Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

does anyone know the name of the murren op run that drops from the shoulder of the schilthorn into the Wintertal (?) and finishes at the Gimmeln drag? There are two entries, the upper being more extreme, the lower clearly visible from the schilthorn cable car. people talk about death's head/skull from the danger sign which is no longer in place. (Nor is the high heeled shoe with a red line through it, behind the schilthorn).

I know of two op runs from the Shilthorn but don't know the names and why ? (will need a local guide on both of them)

I know of the signs you are talking about which have been there for donkey years...sure they are not still there ??

well, looking at SCGB website for Mayrhofen: Lower slopes (650m) 10cm / Upper Slopes ( 1800m)70cm

compared to Murren : Lower Slopes (1650m) 100cm / Upper Slopes (2600m) 190cm

.....i guess it will be a lot better !!

Got back from Wengen yesterday, tons of snow fell in the last few days I'm pleased to say, about a foot and a half of powder to ski down from Schillthorn on Friday (tough run that one especially in flat light!)
As we left Saturday there'd been loads of snow fall over night, so conditions should be great. Needed the top up, as there was some icy areas which the snow freshened up nicely. Over at Murren there were still quite a few exposed patches on the run down to Winteregg lift/train station on Friday, while at the top of the mountain it was deep.

On a more general note - loved the First area from Grindlewald, I loved both runs from Manlicker to Grindelwald, and the run down to Grindelwald from First, all the Grindelwald bound runs were really nice, undulating runs - great. The First area seemed most flowing lift wise in my opinion, with the runs generally being more fun for us - and nice and quiet. Didn't majorly like the Manlicker area all that much in comparison.
Sledge run from Wengeralp station a riot - we did all the runs on Manlicken, inc. the Eigernord run, and in terms of minimum walking, max speed/enjoyment - the Wengen bound run was by far the best. Apologies to any of the walkers I might have flew past - can't say I think it's a great idea walkers and sledgers sharing that track as it's really, really fast in places on a sledge. We did that run 3 times in a row in the end, managed to time the train at the bottom nicely each time. Tip, take gaiters unless you have high boots!

Hi there,

I'm new to this forum. Will be going back to Wengen for the last week of Feb.
I saw this thread has 165 pages ... sorry to say maybe a it much to trawl through.

I have seen, through people like Skiset, you can get a discount on boot and ski hire, but not in Wengen.

Does anyone know if it is possible to get a discount from Intersport (the one by the gondola) by booking in advance, and if so ... how?
And can you get a discount on the lift pass ?

Hope one of you guys can help,

G

Hi, One of the first things you'll learn about Wengen is that they don't have a word for 'discount' in the local dialect. So unfortunately there's no way to get money off the ski-pass!

Have a great time anyway Smile

Not strictly true, I've had stuff discounted before but I've been going there for years, in general the Swiss do not do discounts, the price quoted is the price you pay, there may be exceptions if you bring in a big group but that's about it

I would have thought the easiest way is training back down to Zweilutschinen and getting off and then jumping on the train upto Lauterbrunnen, grab a timetable or ask at the train station

Chris Brookes, I'll have a sort through and find some decent ones- a few pretties that I've found so far Wink
I'd probably go back, but not likely in a hurry as there's still so many places to go and see and try..!

The short transfer to/from Berne airport was spot on though I must point out - recommend flying there, it's a short runway so landing and take off is a bit of fun Wink

Mike, I recently found this UK site that sells discounted Jungfrau region ski passes NehNeh :
http://www.swisspasses.com/
They've sent me a voucher which should be exchanged for the ski pass at the lift ticket office - I'll see how smoothly this works in March! Toofy Grin

Here's a few for starters, love the one looking down on K Sheidegg

nigel b, Believe it's quicker going on the train in the valley as opposed to over the top. I suppose you could get the train up to K Sheidegg and ski down to the station - that's probably a little quicker than riding back down if your legs are feeling strong Wink At least you'll have a rest break on the way to Lauterbrunnen from Wengen

Its good fun landing and taking off at Berne, its a shame no big airlines go into it from the UK except of course chartered flybe flights via Inghams which only arrive and depart on a saturday

Going round the bottom via Zweilutschinen you can be on the Winteregg chair in just under an hour if you time it right
