Must have snowed a bit more overnight as there was fresh powder in Lech and Zurs today ..... about 5 or 10cm in places ... great conditions and blue skies too. Off Piste runs down to Zurs from both sides of the valley absolutely superb. Very cold this morning but the sun warmed things upnicely in the afternoon.

Hello All, I am going to be in St. Anton on Sunday and would be good to hook with people as much more fun skiing in a group than on my own. I think I am booked in with P2P for level 3 on Monday (PBJ, were you able to come?) Anyone about?

Ok folks we got some dust and snow is in the air today. Some nice weather coming up for the weekend
but all change again mid next week as another winter blast rolls in.
Another great day - snowed overnight and light snow most of the day.
Viz poor and windy on Valluga side - challenging conditions. But magically Rendl was pretty clear and did 4 trips down the North Face through the cowcatchers - some epic lines in 20cm or so of fresh powder in places.
Great exiting through the trees - needed to keep to the Northerly faces as the West face was a bit crusty and the fresh snow blown off.
PBJ Junior Snowhead said best run of his life.
Piccies to follow.
Sorry Dublinfella - I go home on Sunday ..... around tomorrow if anyone wants a blast.
Still snowing and windy.
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

PBJ, Agree with PBJ Junior regards Rendl North Face, just awesome - we spent a full day last week just battering up and down it though the barriers and down through the trees, in bad light, knee deep.........fantastic, back there at the month end, cant wait!

PBJ,
I know St Anton pretty well. Just curious, which route are you referring to as the Schindler chute?

Hi Richip,
Top of Schindlergrat chair the chutes are on the immediate left.
First couple are netted off - you can climb around the nets but it's a bit sketchy.
If you go into the third one you can traverse back over the ridges to get to the others a bit lower down.
Bottom of the chutes if you stay high and traverse to the left you get to a big rock in a saddle where the Vallugabahn 1 cable car pylon sits. Left of the pylon traverse brings you to a nice face under the chair, right of the rock under the gazex is a great short face which then joins the main face which you can ski down to meet the ski route.
If you are determined, you can ski pretty much all the way under the chair, but you have to go roung the netting at the top and traverse back to the lift which is a bit of an excursion ! It catches the sun ..... so can be fab with spring snow.

Nah it's rubbish down there........

North Face Rendl warning.
This is can be a very dangerous unpredictable slope, many lives have been lost over the last few seasons. None of this area is blast controlled.
Just because you might see other tracks going down it does not mean its safe, alot of folks make this assumption/error and end up in trouble or a lot worse
And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

I'm flying out tomorrow for the week, some snow showers expected Tues/Weds.
Conditions look great, and I'm hoping the crowds are not everywhere! PBJ, +1 on the MarkyMark SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! those chutes are a fave playground in and around Schindlerkar.
So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

Another epic day.
The poorer weather on the Valluga side yesterday paid off today. Start was not promising but the cloud broke up enough for good viz and we enjoyed shin deep powder in the chutes all morning - opened up one of the chutes - the narrow second one along ..... Nirvana.
Back home tomorrow ...... Chamonix in April hopefully.
Stanton - point noted ..... the guides said the North Face was pretty stable at the moment.

Seems pretty quiet on here these last couple of weeks, assume all are busy enjoying the conditions rather than sat in front of their PC's, and who can blame them?! Any updates from resort on OP conditions would be welcomed.
Any SH's around Arlberg 2-9.3.13?

Can't wait.
Seems like some good visibility weather coming up, but might be a bit low on powder

Markymark29, the lads are there that week as is my neighbour and some of his mates. Absolutely gutted not to be going - and I mean seriously gutted. Only had 4 days skiing in Zell am See this year and spent most of that fannying about in queues.
Anyone able to guesstimate how steep those Schindler chutes are? 35 degrees or more?

8611, Probably around 35º at the steepest I'd have thought, certainly not much more, I'd be very surprised if any of them gets to 40º for any sustained pitch.

Steep enough to put my heart into my chest anyway. I've always assumed that in your mind you think this must be 40 - 45 when in reality its nowhere near, hence why I'd guess 35. The adrenaline makes you think you could do with a rope though .They seem to get slightly steeper the further skier's left you enter also, or maybe thats just the optical effect of the colouirs being thinner that side?
The one time I went in, unwisely, following a guided group they hiked left and up at the end of the colouir and ended up at a shoulder under where the Schindlerbahn crests the mountain there, leading out into an open bowl leading down to the ski route. This is a bad question to ask as it will tend to increase the taking of chances but if you just continue straight down (without turning hard left and hiking over the shoulder) will you rejoin the pistes again, and is this slope prone to avalanching? The answer to this question is get a guide I think....

Just back from a week in Warth. As always, we had great snow conditions and enjoyed some excellent off-piste. Low temps meant that the powder was really light. Hopefully it will not all get skied out too quickly next season when the link to Lech opens ...

I am flying out to Munich on Sat morning 2nd March.
We are staying in a small B&B in Flirsch , approx 12km from St Anton , we have a hire car for the week.
Never been to Arlberg before so looking forward to it. I have a few questions though , if anyone could spend 2 mins helping out that would be appreciated.
We are going to have to find somewhere to eat evrynight ( dont like europop apres bars , just a quiet pint ).
Does anyone have any recommended places to go and eat supper that is sensibly priced . Needs to be Eu10 - Eu20 range ideally and open for food from say 6pm.
Also , Is it worth driving to Warth or Sonnehopf or even Fiss at the moment or just stick to St Anton and surrounding linked villages ? we can drive to Lech / Zurs to cut down transit times , I guess they have parking at the main lift areas?
Any horrendous traffic bottlenecks that we need to avoid , Sat Nav says Innsbruck and across . I know about the Vignette thingy.
Many Thanks , Dupes

The road between Lech and Warth is closed at the moment due to the avalanche risk and is unlikely to reopen before the end of the season: until then, it will be a 2-3 hour drive from Flirsch to Warth via Reutte or Dornbirn! There is no lift link to Warth at the moment, so you will have to wait until next year when the Auenfeldjet gondola will link Lech and Warth.

dupes, Main Autobahn via Innsbruck is best route, allow 3-3.5 hours. Agree re Warth, the pass over is closed every winter.
Eating isnt a cheap hobby in any ski area, and Arlberg is no different. We go to St Anton in summer as well and bike a lot around Flirsch and Pettneu so know it reasonably well, and there may well be some cheaper eateries out there rather than venturing into St Anton all the time, maybe best to mix it up a bit. That said there are one or 2 decent places on the back road into St Anton, turn right at the Shell station as you enter town and there's a couple on the way up that main route........one on the right is used by a lot of locals, called Maximillian I think (next to the flower shop), and opposite one called Alibi. Arl Rock Buddah cafe is also a cheap place to eat (parking free outside). Once you are into the main St Anton area you're into resort type money and I think you may struggle at 10€pp but at 20€ you'll get decently fed so long as you arent big drinkers! Most places open reasonably early.
If driving round to Lech/ Zurs park in the free carpark as you enter Zurs (both sides of the road), main way up 2 person chair that gets you moving is behind the hotel on the right, then cross the road on the travelling bridge, or right (both lifts go to same place) and up to Seekopf at Zurs.
Sonnenkopf well worth a visit too, aslo worth driving to Stuben if you have a car, again free parking and you'll beat the crowds to the best snow.
We arrive late Friday for 9 nights via MUC and train, great conditions right now, personally I'd like to see more snow this week then at the the weekend onwards overnight snow with -5C and bluebird days, guess thats same for all! Have a great week.

Easter is early this year and most resorts shut at Easter - how long is St Anton open this year?
Dublinfella, Hazienda (M3) or downstairs at the recently opened Antonys Argentinian grill place. We had a really good Italian upstairs in February and have decided we're going to go for a big steak downstairs this time. Also suggest the tapas place, Bodega, bit of a bun-fight but great tapas.

The cheapest place to eat in St Anton is at the MPreis Supemarket on the Highway.
(Timmler Bus stop).
Restaurants in St Anton are expensive. Hazienda & Anthonys you will pay easily
€30 for a steak (only). The Haz has had the same Britishhead Chef for the last 14yrs.
If your going to spend this type of money for a meal go to a top Austrian Hotel.
Hotel Tannenhof is currently the best place to eat.
Parking is difficult (metered) in St Anton. There are regular Police alcohol controls on the highway
Last week everynight outside the Hotel St Antonhof..
Cheaper value places to eat. Maximillians, Fuhrmannstube,Skiing Buddha,Hotel Manfred.

Thanks all for your replies .
This is trip #3 this year so having to watch the dollars a little .
Used all my airmiles to get us to Munich , £180 on a hire car and Eu 50 a night B and B , for the room.
Still , you cant spend it when your dead.
