Yes, T&Cs are quite ambiguous for existing passes. I always assumed my PDS pass is well "activated" as I've had it for a good few years and have topped it up multiple times a year summer and winter. But that is a big assumption as they could mean it needs to be "activated" each time it is topped up (which wouldn't make a lot of sense of course but who knows!).
Would be very interested in the response you get from the lift office.

See response above … not allowed. The first lift you use needs to be located in the country the pass was purchased from.

Ah, sorry - missed that post. Good to know for future reference. Thanks.
My friend didn’t use a lift in Chatel, as I said above, she bought and picked up the pass in Chatel but used it in Champery for the first time. I warned her about the post at the time but it worked out ok for her. Perhaps they « activated » it in Chatel but it was not the first lift she used.

@andy from embsay, yes nothing to add really, next week has been looking risky for quite a while now, and despite cooler temps mon-tues there's still little hope for wed-thurs.
For anyone who has never boarded down the front of an empty freshly carpeted Mont Chery, here's a short and single run from this morning....right down the middle.

Magic morning on Mont Chery, very quiet, another 5cm of fluff. Photo doesn’t do the view justice, great viz over towards grand massif and Mont Blanc.
First lift, immaculate virgin coudroy and nice side piste.
That’s me done here for a while, off on a ski holiday next week.
Not jealous at all!
They got the TKs running so Wed training for U8/U10 in Chéry has resumed (they were mostly Chavannes side during the hols), but it's only in the afternoon.
Enjoy your holiday!

On Saturday the meeting's at 8.45am though, so I might get first lift too
BTW last Sat my #1 skied down Chery because the TC was stopped (it lasted maybe 10mn), can I assume it's still skiable? Lots of snow in the plain Monday/Tuesday, but the red and black down are still officially closed - my understanding is that the main downpour came straight N/S from Annecy to Geneva avoiding the Chablais.

@patrick!, there is snow all the way down but with hardly any snowmaking on that side and south facing, it's not pisted, so best to download. Run is officially closed but some still ski down. And yeah way down the valley around lac Leman got way more snow.....easily 20cm, think it was an unusual south stau event, where PdS was too sheltered, or just unlucky.
When I got back to the flat I couldn't believe there was a guy 'skiing' down route des chavannes.....don't know how high he started but there was hardly any snow on the road by then, and plenty of traffic....guess he couldn't wait for the bus, but those skis bases clearly aren't his own.
And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Hi guys, I am hoping for some advice please!
I have a transfer from Geneva next Thursday, arriving at 13:40pm.
I am staying in the Dromonts Hotel which seems to be pretty close to where the Prodains Cable car arrives into.
Our ski pass will not be covering our use of the cable car for that day (or is it free for arrivals?).
We will be arriving with x2 large suitcases each.
What are we best doing, have our transfer drive us up the hill to the main entrance, or get a lift to the bottom of the cable car and travel up that way.
I am wanting to do whatever is easiest thanks!
So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

From memory (though it’s been a while) as you turn out of the Prodains lift station and turn left, about 50m up slope there’s a public elevator to take you up to roughly the level of the hotel. From there it’s a few minutes walk up a snowy track to the hotel. Doable but not huge fun with two suitcases each so I’d be tempted to ask if the hotel can arrange for a sled or horse drawn carriage to meet you. On that basis I’d go up to the main drop off point in the resort itself where there are sleds and horses ready and waiting (though you have to pay).
Lovely hotel by the way, stopped there last time I was in Avoriaz and the food was very good as was the spa and hot tub/sauna. There’s also a really nice wine bar just a minute walk opposite it too with a really friendly owner who will recommend you some lovely wine if that’s your thing (it is mine).
You know it makes sense.

Drove up last night to find a fairly snowy garden and a bit of snow coming down as we came through Les Gets. Passenger pic is just as you start to drop down to Morzine from Les Gets.
I hear the home runs (well Piste B) on Pleney are opening Saturday along with the Roc d’Enfer circuit.

Hi, I'll be in Morzine snowboarding from15th to 20th Jan. I bought a Morzine-les Gets pass online but would like to have a day ( maybe two) in Avoriaz. I won't be venturing any further.
Is it possible to upgrade the lift pass for a day or two?, or buy an Avoriaz only pass on the day I would be going up there.
There is some conflicting info on the websites I've looked at.
Some say a PDS upgrade is possible, others say a full PDS day pass would be needed to access the Super Morzine telecabine.
Anyone know for sure?

@mouja, I believe an upgrade is only available if you have not yet used the weekly pass. You cannot upgrade one of the days separately. Be best to speak to the ticket office on arrival.

Easiest by far is getting your transfer up to Avoriaz then getting a town either horse drawn or (cheaper) piste basher 'taxi' to your hotel. Both are easy to arrange when you get to the drop-off area and will take you door-to-door - and being mid-week the drop-off area shouldn't be chaos.
Your other option is to get dropped at the bottom of Prodains which can also be a little cheaper. From there you can buy pedestrian single tickets to get you up the mountain, either from the lift pass desks or there's a vending maching there somewhere. As bigtuboflard said you then have to either lug your bags or phone up for a resort 'taxi'. The Dormonts isn't far on foot and there might even be some €1 luggage sleds at the top of Prodains (but don't bank on it) - but does involve some 'fun'. From the top of the Prodains gondola you need to play a quick game of Frogger to get across the bottom of the Boulavard Skiurs run down under the Plateau chair, heading for the ESF office/Changabang. Follow the track past Changabang to the next building where you'll find a free public lift. Take the lift up and walk through the building and you come out just below the Dormonts. Turn right, towards the Ski Shop and there are steps up to the Dormonts just before you cross the road to actually get to the Ski Shop. 220m walking, including the inside bit at the top of the lift and probably quicker door-to-door than getting driven all the way up the road to Avoriaz - but dragging bags across snow the rest of the time/dodsging skiers all the time.

@Ozboy, cheers for the advice. Based on that I loaded up my rechargeable lift pass online with a day pass for Avoriaz on the 17th for a very reasonable €29.
Thank you bigtub and Mjit - I will get the taxi up to the resort!

Reporting beautiful conditions and weather from Plaine Dranse and PLJ. The snow is excellent. Can anybody comment on what it’s like in Morzine please … planning tomorrow already?

That's Avoriaz only. They sell a limited number at a discounted cost but only available online. I won't be venturing beyond Avoriaz, I'm hopeless with a piste map.

Anyone try the Didier Defago piste down from pointe de l'Au? The top half appears open but just ends midway, seemingly without a connection to another piste or a ski lift.
I.e. is it in good shape to go all the way down to Morgins?

You’ve had great advice (I think the same kind snowheads gave me advice last year). We arrived quite late and ended up waiting quite a while in very cold temps when we rang at the top of Prodains for a snowmobile to take us a short journey so I think I’d do what you’re doing if I was to go back. We loved Dromonts, so cool. Big fan of the outdoor tub and sauna!
Heading out to Châtel Tuesday and really thrilled to hear everything in such good shape!

Thanks.

It’s nonsensical - app shows the same just now. Was hoping to explore the area around Morgins tomorrow but not quite sure how you can access it from Les Crosets?

It joins up with the bottom half or Tovassiere, all the way to the village. The top part of that one fron the Col des PdS is marked as closed, but clearly, if deFago is open then the bottom half is skiable. Not been out myself yet due to COVID so can't comment on its condition.

The overall PdS piste map doesn't show that area from the best angle and ha been known to confuse, the paper version for the Swiss side is much better. There's a little drag lift 'Gueilly' that links you from les Crozets to Chapoussin, quite simple in practice.

Whoever said that Saturday transfer days were the quietest day of the week has got it wrong for the Les Gets bowl. Big queues for all four lifts in the bowl.

@franga, Apparently it's holding up well. The last few days have been cold with small amounts of precipitation, not always snow as such, but a couple of cms of hoar frost on the cars of a morning (at village level - reports of more higher up). But as I've said, recent illness has meant that I haven't been up the hill yet, so...
The red down to Perrieres is open today so took the opportunity to have a bash on the “alpine roller coaster”. Quite a hoot.

We too are staying in the Dromonts area in an apartment. We arrive Friday to avoid Geneva airport chaos and traffic and are staying in Morzine one night. We want to ski in Avoriaz Saturday because we can’t get into our apartment until 4pm. Is there anywhere to store a suitcase and ski bag in storage for the day at the top or bottom of the prodains gondola please does anyone know?
