@BobinCH, how do you like the Alpinists, get on great with mine, just wish the heel risers were a bit higher, but otherwise on my 2nd season with no issues other than a warranty on the heel riser mechanism
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

2 tours in first impressions are good. Seem easier to click into than the Xenics and love the lack of delta. I guess this is what contributes to the relatively low height of the heel riser but to be honest it doesn’t really bother me. I have the din’s on 10 and it’s quite an effort to twist the heel piece so the middle 5 degree riser looks pretty useless to me. And these Movement Alp Track skis are superb!!!
Just thinking of legal loop holes here... is anyone prepared to adopt me so I can move over to the mainland for some skiing?

@KenX,
Funny old world. I only use the intermediate riser. Saves all that twisting.

The twist sure is stiff but after a few pre-releases on other bindings this is strangely reassuring
So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

@BobinCH, not too sure if you've received their application to join the "Wallies Group"
What was quite amazing was the amount of clothing the Mother was wearing, including a huge scarf wrapped around her neck.
But jokes aside saw loads of people going up the hill(s) as I was out on the XC track linking up a couple of the ski areas where the pistes come back into the valleys.
Maybe the shite weather and dire snowpack etc is a blessing in disguise as would be very serious if many of these skiers that I see were actually out in more demanding/dangerous conditions though I think on the whole most are only skinning up to the mid-stations.
A friend said that there is already a concern for next season if these people go off aspiring to do some slack-country and get into pooh.

I've only taken our next-gen Rando-Chien out once, ended in a trip to the vets for 2 stitches in her paw, she was playing with the skis at the start and got run over, didn't come near them after that.....The vet says they only do it once, then have respect for the edges!

@BobinCH, what are the various bindings?
I quite enjoyed this as long as you understand he’s sponsored by Salomon!
Anyone wax their skins? Just run hard wax on them or actually melt wax and run the iron over them?
And iron over gluey side to make them sticky again?
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I rub hard wax both ways to stop snow build-up, use the same temp wax as you use on the base for current conditions.
If you iron the glue side to perk the glue up, use the waxy sheets that came with the skins between the iron and glue side of skins.......
@BobinCH, I'd get the release value checked on the Alpinist 12, the forward release is dictated by the U-spring and is probably ~Din 12..........
You can change to a softer spring, cheap as chips, I went from the medium on my Alpinist 9 to the soft as I run Din 6 on my bindings.....
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

From Wild Snow review:
"I was pleasantly surprised when my Vermont binding checker showed me the EXACT number I dialed on the printed lateral binding scale (DIN standard allows significant variation). Other companies actually add the settings scale late in the manufacturing process, so it can be positioned for accurate calibration, perhaps that’s what Marker does. Incidentally, the spring they shipped pegged my checker scale in vertical mode, way too high for me. Two other springs are available, “Medium” and “Low.” Our test binding is a model “12” so it understandably defaults to the strongest spring. Lateral release scale ranges from 6 to 12."
The hard spring is round, the medium has a flat section on the outside, the soft is marked "soft" and has a larger flat machined section

I rub hard wax in both directions then run the iron over them lightly tip to tail to set the wax onto the fibres. Don't know if its the best way or not but seems to work ok.
Good tip about the glue side - will give it a go.

I’m running my Alpinists on 10. More scared of pre-releases than anything else to be honest after the Xenic experience. How do you check the release? Is there some tool for it?

There's also a Vermont Binding Tester which is a large torque wrench with a dummy leg/foot that goes inside the boot, but they're nowhere near as consistent as a pucka machine. A lot of shops in the US use the Vermont Tester as is quicker to use and costs waaaaaay less than a machine and they have a legal requirement to test every binding they mount or adjust, even if it's new.
I've tested quite a few of the hard U-Bows on Alpinist 12's and they average out at 11 din. Can't remember having one that tested below 10 or over 12 - so within the din specs even though it's not a din certified binding. Obviously this only for the vertical release as they have an adjustable lateral release.

I just use Nikwax Ski Skin Proof - but I'm interested to find out if I would be better waxing them (sadly not this season)!
