Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

@jbob, I like the rather sniffy statement that it is good for "some ski-tourers with limited technical abilities" Laughing

It’s a favourite book of mine. I love the stories. I must say the north faces off the argentiere glacier are among the dustier pages.

@jbob, I somehow ended up with 2 copies and I think I gave away one copy. People now asking £60 for it on Amazon!

It’s not the Tunnel in Val d’Isere - that’s got not got any rebar on it and is either corrugated or rock. +1 with Idris

Looks like a Swiss 2nd World War tunnel!

Here’s a slightly steeper, longer one wink

@taffvalais, we have a winner! Super St Bernard (as it was known) now sadly out of service. Was a great place on the right day (whihc was largely part of the financial problems - the 'right days' were few and far between...)

The run down to Etroubles in Italy was a real gem... followed of course by pizza, coffee and then the bus back up and through the tunnel (not the one you ski through before anyone chimes in Happy ). I guess it still is a real gem, but with quite a bit more hard work involved now.

We have that one on our list for next season as well as the couloirs around Mont Velan that we had to bail out on this year due to the conditions in the Anibal couloir

The day we were there we had it practically to ourselves. Fresh tracks all day. The run down to Etroubles was crusty and windblown and when we got to Etroubles it was like a ghost town, then we heard the distant sound of music and when we got to the centre the whole town was marching or watching a procession, it was the start of Mardi Gras we had a pizza and a drink with the mayor who was dressed like the devil .
Sadly that was the last season that it was open. It still ranks as one of my best skiing days.

I'm not great with photos of steep pitches as usually I’m hanging on by the skin of my teeth and photos are the last thing on my mind. So if anyone has one to post go ahead while I look back to see if I have anything interesting.
