@jamescollings, I'm away from Morzine at the moment but it doesn't look much different to how I left it on Monday!
The snow looks fantastic for next week though (when I'm back )

Rain at 1200m now

My youngest who is doing her 5th season running a chalet has just posted a very snowy picture of central Morzine with an offer to come out for the weekend. If I hadn't just come back from 10 days in North America I'd be out there like a shot, especially as she'd do me a good deal
This is where we need a snow heads emoticon that isn't smiling

Lovely snow this morning. And rather a lot of it. Comparatively at least. Still snowing in les gets but only just. It's basically white rain now.
ETA - Perriers is open. Mt Chery opening tomorrow.
And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

I think the wet so has now turned to rain in Les Gets. I seem to have got three coats or jackets wet this morning with skiing, dog walking, dustbin duty... There is a new bar open at the bottom of the Vorosses run in La Turche which is very welcome, and quite a large restaurant also. Very close to the lift. We had chocolate chaud in there this morning and then realised we were due to meet son and DIL in La Paika at the same time, so managed that as well.
So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

For the Chatellites the following is a handy link which is hard to track down in the website:
Doesn’t look any more open than yesterday though with Avalanche warning 4/5 I’m not surprised they are keeping Morclan closed as all the ways off there have a bit of a slidey tendancy.
Conditions must be getting very much better.

What're the conditions like on the morzine/les gets runs at the mo? Arriving tomorrow and have a PDS pass for most of the time but was gonna pick up a cheeky 5hour morzine pass to fill the afternoon. Haven't seen half the runs in M/LesG in years due to always going at "just the wrong time"!

Here's the live piste map that shows whats open and closed.....
I see the entire 'Cret Beni' area in La Chapelle is open, (1700m at it's highest point). Yet the entire 'Braitaz' ski area is still closed!
Is this area generally the last to open? I know conditions might not be perfect, but i'm wondering why it isn't open if Cret Beni is.
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Also, could someone provide me with a link for buses between La Chapelle and Chatel (ideally want to get to Pre la Joux). Is that possible without needing to change in Chatel somewhere?
The resort navettes are free however there doesn't seem to be an ideal connection for you between the free La Chapelle one and the free Chatel one.
Basically you can take the free La Chapelle towards Chatel to the last stop which is the centre sportif near the Intermarche supermarket, there you can connect to the free Chatel bus on Line E which goes to Linga. At Linga you can change and go to Pre la Joux on Line A. But I wouldn't bother. Just get off at Linga. Go up the gondola, ski down to the Echo Alpin chair, go up it, ski off right at the top and you're in the Pre la Joux sector. This is all free on the bus. The snag seems to be that not many of the free La Chapelle navettes go as far as the centre sportif according to the timetable.
The alternative is to take the Columbus which is like a coach which does a direct service with all the stops from La Chapelle (and further down the valley) all the way to Linga but not Pre la Joux. This is 1,50 per journey.
So at Linga either ski as I've described above or switch to free navettes Line A.
Hope that helps.

Lots of snow and wind yesterday in Avoriaz, little visibility. Snow quite wet. Then as we headed back towards Super morzine it turned to rain. We were drenched by the time we got there. Later it rained very heavily in Morzine, basically melting what had settled the night before. Raining now still. Heading up in a bit...

thanks @sarah, incredibly helpful as always.
looking at the last map, would it make sense to change at La Ville du Nant (where the roads splits) rather than Centre sportif? Would that mean less walking? Actually, only some of the buses go all the way to Centre sportif anyway.
Presumably I can do the journey in reverse too - ie ski/chair lift from Pre la Joux down to Linga and then buses back to La Chapelle?
In the mean time they can work around the clock to get the Panthiaz sector open, rendering the conversation totally pointless

@mikeycharlton, no I don't think you can change at Ville du Nant because I don't think any Chatel bus goes there! Unless I've missed something?! And yes that's what I meant according to the timetable only some of the la Chapelle buses go to centre sportif so not mega convenient. Columbus might be a better bet. Direct to Linga.
Yes you can ski back to Linga to do the journey in reverse. Well last week the last piste to the the bottom of Linga was still closed so that would be ski to the top of the gondola and download, but possibly open by now. Or ski to bottom of pre la Joux, bus to Linga and change.

We’ve done La Chapelle Pantiaz gondola to Chatel centre by free bus a couple of times and to be honest it is a real faff.
Bus from Pantiaz gondola to Centre Sportif, hang around an indeterminate period then bus to Chatel centre, hang around a bit more then bus from Chatel centre to wherever you want to go.
Whilst they publish a timetable for the navettes it can be a bit flakey.
The Columbus is more reliable in terms of keeping to timetable and if you can get from outside your accommodation to Linga in one hit that would be my choice even if it costs you a couple of quid. 08.24 or 08.46 from CdA tourist office puts you at Linga pretty much in time for first lift. Alternatively the 08.07 lihsa gets you to Chatel centre in time to change to a bus to PLJ for first lift.
I think they only really want to open Braitaz if the links via Torgon are up and running and they weren’t yesterday
So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

Very wet and drippy here in Les Gets, and MC has opened today with the Grande Ourse open for respite from them rain and lunch.

Looking like the temperatures are going to drop next week (at last!).. Looking forward to getting out there on the 17th.. Has anyone ventured over to St Jean D'Aulps? Always liked the little loop there

@steven0123, we hope so! We haven't been over to SJD yet, hope to do so soon as we have season passes there this year, but all our visitors finally leave tomorrow, so we muck out then and have a bit more time next week.

@DJL, pretty sure that you can go direct to Linga from centre sportif without going through Chatel.
Also I'd be wary of using the Lihsa bus, I heard you can't take skis on that one.

While the snow has only just started really dumping, is there much happening with the snow park in Avoriaz - Too early perhaps?

@steven0123, park was not built last week, Stash was closed. There was something near the Lac des Intrets lift, half pipe, rails maybe.
Guess I'll be hiking up to Satellites instead for some fun runs then With the forecasts the runs between the trees either side of the stash and prolays should be good after next week..

Yes, the E navette (free) goes from Centre Sportif to Linga. It runs every 20 mins. On the way back, the E goes from Linga to Centre Sportif via Chatel centre, which takes a bit longer, though you may be able to pick up a bus at Chatel centre. However I agree with DJL, better to spend a couple of quid, go direct and have a proper timetable.
I've hitched from Pantiaz to Chatel without any problem, in full ski gear and with skis, but that only really applies if you're on your own.
Not good news today in the PDS..... its raining I think to at least 2200, maybe more... really is destroying all that amazing snow. Just as well next week there is another dump at colder temps !

@Alex A, where are you? Up at 2200?
Certainly raining in Les Gets all day. There must be some very wet and soggy clothes to dry out tonight.
Looks like more rain tomorrow before the snow returns. I haven't spotted anyone on the Chavannes Express or Perriere lifts this afternoon. Admittedly that was a fairly short survey on my way to Shetpa up past the Chinfrey. That is certainly a much better stocked little store than in years gone by.

Looks like the Colombus option is the way to go.
Just got to hope that this rain doesn't do too much damage.
The good news is that the Linga/Super Chatel is now open.
