Good news, although I don't think they had that much the ski club rep is reporting 30cm of powder in Wengen since yesterday, even better snow guess has forecast some 155cm of snow to fall in the next 5 days, now even if we get 1/3rd of that it will really help boost the levels in the area.
Don't you feel sorry for all those snowheads who haven't taken my advice to go to wonderful Wengen in February

Ok my forecast for today is for snow and possibly a little rain lower down with a probable maximum of 10cm of snow and/or 1cm of rain today but still up to 30 cm of the white stuff for Friday and a possible further 15cm on Saturday. Just 5cm of fresh snow fell yesterday as I predicted not the 15 cm Snow guess were predicting, but Murren and Grindelwald are reporting that they got 10cm of the stuff, lucky bunnies, the coming week looks like it may well be overcast on most days with occasional sunny spells mixed in with the odd snow shower but the vast majority of the coming snow will fall on Friday and Saturday, Monday could also get some slightly heavier snow with up to 15cm dropping, temperatures will drop from Friday onwards, with the coldest temps in the middle of next week, the long range forecast predicts a little snow at the end of next week followed by several clear days
Ok I was slightly out on my forecast yesterday and the rain arrived this morning, however I still anticipate the wind to move to the north within the next hour or two dropping temperatures in the area significantly, I therefore still predict 20cm or more for today with further light snow on Saturday and Sunday and Monday to give up to 0.5 M over the next week, though almost half of that could be today, cold temps for the rest of the week should keep conditions good for the Start of Feb where current long range forecasts are predicting further snowfalls once again of up to half a meter

For next year snowheads who live live in the West Country will be interested to know that British Airways are opening a flight from Bristol to Zurich which will cut the journey time to Wengen.

What I want is a scheduled flight to Bern. Bern Airport is less than 1 hour from Lauterbrunnen instead of 4 hours from Geneva, Zurich or Basle you could be off the plane and in resort in under 2 hours, in fact Bern is brilliant check in times are usually just 30 mins to 1 hour before departure no long walks either in the terminal building because its tiny.
Either that or better rail links to Interlaken Ost (as there used to be 25 years ago) so I don't need to change trains at Basle at 5am

There were rumours a few years ago about opening Interlaken Airport to commercial flights. Now that would be an improvement

The forecast for the coming week is for more snow possibly as much as 45-50 cm more, the clearest days should be Sunday and Thursday, next heavy snow Monday, but it's going to be cold, really cold so remember to take those thermals with you, northerly winds for most of the week !

A new service starts on 21 February from London City Airport to Berne. The airline is Darwin Airline, which I believe is based in Lugano. Only one flight a day and nothing on Saturday, but it is better than nothing at all.

Hmm. I guess its a question of how patient you are and how much you're willing to spend. A weekend flight (max 3 nights stay - their cheapest fare) with Darwin for the 25th February costs 420 swiss (£200), plus transfer cost (£55 for the standard rail transfer, maybe a bit cheaper from Bern using the standard fares). Not quite apples for apples, but I can get Luton to Basel return for the same weekend for £55.98, add on the £55 transfer. The major advantage of Berne is the shorter transfer, but I'm not sure that its £150 pounds shorter - thats an awful lot of Erdinger with slice of lemon.

AdrianV, When you factor in the cost of getting to London City Airport (lets face if you go by train then getting to London is not exactly reliable) they the it looks even worse.

True, Liverpool or Luton to Basel with a taxi transfer to Lauterbrunnen (with the left-over money from the flight) would quicker.
Anyhow, who cares how you get there. Just GET THERE!!

well said Telford Mike, we are flying from Liverpool to Basel and we are quite looking forward to the train journey so long as the part of the train we are on doesn't split and go elsewhere as D G Orf said, the thought of a long coach transfer fills me with dread but the same length train journey doesn't!

andyarmitage, 90% or more of the trains from Interlaken Ost split at Zweilutshinen, as long as you are in the front half of the train (Sektor A at Interlaken Ost) you will be absolutely fine, there are usually station staff at Interlaken Ost to point you in the right direction, just dont get off the Basle train at Interlaken West by mistake

andyarmitage, *top tip, appendix 1* Don't try using said 2 franc coin in Newcastle pub cigarette machine when you're half cut, they don't count towards the cost of the cigarettes and they don't return the coin. I was given a 2 franc coin (Bern trolley, for the use of) by telford_mike, and made the mistake outlined above!
*top tip, appendix 2* if you don't have much time between trains ignore the luggage trolley, it is sometimes a real pain to get the coin back as you fight to put the trolley into a line of others and then fit the metal plate in to get your coin back
Interlaken Trolleys (when you can see them) are free I think
