Hello all, I am going to be in St. Anton 16-18 Feb, and my buddies have cancelled on me, so am looking to find ski buddies/join a guided group for some off piste skiing. Anyone going to be over there and have room/fancy getting a group together to get a guide?

If you get no offers then look at the Powder Club (part of the ski school) or Piste2Powder - they will sort out a group for you. Cost is roughly the same as if you got a group together and hired a guide.
EDIT - just realised you are there at a weekend - I think both those outfits do not run the groups on the weekend... so your original plan is the best bet. Good luck!

Hi sah, I was planning to go with P2P but they only do private groups on the weekends (I'm there for Sat, Sun and Monday.) Powder Club would be a good alternative though...thanks for the heads up.

Yeah, that's the downside of P2P. I *think* powder club is the same, but certainly worth a try. There are some other schools listed on the website. It's not in St Anton, but the freeride school in Stuben might be worth a look too; bit of a pain to get there for first thing , I guess you could get a post bus to Alpe Rauz and ski down from there if you had to meet before the lifts open.

Cheers for the heads up on the Stuben option. I was looking for it but unable to find it. I'll have a car, so worst comes to worst I could always drive to Stuben, if there is somewhere to Park. I have also dropped a line to Classic and Alpine Fantastic so something might come of it. Otherwise, there is one potential interest in getting a group together, so hopefully might be able to find enough to get a private group going.

Hi all, were heading to St. Anton w/c 2nd March. Conditions look great just now so hopefully the fresh snow will continue for a week or two.
We're staying in Petteneu at the Hotel Lavenar - Anyone any feedback on it? I believe its a bit of a climb up from the village but is it walkable?
Travelling with the missus (leaving the kids at home this time) so no real issue in walking, within reason. Good value comapred to St Anton hotels, hence our decision to go there instead.
I believe the hotel arrange morning/evening transport to the bus stop?
Some direct feedback would be great though
Cant wait to get over there.

Folks. Its cold its dumping. POWDER all over.
Avalanche danger is considerable.
We have some victims in Lech & Zurs last couple of days.
One Austrian & two Dutch Snowboarders
http://vorarlberg.orf.at/news/stories/2570260/ |
It looks like the 2 dutch were not in an avalanche but became exhausted and called for help (maybe they got lost and ended up in tough and dangerous conditions?).
Thankfully it seems the Austrian lady survived thanks to her friends locating her in 6 minutes, which is pretty good going.
Still, wind + snow means avalanche risk is considerable (on the Tyrol & Vorarlberg area reports, could well be higher in some local areas).

skimastaaah,
Very simple answer - Pow. I have both with me and skied piste ski's on Tuesday this week - total waste. Was in Zurs with my wife and friends yesterday with Torben and it was fantastic. I'm currently in Lech and its banging down. Snow is just incredible at the moment.

skimastaaah, I'm back in Innsbruck now, it's Markymark29 and co you need to persuade to leave you some pow - though by the way they were shredding yesterday you might have a tough time of it! Still snowing though...
They just took the Redeemers, and certainly haven't regretted it this week!
After skiing some great snow on Rendl all day (yesterday), we scored some unexpectedly incredible snow in the gulley under Galzig (the one you ski to the right of, dropping in left in a bowl type thing, I forget the name, Torli Grubn or something?) right at the end of the day! I assume the wind must have filled it in after everyone skied it earlier, did not expect deep fresh tracks there of all places that late in the day! Annoyingly my gopro flopped forward to point at my feet, should still have some good footage formt he last few days though.
Did I mention it's still snowing??

Pagatobel? Or Jungbrunntobel? Jungbrunntobel is the gully you can see from the Galzigbahn I think. Dangerous and very steep at the top, so you drop in slightly lower down and it's good .
My German is pretty limited, but those words seem like they must be dialect? What is a tobel - is it some sort of gully?
Out of interest, how busy is it out there at the moment?

sah, Jungbrunntobel is the one, thanks - yep, do not want to drop in right at the top!! There were tracks there (at the top) on Tuesday, must have been a scary decision given conditions this week (or not, still loads of people skiing offpiste without kit, following us into Hinter Rendl for one)...
Yesterday was surprisingly quiet, I expected the powder hounds to be out, but turned out to be relatively few about!

Yep, there are often tracks in there at the top. Very silly, there is so much good skiing why risk you life (and the life of anyone below you) by skiing something that is known to be dangerous?
Right, going to get some work done now then spend the afternoon daydreaming about renting a flat in Pettneu next season...
