@thefatcontroller, thanks. Can't see anything on line saying how much it is to buy a ticket so I'm just going to assume we'll be ok. Worst case I'm sure we can just bung a few euros, better than paying 40 euros for an afternoon pass if we only have an hour or so on the slopes.

Cold, quiet, snowing. Awesome. Did I mention it was cold. Having arrived in 1950 at about 8.30 a breakfast in the Wood Bear I'd recommend, and what with sorting out ski hire for the majority of my party we got out at about 11. Spent most of the day over in first Peisy then 1600. Bitter wind coming back over.
Bodes well for the rest of the week.

16 January 2016. It was snowing again today, but the sun also broke through for a while! And yes we had even more fresh POWDER!
Looked out the window this morning and it was snowing again!
Time to go and find the powder! Started from Arc 1600 and a quick blast down the off piste to Arc 1800. Top lifts still closed so headed straight to the Derby chair through the trees and then down to the Vanoise Express. The pistes right across the Les Arcs side in the morning were in very good condition with a nice layer of fresh powder on a hard base.
Time to head for Champagny side of La plagne via the Roche du Mio. First found some good snow all the way down to the bottom of the Bauches Chair. Did it twice, first from the left side, then from the right. Plenty of room for fresh tracks and the sun broke through making it even better, but it was really cold so not many photos!
Up top of the Roche du Mio and all the way down to Champagny using a mix of on and off piste. The clouds came down and we were in near white out conditions at times. Not a problem, used the piste markers to keep an idea of up and down. By the time we reached the top of the Borseliers chair the clouds had opened again and we had another good run down in the powder to the bottom of the valley then back up the chair and a nice lunch.
After lunch, back up to the top of the Roche du Mio, but with poor light stayed on piste and round to the Crozats face and another good line in the powder to the bottom of the Bauches chair.
Through the meadows and the forest from top of Dos Rond back to the Vanoise Express and then over to Les Arcs. The pistes on the La Plagne side going down to Champagny and back were also in great condition. Very few icy patches and a firm surface to turn on with a thin layer of fresh snow, very nice!
After some fast piste skiing back on the Les Arcs side, up the Derby chair and down to the 'Big Drop!' Sorry we had to trick you into doing it again Bird Lady!! Nice line!
Some more powder in the forest and finally time to head for home.
Made a final run down to the mid station of the Funi in the powder, very nice! IMO, Still not enough snow to be fun if you skied all the way back to Bourg with a sign at the top warning of very thin snow lower down! But going as far as the mid station is great fun!
Another great powder day! They are predicting more snow tomorrow, Hope so!!
Photos from today will be posted shortly over on the Les Arcs Winter page in the January 2016 Album. Enjoy!!

17 January 2016. Today it was much colder, but this was also great as it kept the powder fresh!
Headed over to La Plagne again and a trip over to Montalbert for a bit of exploring now that the new Gondola is running! The pistes we used the whole way across from Les Arcs and back again in the afternoon to Arc 1600 were all in good condition.
Managed to find some good snow on the way over heading off piste to the bottom of the La Roche chair.
Then down through the forest above Montalbert. Fun finding new routes now that the new lift gives much easier and speedy access to this area.
A nice lunch at our usual stop in the forest and then a pleasant ski home across La Plagne and Les Arcs finding plenty of untracked fresh powder on the way!
The photos for today are now posted in the January 2016 Album over on the Les Arcs Winter page. Take a look at what conditions were like today.

The Aguille Rouge cable car was only taking pedestrians today, no skiing up there this week.
I know they've been busy up there tho!

18 January 2016. Time to look for powder fields in other places today!
Photos of our search for untracked fresh powder fields across the Paradiski area today are now posted on the Les Arcs Winter page in the January 2016 Album. Take a look at the great conditions we have right now!

The off piste is amazing and the pistes across the Paradiski area are also in very good condition. Hurry and get out here if you can! You will not be disappointed!
Polairestar Ski Shop at the bottom of the Funi has many different all mountain skis. This is the time to give them a try! http://www.polairestar.com/
Today we skied across Les Arcs from 1600, 1800 and Peisey Vallandry to La Plagne and all the way to Champagny. Great conditions everywhere!
Hope you enjoy the photos!

Sorry I've missed a few days of reporting. Visibility has been variable but that's because there's so much snow coming down. A few mixed messages from a variety of weather apps, Yuge, and R'les Arcs meant we were out early today, expecting some sunshine, getting heavier snow later. A wee bit wrong not seen much sun at all today, and it was snowing heavily all morning! but oh the powder has been pretty damn good... No need to go to far off piste either. Very few people out and it was glorious.
Having lapped Arcabulle they opened Plagnettes a bit later... I've never made fesh tracks getting off a lift before -yes we were first up! So plenty of time in the 2000 bowl before going over to 1600 for lunch.
Malgovert is in the form of its life, and after lunch, the fluffy stuff from Clocheret to die for. A truly lovely day.
And it's snowing again here in 1950. We'll try for same tomorrow.

Oh god, I'm actually going to die.
When you think "ooh that fondue is a bit expensive" maybe you should think "that's probably too much fondue"
I dread to think what bizarre and twisted dreams will keep me waking up in cold sweats tonight. Doubt they'll be repeatable to anyone but a well paid physchiatrist!
I need the toilet, best throw myself at the floor and start rolling, it's the only way I'll get there.

@FIRSTOFTHEGIANTS, hopefully heading over in the next couple of days. Maybe Friday, so will post a photo or two.
Down to the mid station if the Bourg funicular was 'ok' on Sunday. The pistes will still be there, how icy and packed they are is another question.

19 January 2016. Getting away from everyone and finding more fresh tracks! What a day!
Yet again skied fast across Les Arcs from Arc 1600 to Peisey Vallandry first thing in the morning.
The pistes were still in great condition, but I do wish they would not leave the big icy mountains of snow from the snow canons all over the piste.
From Peisey over the Vanoise Express and up to the top of Les Coches and more fun in the forests for most of the morning as the vis was not that great.
Had Lunch by a chalet as the snow was falling all around us. Very peaceful! Then into the forests again for more fun until our legs were done and it was time to head for home.
We managed quite a few trips down through the forest and back round on the lifts today. All the routes were fun with plenty of room for fresh tracks, but the trees did get quite tight at times.
Once back in Les Arcs we headed for home on piste and found that the conditions of some pistes were now not as good as this morning. The pistes are now getting quite hard packed in places and even a few icy patches where they have been well used. Even found a few small stones to avoid!
Some pistes still have a nice soft layer on top, but most now seem to be well skied and you need good edges again! Maybe we will get some more snow tonight! I hope so!
Made it to Arc 1600 and home by 5pm. Quite a day!
Photos of today are already posted on the Les Arcs Winter page in the January 2016 Album. Enjoy!

This is worrying, it's basically been snowing the whole of January and a couple of days of no snow and suddenly everything is hard? Especially worrying is that there isn't much/any snow forecast for the next week or so.

20 January 2016. Today headed over to Arc 1800 and met up with some others for a different kind of day!
Started with a few little warm up runs around Les Arcs under the Arpette chair and then down to Marmottes chair. More nice untracked powder down the middle ridge of Arc 2000 and even an interesting jump.
Time to head down to Nancroix from the top of the Transarc. Plenty of places to put fresh tracks from the top of the Col de la Chal all the way to the path in the forest. The sun was even kind and came out to make the photos even better!
After a nice lunch in Peisey, time to head up top and a little slalom training before heading through the forest to the Chapel! A fun route for small people, but for those of us with larger skis, some turns were quite difficult and the gaps between the trees were tight!
After a quick look in the Chapel back to Peisey. Then a fast ski across Les Arcs to the Snowpark above Arc 1600. Finally down to the Funi and home.
The pistes across Les Arcs first thing in the morning after the work last night were better, but by the time we were heading for home the lower pistes had once more become very hard packed in busy places and there were some stones and icy patches to look out for. The piste going down to the mid station of the funi was quite stony and you had to take care! The off piste to the side was no longer soft powder as it had become crusty on top although still soft underneath. Higher up the pistes are still in good condition.
Take a look at the photos for today which are already posted in the January 2016 Album on the Les Arcs Winter page. The kids did really well and even managed some nice air off the jumps!

Looking a bit like I'll get my first Spring snow ski conditions next week. Only on week four skiing, two of which have been Norwegian and cold as ****. And I was injured for half the third!
Considering we're not ski fit and mostly not skiing first to last lifts. What's the score with picking your times to ski with what may well be hard and icy morning pistes.
Just sleep in and wait for the slopes to soften up then head to the sunny bits?

We've had an 8 day skier with us this week, and we've been out at 9.15 everyday without issue. This ' hard snow' which snowcrazy is on about...he's right there are patches, but they are only patches. As for stones, well we didn't get any going down to le grange, albeit that was Tues, and there was an odd one on Malgovert. But generally SC does try to ensure people are not only getting the very positive side of things. Don't be fooled into thinking it's a bloodbath out here. It isn't.
Now I need to get out into the glorious sunshine of today!
