Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Hi all, am looking for retail assistance...I was in Tignes recently and saw a great jumper in Richermoz Sports in Tignes Le Lac (same side of the road as the Arbina, opposite Precision Sports). I think it was Roxy - a black cowl neck woman's sweater with dark pink hearts. It was €75, so I thought I'd try and track it down in the UK sales, but I can't find it. Maybe I've got the brand wrong...but if anyone had the time and could pop in to locate the jumper, and give me the brand and model name, or perhaps serial number - anything that will help me find it over here - I'd really appreciate it. Thanks a lot! Very Happy

Mountain dining.

Which of the many mountain eateries should I look out for or avoid.
I dont want to end up paying 15 euros and more for a drink and a small light bight at lunch time.

Renry, Theres a restaurant near the snowpark between Tignes and Val. Think its called Marmottes? It tends to be one of the cheaper ones. The one up alongside Grattalu is very pricey IIRC as are most of the others.
Do what a lot of the instructors do. Go into the Spar (formerly casino) shop just round to the left of Intersport in Tignes le Lac. Turn right as you enter the shop and theres a cafe counter/takeaway. Reasonable choice for a light snack and hot/cold drink for not a lot of money. Very Happy

The past week has seen great fluctuations in temperatures, wonderfull pistes & quiet slopes Very Happy

The temperature has fluctuated from spring like days to yesterdays cold temperatures with added wind chill. I think yesterday was the coldest day we have had this season by far Sad It's a good job VolklAttivaS5, wasn't here as she would have had all her clothes and gloves on just to keep warm wink . It was a day for hot chocolate stops and riding covered lifts.

The next few days look like continuing cold, which is great for the pistes, but everybody will need to wrap up very warm.

HAPPY XMAS TO ALL snowHead

Yesterday was much warmer than anticipated with clear skes & sunshine Very Happy

The slopes were much busier than the last few weeks with some lift queues at busy times Sad Although once you moved up the mountain there were no queues Very Happy

Had a great afternoon with a group of wacky teenagers who want to jump off anything & ski to their limits at all times Toofy Grin They still fall over a bit when the going gets a little steep Laughing Laughing Laughing

Fantastic snow and good-ish weather. Light was very flat early and late in the day. Quite a cold wind blowing over the higher lifts and somewhat bizarrely they were running the covered chairs on Bolin and the open ones on Fresse. More snow forecast for tomorrow and a big party in the square featuring DJ David Guetta. My 17 year old is ecstatic.
Very Happy

It was rocking in Tignes last night. Starting early evening with the ESF torch light descent down Trolles and finishing with a spectacular firework display and concert in Le Lac Madeye-Smiley Madeye-Smiley

The descent down Trolles was interesting due to the new fresh snow, Moguls, firm piste & varying vizability due to skiing in & out of the clouds rolling eyes

The concert in Le Lac was hosted by Fun Radio & featured a top DJ called David ??? The younger revellers seemed to enjoy the 'music' but i am not sure the older generation were into 'Europop' (Eurotrash) A few snowHead adjourned to the Alpaka for GB new year and some more 'music'

I have never seen Tignes as busy with the center packed.

All yesterday & last night it was snowing but this morning it is bright and clear and fresh tracks will be the otder of the day for any early risers Laughing

Fantastic day. Fabulous light after the murk of yesterday. Loads of new snow overnight meant that the pistes were pretty mogully by the end of the day. Only problem is the New Year crowds on the popular pistes. I had to wait a good 15 minutes to get on Fresse at about 2.30. Little Angel

No late start for me on New years day as ski school still starts at 9.0am

It was wall to wall sunshine yesterday with about 20cm of new snow and very quiet pistes in the morning Very Happy My mornng kids enjoyed the new soft snow and thought it was 'wicked' Laughing Laughing
Today is the last day for the kids so i think a trip to Le Breviere is on the cards

I normally stop for a drink, warm & loo break with the kids and have paid a maiximum of 2.80€ for hot chocolate & yesterday paid 1.50€ for apple juice/fruit juices rolling eyes So its not allways expensive if you stop in the right places Little Angel

Yesterday was utterly fantastic. Beautiful clear light. Pistes in great shape. Still crowded in the most popular spots but that should change from today. Personally I hit a landmark in my novice skiing career as I came down Trolles without an instructor for the first time (I had only done it once with an instructor Happy). Conditions were so benign that I was slightly disappointed at how easy it had been when I got to the bottom. Very Happy

Went for a tour today with a couple of friends.

Started out from the Col de I'Iseran and followed the summer road towards Bonneval Sur Arc. Part way down our route became blocked at a tunnel due to the amount of snow fall. The road was the easiest route to follow but there were some big drops off the side(scary) rolling eyes . We decided to try and and climb up the valley side by following a ridge line of snow and rock out crops. After about 1hr we had only managed about 50 meters vertical and i was hanging off some rocks with my fist locked into a crack to stop me falling. We decided that the best option was to retrace our steps back to the Col. Very Happy
So after about 4.5 hours we had travelled about 4 kilometers, scared ourselves silly & manged very little powder Puzzled

To save the day we skied the Col Pers accessed by the Val D glacier lifts. Some great snow but the road at the end is a bit boring.

A couple of pictures from today

If you zoom into the second picture you can see some chamoix

Still trying to sort this new camera as i took some great shots but cannoy get them to print Sad

Just got back last night after an epic drive through France. Temperature didn't rise above -2 all the way from Tignes to Calais. Heavy snow around Dijon and then north of Reims.

Summary of the week in Tignes - fantastic. A load of fresh snow on New Years Eve was just what the doctor ordered. It was cold yesterday morning. -14 at village level as we left at 1000, so take all your layers.

Val D'Isere side not quite so good and some snow cannons running on Sunday but still fine on the whole. The green runs in the central valley were more or less perfect for novices.

Overall a wonderful week and I am feeling quite smug that business is taking me to Geneva on Thursday so I will be able to sneak in an extra weekend.

thats the key - the local airport bit. i now know from experience that you can always get last minute deals but often bristol flights are gone - guess its a pretty popular airport with a wide catchment for folks from south west and wales as well as gloucester way.
anyway next activity in my lunchbreak now is to search out tignes webcams and snow reports!!!!!

I'm in tignes at the moment and although it hasnt snowed for a while, the skiing is great - the piste bashers do a fantastic job of keeping everything in brilliant condition. It has been glorious sunshine since we arrived on Saturday so we're having a ball. I would without a doubt reccommend an area pass for anyone (like us) who hasnt been to Tignes before as VDI is so easily accessable. The ski area is huge and with littleor no queing at lifts, you can manage to do some milage!! We even did the Face run into VDI which was great fun - very challenging for a intermediate btu great banter! (Especially watching Missus Griffin sliding for about 500 m on her back after a slip!)

Have just a wee peek at the weather forcast for the next few days and looks like there may be a sprinkling but if I have time i will update.
