Quick question, in the past we have rented from Mountain Story in Tignes Le Lac, mainly because they had these great storage lockers which allowed you to effectively store your kick a stones throw from the Palafour lift for €70 per week for a 4 person ski locker. I've gone to look at hiring this year and I note that they seem to have changed it so that they offer Ski GUarding with the, but the price is now €40 per person. Does anyone know if the locker are still there, but sold out?

Think they have bumped the prices up for the same product - think MS has new owners.
Not sure how they can work out how many pairs are using the lockers - as you know, you can jam a fair few in each locker !!
€40 per head is ridiculous.

@mountainaddict, Exactamundo. We only used them once in 2020 as our accom was a fair hoof and we could get straight into walking boots and then gracefully to the pub !
Full disclosure though, our pad this year is about 20 yards up the road from Mountain Story and we have heated lockers at the front door.......

We're staying in Le Bec Rouge and have ski lockers so we may well be renting close to the apartment and skiing the kids down!

@GreenDay, You must be going soft in your old age! Handy for L'Embu then?
|

@FrediKanoute, The whole of the Bec Rouge is ski in ski out, well you have to walk 4 metres from the piste to the locker room doors. There is a red piste or a blue piste in, the ski out Is a green. No lockers required, just don't miss the last Palafour or Almes Chair. If ypu rent frpm Sport 2000 its only 50 metres to the entry to the garage and all undercover.
So you can spend the money on beer. Mines a pint.

Good to know! Is it still ski in/ski out even in the first week of April?
We wont be missing the last chair. Have a feeling we will be finished by 4pm most days.

@FrediKanoute, It has been every season I've been there. The first number of your apt number equates to the lift you need to access it. Number one is at the top, ie longer walk, can't remember the highest number but around 8 or 9, by the garage door.

On a related point to the posts above, any recommendations for ski hire in Le Lac? We're staying in Rue de la Post. No special requirements. Kids skis and an intermediate adult. There seems to be a pretty big price difference between different places. Sport 2000 do the job?

Off to VC at end of March and haven't been there for some time. Have a 13 and 14 year old so self catering but fancy a couple of evening meals out and tend to steer towards French food rather than Italian. Any recommendations? Would rather try to keep to Val C but no bother to catch the bus I guess. Couple of venues that stick out already are Aspen in Val Claret (salads look good and decent price) and Loop Bar in Le Lac (burgers). We'll be overnighting in Bourg on the way back so saving a (cheaper) pierrade for that.
One other thing - I love stinky cheese but don't know if you can ever get raclette for 1 person or whether it's always minimum of 2 (so I'd have to twist hubbie's arm whilst the kids sit there pinching their noses - or perhaps they could just wear FFP2 masks........). Thanks!!

@Kettonskimum1971, I don't often eat up in VC but L'Armoise fits the bill for you. Been run by the same family for years.
Aspen is great but lunchtime only.

@chocksaway, You may not have been this season, but current thoughts on Pignatta for @Kettonskimum1971 same area) near Curling Hotel.
We have used it a few times (mate is pals with owner). Food is always good, but last time the service was dire, we were there for hours............

I emailed them and got the following response re lockers -
We don’t have the lockers.
But for 40 guests, We can keep equipment during the week in our rental Space.
Real shame, but is what it is! We will probably hire from Sport 2000 on Rue de la Poste.

I also have a Val C question not about food!! Our rental is Sunday to Sunday (first week of April) - so plan is to park in Golf for the week (staying in Le Grand Roc I believe). We leave the appartment Sunday but plan to ski most of that day and then head down for a night in Bourg SM.
First question: When I buy a 7 night pass for Golf car park, is there a 'check out' time I need to be out by on the Sunday?
Second question: Are you able to ski to the car park (well, as close as possible) so one of us can jump in the car on the Sunday and meet the rest at the rental shop to drop kit back off and then head down mountain?
Sorry - I just don't know the geography and will probably organise kit rental somewhere close to where we're staying. Got the impression buses don't really frequent the car park area so looking for tips or previous experience.

@Kettonskimum1971, I don’t know the answer to the first question, but the answer to the second is yes (usually). You go straight on at the last left hander back to VC centre. This year they have (or had) been raising the safety netting and pisteing the track to make it easier. The track comes out right by the entrance to the car park. Be a little careful though - we know the track ad dog sh*t alley.

I'm flying back to Exeter from Val Diz on Saturday evening. I'm room 001 in the Victoria Lodge - just up from the UCPA bus stop on the red line towards Le Fornet. I think we're going to the 1975 (or summut) steak house tomorrow evening, but if you email/PM me I might be able to help. I don't own a mobile phone, so text, tweetbook and youtoktick are non starters sorry.

@GreenDay, That's the pair, always sad.
And the weather for the next 3 days, normally I do 4 but its so unpredictable its not worth it! After a cloudy start it will start to snow tonight, and carry on till first light in the morning. With about 5 to 10 cm it may catch out those early birds trying to escape from the village with no chains, potentially a few snags there. But the sky will clear through the morning leaving a nice afternoon, so any early weather problems for cars will melt away, but with 38k coming up the hill and 34 going down it is going to be slow, especially as its Parisien week and normal rules don't apply to the majority of them (according to the locals!). Sunday will be a day of sunny periods and stiff breezes but the clouds will build, the wind will pick up and we are due snow from just after happy hour. Monday will be a whiteout with high winds and moderate snow all day. Not a lot will be open above the villages, if indeed you could see anything. The avalanche risk will rise a lot! Potentially 25-35 cm of snow over a 36 hour period. Beyond that its in the lap of your own weather God!
For those flying tomorrow, just hope your plane is in the right place to start with! The weather will be OK for flying, wet and bumpy anywhere in the UK. There is sleet forecast for Manchester and north, so depending on how close it is to snow, this may cause a few deicing woes. Over the channel it will be fine for aviators, though I suspect the sea will be a bit bumpy Happy travels!

Mountain Story have converted what was their lockers area into more restaurant seating. I've not had an evening meal there, but the lunchtime food is fantastic and well priced.. But that doesn't help your locker situation.

Definitely an admin day today. Very high gusting winds have closed all lifts in Val d’Isere apart from the Savonette poma.
It’s difficult to know how much snow has fallen due to the wind.

I managed to get in 3 runs in the morning (diebold/ok/orange) before they closed the funicular. Experienced one really strong gust on the top that I had to wait out. Piste conditions were all fine and fun, but the visibility in the upper half was very limited and made it a bit extreme.
It would not have been fun if I haven’t had understanding on where the slopes go or if my skiing level had been what it was a few years ago

Well that looked like fun. Not! When I said not a lot open, I didn't think it would just be Paquis and Tichot. Still, Meteo France are talking about 30-60cm of snow, presumably measurements are going to be tricky! The snow and wind are going to continue until early tomorrow when the skies will mostly clear but the winds will continue to blow hard until breakfast time, not I did not say lift opening time as that is going to be much delayed as the pisteurs are going to be really busy. It will be a progressive start (no early morning touring lease) with much noise and vibration from the PIDA explosives. But it will be a day of sunny periods and benign temperatures in the villages, but very cold at height so nice for the 3000 Parisiennes who will be in the queue for Tichot! Wednesday will be great blue skies and sunshine and light breezes, warm in the villages for a terrace lunch. There will be a bit more cloud around on Thursday, reducing the temps a bit but a nice day none the less. A cold weakening front approaches for Friday, a bit far off to give detail but a bit of light snow and a grey day probably.
Only half the avalanche bulletins have been issued for Alpes Nord for tomorrow, the Haute Tarentaise hasn't, those that have are Level 4. Its a while since we had that so take care, there will be cabin fever, powder fever and a bunch of clowns who are clueless and may bring something down on top of you!
