No smoking in the main area in Willi's now - there's a smoking room at the back which looked like the boot room (must smell pretty good in there in the morning), so the air was clear. It was pretty lively, as was Murmele. Murmele wasn't too smoky either, but that was down to luck, the area by the bar is still a smoking area. Smokiest place was the bar in the Mondschein, which is a shame because that's a very nice place too, less lively than Willi's but very pleasant.

I am seriously going to struggle justifying staying in St Anton from now on...
Out of interest, has anyone skied with the Freedride Alpin school based in the Garni-Arlberg? They do "Freeride days" on Mon/Wed/Fri for €60 per person, book by 5pm the day before. Looks good, especially if you were there on your own. I didn't get a chance to try it this time but seemed popular.

Markymark29, not sure about a shop, there was the guide's office but you may be right, I think that's also the Jennewein rental place and maybe you can buy stuff there too. Actually I emailed Jennewein to ask about demos but they don't rent to the public in Stuben, only to clients of the Freeride school. There's a bigger rental shop under the Post which is a Strolz shop.

Schindler Kar Steilhang - i.e. the lower part of Schindler.
Also look at Mattun, and the skiers right of Kandahar above the Zamermoosbahn lower station usually stays ungroomed.

Is the €60 for a full day?

All seems a bit quiet on this thread, thought I'd give it a bump and waken up any busy SH's out there for a conditions update.................. Looks like your all playing out in the sun!
Coming out Friday staying over in Innsbruck Friday night, early start on the Saturday train and our first ski day 2nd Feb, getting mildly giddy looking like a load of deep pow coming next week, booked it and its due on time it appears

Yeah, I'm stuck in my office and amusing myself planning the next trip. Need a fairly nice hotel as I'll be with my wife rather than scruffy blokes. the Lux Alpina has availability for the week I want and is *just* affordable (well, not really... but I'll raid the savings) - anyone stayed there? It looks great, but then they usually do on their websites. I quite liked the look of Anthony's but that is very €€€ and is only B&B. I'd be very happy with B&B but not at those prices! On the other hand maybe we'll just head to Stuben, but for a whole week that might be a bit too quiet, I need to have the option to fondle a bit of shiny ski gear of an evening .

yea, quiet on the thread..; I'm about to head off to La Grave and Chamonix so won't be round here much.
For sah, we stayed at the beautiful Bachmann apartments in St Anton: http://www.apart-bachmann.at/
I've stayed there 2 years running and it's great.
Ciao,
Bob

I stayed at Anthony's for New Year. Really nice hotel, lovely rooms, staff excellent, great having Intersport downstairs with ski lockers etc and a direct entrance and the position is A1 but it is very expensive and just doesn't feel quite worth the money. Breakfast is not great and needs a big improvement. For me if you want to spend that kind of money then I'd get a HB deal at one of the other major hotels.

Great feedback, thanks. Yeah, for that money the breakfast has better be pretty special. It's in the same ball park as HB at places like the Schwarzer Adler which is pretty serious money (although to be fair they only had suits left at Anthony's, not regular rooms so I'm not really comparing like for like)

sah, M3 (above Hazienda)?
Montana,
Ehrenreich?

M3 is €€€€€ no?
I think Montana had rooms, so it looks like I have a few on the short list To be honest I think I'll give the Lux Alpina a go if no one has any bad experiences, it does look quite funky.

Lux Alpinae is a long way up the hill isn't it, fair walk in the morning, or do the have a complimenary bus?

Don't know if they have availability but if you are forced down the B&B route then the Albona is excellent. A short walk up Alte Arlbergstrasse, ski lockers at Alber, rooms at least as good as Anthonys and a beautiful new Wellness area. Breakfast is B&B standard but a lovely hotel.

If your looking for much cheaper good value places,Austrian staff. Try Pettneu,Schaan, Flirsch. There are places for €50 per night halfboard saunas free ski depot in St Anton.
Direct nonstop buses to the slopes (Quicker than St Jakob). Also night busses.Really dont know why folk dont use this option.
St Anton is overpriced your save an absolute fortune.

Folks. Cold one this morning -15C. Stil no big POW in sight. We are going to get much milder
Weather next week so maybe some snowdust & rain.
Dont forget folks we get the heaviest snowfalls in the Spring March/April.

stanton,
I think that's good advice but if you can afford it there is nothing quite like being right amongst it all in St Anton.

St Anton is ovrrpriced. |
Don't know if things have changed since 08/09, when I spent a few weeks living in Pettneu waiting for accomm to become available in Anton... The busses then were great around the time lifts were opening or shutting, but barely ran from mid-morning to early-afternoon, and apres was problematic as there was a big gap between the day busses finishing and night busses starting (and the night busses only rain 'til 2 or something, one an hour I think). Taxi to Pettneu is only about €10, but if you want to apres/go out at night you're very likely to need one. Hitching into town/to lifts was pretty easy though.
If you're focus is purely on the skiing, Pettneu is great, cheaper, decent pizza place, a quiet 'pub' type of bar and busses are great for first lift/last lift sort of timing.

downhillalltheway, The thing is folk are paying rediculous prices & are being ripped off without realising it. Living in Flirsch you can easily be on 1st lift Rendl before anyone iin St Anton!
