Morning folks,
Heading there next week (staying in Plagne Villages) with 3 families & 7 kids aged 6-10 who are heading into their 2nd and 3rd weeks skiing.
Are there any nice long easy blues that you'd recommend for them, they'll have lessons in the mornings but want to take them off ourselves in the afternoons without fear of them careering off out of control

@PatrickK_ie, Morning, some of this may depend on snow conditions, for that reason I have excluded the lower altitude runs and focused on those close to where you are staying. From my recollection, there are some lovely ones off the top of Bergerie, Colosses and Blanchets chair lifts. Same for Verduns, except this heads into Plagne Centre which can be a zoo at peak times. If the conditions pick up or you feel you and the kids are up to it, Champagny has some lovely cruisy blues. Consider exploring while they are in their lessons but I found the instructors (and kids) were only too happy to share where they had been! Enjoy

@PatrickK_ie, I'd echo what @Snowmadmum has said - a lot of the blues that head back into Plagne Centre can get really busy and consequently can get quite lumpy and bumpy. Sometimes it's better to head towards Bellecote from the top of the Colosses lift as generally people have come from Bellecote (so are heading to towards Centre). Also the blues runs from the top of Arpette are generally wide and easy (until you get to Belle Plagne).

how are the pistes holding up. Im assuming the usual high is ok, low down scraped, icy, slush, depending on time of day?

This coming Saturday the motorway will be blockaded between Albertville and Chambery
According to Radio La plagne
Best leave early and arrive late?
The blockade was from 8 to 12ish last Saturday

@boredsurfin, Ouch! Glad we’re arriving today! Is the blockade part of the ongoing protests around France?

What a beautiful day today has been. Lovely spring like conditions this morning over on Champagny side and around Roche de Mio. Went up to Glacier and skier down the Combe Red, also in lovely condition. Skies through the traditional French lunch time then stopped for lunch after that. Pistes this afternoon less good, chopped and/or icy in the usual places. Tomorrow forecast to be warmer still so will be a case of get high and stay high for a long morning again. For now, it’s beer-o-clock.

Good afternoon,
Been watching the thread for a while so thanks to those who are making updates. Thanks @boredsurfin, for the heads up on blockades, I'm on a 15:30 transfer from GVA (coach) , looks like there's an alternative route via Annecy - is that viable? Do the airwaves anticipate any issues? I'll have to let the accom. office know if I'm looking like being late, the transfer allows 3.5hrs.
Looks like it's going to be warm all next week, and the webcams of the lower satellites are looking quite spring-like already. Sounds like the piste conditions are fairly spring-like too? I think the warm spell actually my fault, it always seems to be warm when I go (to be fair usually book in March).
Thanks to @PatrickK_ie, for asking and @Snowmadmum, @Handy Turnip, for the answers that gives me some info to use as well, as I'd wanted to know good pistes to warm up on from Plagne Centre. As a snowboarder I try to avoid long flats and uphill sections, are there any pistes or sectors to avoid in general in this regard?
Also wondering whether anyone recommends any favourite routes around the resort to get to see a bit of the resort (la plagne side) and cover some km. I'm an adventurous intermediate (I'll suffer anything but maybe avoiding blacks, bumps and steeps for the first few days at least).
Merci

@silentice, I'm a big fan of the Sources red from the top of Roche de Mio, and there are some lovely runs over the top on the champagny side (although watch out for the flat bit just after the bottom of the Verdons Sud lift)

Not sure if this is the right place for it but any recommendations for dinner in La Plagne for a big family group with kids? We’ll be staying in Plagne villages (arriving tomorrow) Thanks!

@silentice, some more flatter bits where you need to keep up a bit of speed
Pravendue, towards Montalbert
a bit of Tunnel, leading to the tunnel itself
a bit of Blanchets, after the crossroads
a bit of Replat, leading up to the rope tow
plus getting from one side to the other of the snowfront in Plagne Centre itself.

Just back home after a brilliant week staying in Belle Plagne. Conditions improved from very hard on Sun to fabulous on Friday. Two great days in Les Arcs including Aiguille Rouge down to Villaroger (20 mins wait for cable car worth it). Off to Val Thorens in 5 weeks....

Morning - am I completely making this up, or is it possible to access Champagny sector via piste Geisha from the top of Blanchette lift? Via the Roc Du Diable piste?
|
|
|
|
|
|
chopkins13, I think you need to ski uphill for your route
|
|
|
|
|
|
@chopkins13, Yes, you can access Geisha from the top of the Blanchets lift via the Roc du diable piste. It's the narrow track to the left at the top of the blanchets piste. Just stay on the narrow track past the top of the col de forcle drag lift and it will take you round to geisha.

@chopkins13, yes you can do that. But if there has been any recent snowfall Roc du Diable is often closed - it doesn't seem to be a priority for avi control.

On another matter, have you noticed on Yuge, in the Live 3000 section, there is listed a "Glaciers 1bis" lift?
"Not yet available on the plan", but presumably the new gondola going via Col de Forcle, yes?
Suggests this project might actually happen.

Thanks - found my way round Roc du Diable and down Geisha - although I wouldn’t recommend it’s icy and cruddy.
@Jonpim, I can see the start of new concrete bases for the pylons for the new Roche de Mio bubble - as you come in to the Carella top station, they’re down on your left. The key missing piece of info seems to be when this will be fully built, and of course the million dollar question, where will the mid-station be if not in the centre of Belle Plagne?

Thanks for all suggestions.
Very bad traffic on the motorway getting to resort yesterday from chambery onwards, transfer from Geneva took just over 6hrs with a change at Aime train station. I guess all those people will be heading the other way next week as well

I think they would want to remove the Blanchets chair and Col de Forcle drag. So the mid station would have to be somewhere giving access to the Blanchets - Quillis col.

@geoffers,interesting option, but bad news for Belle Plagne.
@ecureuil, Removing those two lifts would be a step backwards - more pressure on Bellecote. And the slalom trainers use the drag now instead of having to go down to Bellecote and fight amongst the crowds each time. Given the pylon bases are going in now, it seems strange that the SAP haven’t confirmed exact details as they must now be known. Also, wouldn’t they need some form of permissions from local authorities? So they would have had to applied for these with all the details known?

According to Tony Savoyard on the well known ski lift Forum the mid station is going to be next to the lake at col de forcle.
They are going to keep the relatively new blanchets lift but I assume they will remove the drag lift up to col de forcle.
From what I understand they will keep the existing gondola between Bellecote and Belle Plagne.
Plenty of detail here - https://www.remontees-mecaniques.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=39473

@skichampcouk, Thank you, that is excellent information, and if delivered, is probably a great addition all round. I assume you will need to change cabins at the intermediate station like you do on the new Glacier bubble (when busy, there is the option to run cabins straight through).

Anybody any idea why such a long winded route rather than following the existing track, may be a faster line speed but probably a longer time due to the extra length?

Just a thought but assuming there’ll be the option to unload at the new mid station would it ease some of the pressure on Blanchets and Collosses for people looking to head back towards Plagne centre? Both of those chairs can get ridiculously busy at peak times and weeks.

@stevew, They are setting up the lake at col de forcle as a summer attraction so it gives easy access to it from Bellecote in summer.
@bigtuboflard, You still wouldn't be easily able to access Plagne centre from there unless you went down geisha and then up Verdon sud. Maybe they will reinstate the old drag lift (can't remember the name of it) that used to finish near the top of the bergerie lift.
|
|
|
|
|
|
skichampcouk, are you referring to the "Leprechaun" lift?
That was moved to compensate Dou du Praz restaurant when original Melezes was replaced by Bergerie, and the " Dog Leg" drag out of Bellecote was discontinued. Two lifts that finished by the restaurant were suddenly no more.

@skichampcouk, The old drag that came up by Bergerie was called Leitchoums, there was a French petition to get it re-installed, SAP haven't said no but haven't said yes either, it did save going into Bellecote to get over the ridge to get back to Plagne Centre etc - was invaluable for us to get back to Montalbert as well.
I hope the Col de Forcle drag is kept as its a sneaky, and can be quicker, way to get over to Champagny. I did notice they didn't bother opening until Xmas week this season - always a bad sign when they cba. to open a lift....

What kind of temps should I expect to encounter on the slopes in a few weeks? I get cold hands(sometimes get some white fingers/tips etc) so I'm looking at getting some Hestra 3 finger gloves. Just want to make sure I'm not over doing it and will end up with hot and sweaty hands!
