the Wengen nightlife (such as it is). Some of the best days I've had were the ones when I got the first train up to Scheidegg and had the place to myself for an hour before everyone else arrived.

Telford mike, yes that was the best thing about staying up at KS:making fresh tracks at 08.30. 'Nightlife' wasn't too bad - both the Bahnhof and EigerNw stay open till 11ish for drinks - no music though. Swiss skiclubs seem to use the Bhf most which made for a good atmosphere apart from a drunken chorus of Hey jetzt geht ab,wir feiern die ganze Nacht at 1am

The Grindelwaldblick also stays open till at least after 9 pm... As for 8:30 tracks... I can do 8:37 tracks as Mannlichen cable car runs from 8:30, and the mannlichen chair is also open by then. Lager opens at 9. This is how I move ahead of the crowd in main season Wink

So fustrating that no airline does a scheduled weekend/weekday service to Berne airport from the UK apart from Flybe from Southampton but only on a saturday!!!!!!

In the old days Dan Air used to fly from Gatwick to Berne and also Cross air used to fly from Paris (CDG) to Berne..... Sad Sad

I can recommend Swiss Air from London City to Basel then the train via the Ost to Wengen. I managed just over 3 hours door to door (Wengen-Basel) in Jan. Then took just 11 mins from getting out of my seat on the plane to standing on the DLR platform with my bags (collected from the carousel) at City airport. Free suitcase, skis & boots and an allocated seat with Swiss - no Sleazy-jet scrum! Book early and the Economy Saver ticket is very good value and compares well with the no-frills boys. Basel flights are much cheaper than Geneva & Zurich, with similar or better transfer times (but not so many flights, but the flights are good for maximum 'slope time') Very Happy
Travelling by car to Wengen on Thursday/Friday with the family (4xflights at peak times=££££!) - 11 Hours trying to avoid the Dutch/Germans heading for the alps - and Snow is forecast for Kent on Thursday PM rolling eyes
Still, just look at all the snow on the cams, Bring it On!

The LCY to Basel route leaving 07:25 arriving Basel at 10:25 then taking the 2h50m train journey is excellent if you are travelling on a Saturday but sods law im planning it on a sunday and for us no one flies to LCY from Jersey at a cheap rate rolling eyes

sherlockis, what time did you return as the only direct flight i could see was leaving Basel at 06:20!!

So far i have managed to get the best price with BA from Jsy - Gatwick - Geneva for £450 return for 2 adults,1 child and an infant then training it as usual and using fly rail for our luggage etc, train time 3h41m to Murren

We did think of travelling by car again but we are fed up of the 12 hour journey each way which we have done a few times

Why cant an airline go directly to Berne on a sunday Puzzled Puzzled

Chris Brookes, How much time do you need for Jsy-Gatwick-GVA-Murren Wink?

To be honest i'm a bit fed up with Train-Ams-BSL-Train-train-train taking rougly the same time as Car-Train... Asuming Sleazyjet doesn't delay bigtime (as usual)

Ray Zorro, where are you staying?

The horner normally lets you use the net when you grab a beer (or when you stay there)...

The Rocks bar in Wengen has wireless, but they don't always have it on... and since its a bar, they do expect you to grab a beer as well.

Ronald, um - I don't actually know the name of the chalet Embarassed I am going with Oak Hall - if you know where they stay? iirc it is about 15mins walk from the station and near the holiday park place.

Thanks for the help. I think I know the Horner. Do you know any hotels in Lauters likely to have it I don't really fancy having to go back to Wengen?

CHALET JUNGFRAU

There are a number of local amenities close to our chalet including a small supermarket, internet facilities, a restaurant, information bureau and cash point machine.

Ray Zorro, I asume they are pretty much based on the Camping Jungfrau site... They have internet facilities, but i don't think its free (even for guests, from the review 'featured' on the hostelworld.com site)

You pass the horner on the way between the campingsite and the train station... which you don't have to walk. There should be a (free) bus service from the campingsite to the station.

One thing is sure, you don't have to go up to wengen as there are several non-free locations to get online in Lauterbrunnen. The camping, the Horner, Valley hostel (at the laundry place, which is theirs). And we seem to have a fancy looking place where the travel agency used to be, which more then likely will have access.

I'll be in town next week. Arriving friday late afternoon, free to ski on Saturday.... Should be working Sunday till thursday or friday (depending on where i get send). Leavign on Sunday (I refuse to drive on the transfer days of the hottest week of the season)
