pollittcl, if you'd tried that trick in most European countries you would probably have still been over our drink drive limits so it would definately have been better to stay the night

D G Orf, I know, I know it wasn't very sensible, but I did stop drinking at 5pm, and it was after midnight. If I had stayed the night I wouldn't have got the car stuck in my drive the following morning, either!
The equation didn't work out either - large (for me - I don't normally drink) amount of alchohol + 6000 feet altitude should = massive hangover? But it didn't! Although I did drink a lot of water after 5pm, and before midnight (think Lake Tahoe is a couple of inches lower now! ).
Another thought is that what appears as a large amount of alchohol over here is nothing to the norm in the UK - people just don't drink the same.

pollittcl - as a matter of interest what is the drink driving limits in California. I'd imagine its quite low as smoking is also frowned on in public places. In the UK its possible to have just 1-2 drinks, on balance, before driving and elsewhere in europe the limits are much lower. In the USA is there different limits in different states or is there just one federal law for the whole country. Useful to know if one is to drive across the country from east to west.

hibernia, 0.08% blood alchohol level, by weight is the limit in California, which means that if I have three 4oz glasses of wine in two hours I will be over the limit (or three 1 &1/4 oz shots or three 12oz cans of beer{yuk})! So now that I've done my maths, by midnight on Saturday I was well under the limit!(having had less than one glass or equivalent per hour {7 in 10 hours}) And I never said that I was the one drinking the large shots!
I haven't looked at the limits for other states, as far as I can remember some are different, and some counties and/or cities are actually "dry", so you would have to be careful!

Hey ladies, all well and good, but what does American alcohol limits have to do with me finding that skiing companion ?
Oh yes I forgot you've all seen my pic thus need the alcohol

buns, well it's only because of two things, firstly the chances of this working are almost zero and secondly that whilst the companion would be nice, I don't really care as I'll enjoy myself anyway

But I know where you are coming from..... you can probably do your days skiing no problem on your own, it is dinner time that the problem arises..... I go on quite a few work trips and there is nothing worse than sitting on your own eating dinner! It is always so much more fun with a friend..... like who do you throw snowballs at without a friend!? (you have a few years on me, but im sure the urge still hits you!)

buns, Oh yes, besides I always ski more if I do so with other people, on my own I tend to do a few runs, get bored and go back early to the hotel, about 3 ish, with friends it's typically 4 or 5 before I get back

I skied alot on my own last year because my parents were my ski buds and I was wanting to shift alot faster than them..... that said, I didnt get bored! I cant wait to get a chance with someone who would pull me along a bit more..... but (and seeing your tribulations you will) believe it or not, mid twenties people these day just dont seem to ski! I know hardly a single one, male or female!

Ok so bored wasn't the right word to use, I managed to persuade 3 friends in their mid 20's to try skiing and they all loved it, the problem is not that they won't go again, rather it is that they have no money to go again, last time one had inherited some funds, and two had just finished working as porters for one of the most expensive hotels in the country, all the same they would't have had the funds if I hadn't made them give me their money about 9 months before we went, I stuck it all in a high interest account and used the interest to buy group drinks etc whilst we were out there

Yes the money is rather a problem at that age...... but as you say, the key is planning! When there is a will, there is a way of saving enough money along the way!

D G Orf, Exactly! ( and if I didn't have a season pass in the States I could afford to have a holiday in Wengen!)

D G Orf, Of course, you will warn any prospective candidates that you are spoken for on your first evening in Wengen (reference large snowHeads gathering on Sunday 30th). Actually, if you do get a response at the last minute, bring her along (but don't bank on leaving with her....)

Well, D G Orf, I would love to be going to Wengen next week, and I match most of the criteria being of the 'gold dust' type etc (so what if I'm a reindeer?!!), but sadly cannot manage two trips in a month at the moment, so I guess I'll just have to wait 3 more weeks til I go to Austria. The conditions look great though, so who needs a female companion, you'll have a blast anyway.

Look I can make it snow in Wengen, but that is the limit of my weather contol activities ok !
As for me not making an effort, well I suppose not, I mean this is only the second most active topic with the third highest number of viewings, maybe I shouldn't have posted the link to my picture

D G Orf, I know, I know (although the Jungfrau Ski Region topic can't be too far behind!) - what I meant was, don't give up at the final hurdle...there again, you seem to think that the picture posting is an issue! Maybe you'll miraculously meet someone who fits your wildest desires on the train!
