Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Has anyone in the French alps had any fresh snow at all, or is expecting any today/tomorrow?? We are in our campervan north of Dijon and are flexible as to where we go but it looks like Austria’s getting too much (and is a bit far) and nowhere in France is now getting much at all Puzzled Sad

In your shoes I would look at central Switzerland if you want to benefit from the fresh snow and want a shorter drive than Austria. Engelberg is a shorter drive than Val Thorens and is plastered with snow! You could also try Andermatt or Jungfrau area or maybe Adelboden? St Anton is only 90 mins further and also likely to have miles better snow conditions. Be aware that the high resorts will have some closures due to avi risk / wind so for the next 2 or 3 days you ideally want somewhere with trees

@gvj, the whole of the northern alps have had snow yesterday and is expecting more snow overnight then the sun shines . Within easy reach of Dijon it seems the most has fallen in the north of Switzerland , Bernese Oberland area but the Haute Savoie has and will receive more tonight . I was out last week and most pistes are in good nick so with the new snow you won’t have any problem in finding some fun from Wednesday onwards .

Look at this this link after 9am tomorrow to see where got dumped on tonight. Today it looks like Ovronnaz, Les Diablerets, Adelboden, Murren, Grindelwald, Engelberg all did very well! Further East, Flims/Laax, Arosa/Lenzeheide, Davos/Klosters. Lots of choices…

Thanks all, especially @BobinCH. Will probably check out Grand Massif tomorrow but then may head across the border if feasable. Never taken camper into Switzerland before. Apart from needing a vignette any advice re campsites (sorry for the thread hijack)?

What’s the situation crossing road borders with regards to covid vaccine and testing. 10th Feb we are due to drive from Switzerland to France after arriving on a flight from the UK. @gvj,

Quite simple, have the relevant documentation for the country you are entering in case you get stopped, you probably won't get stopped but if you do you'll need it I imagine.

@gvj, (officially) 16 cm in Flaine. Had fantastic day skiing off piste today, one of best. Snow at top in exposed areas a bit crusty but lower down in shelter probably 20-30cm of light powder. Forecast to snow more overnight and tomorrow

@BobinCH, is it good idea to recommend St Anton if Avi risk 4? You know in St Anton they close all good lifts when hint of avalanche danger

I'm skiing here in St Anton this week. it's been great overall. It started bucketing down yesterday, with wind.. We've had .5m of fresh today, and another .5m due for tomorrow.

About half the lifts were open today, most links between areas are down which is a pity, but there's more than enough open to access fun powder fields and there's some great tree skiing here at the mo.

It was avi level 4 above 2000m today, avi level 3 below. So all manageable. Big winds tomorrow again, so maybe slightly less open, but Thursday & Friday look epic currently, and the weekend will be bluebird time just when I'm on my way back unfortunately Sad(

Personally I’d much rather be skiing the tree runs in 1m of pow in St Anton than 16cm of dust on crust in Flaine. YMMV

There's even been a bit of fresh in the Dolomites overnight. Canazei/Campitello are reporting 20cm at altitude. Very welcome crumbs from the Austrian table after an almost dry January! snowHead

That's a weird comment, and patently untrue - arguably the reverse is true... I've been riding the Zammermoos while someone got caught in an avi right under the lift and 50 others were still schralping the slope right above them (and the lift stayed open all day). Plus there is more than a hint of avi danger 99% of days in winter, and they are open...

Obviously they WILL be closing lifts right now, and I'm really not a St Anton fanatic, just find the tone of your post quite odd.

The three day total over Mt Fort is a healthy blue colour but the webcams don't look great. Looks like whatever came in came in with a lot of wind.

Yes sorry I meant last night in Verbier. Looks like Mont Fort got approx 30cm in total but it will be very wind blown.

Be good to get a report from Grindelwald if anyones over that way?

Well @BobinCH, I'm Lauterbrunnen based but regard Grindy as part of my patch.
Yesterday, to my surprise we skied 30- 50 cm of very good ( slightly heavy) powder. We were not expecting much as it had been windy through the night.
Sadly today "kaput" the wind has hammered everything and the temperature is rising steadily so in summary. Very frustrating.
Obviously pistes have been nicely refreshed.

I don’t like this current Western Europe weather setup , I know there’s been some nice new snow in the eastern alps and some very unusual weather in South Eastern Europe and Med . But in the areas close to home , the rest of the alps , the Pyrenees , Scotland and any low lying area in the west it’s been a bloody boring winter since mid Dec .
