Oh sorry. Won't update then that it is still snowing and better than when I last posted. The new Carelly lift is a great addition. From the top of it past Arpette down to bottom is such fun.

@chopkins13, It's just above 1800 and goes to the ridge at the top close to Arpette. Genius lift. Of it go right towards 2000/1950. Go left and on down to 1800 or 1600 avoiding the flat bit off Arpette and Bois. Fast lift to. 6 min journey. Anyway got yo go. Had lunch and vin Chaud. Powder awaits.

Hi All,
I will be visiting Les Arcs on 5th February. I am thinking of taking a few lessons to improve (intermediate level). Does anyone have any recommendations for english language friendly ski schools? ideally half day lessons. I'll be based in Peisey but can ski across to the main area.
Thanks!

What an awful day. Hardly any snow. No off-piste, no faceshots, no knee deep powder to plough through, and so many people everywhere. Worst. Skiing. Ever. [/url]

Oh man it looks incredible I really hope I get something even approaching those conditions in a couple of weeks.

And it's just started blizzarding again in 1950. Reckon we're in for a similar day tomorrow? Might just go home now.

Why does it look so quiet today? Was it really cold or windy or did the Irish get everyone pissed and the entire resort had a horrible hangover?

@Minion1980, Nearly every lift was open and it is the quietest week of the year anyway. Been here this week for the last 5+ years, its always that busy. Sometimes we have got to a lift and there has been someone in front of us. Thats damn annoying.

14 January 2016. YES I know, POWDER DAY again!
Today was yet more of the same as predicted. However the poor visibility came back and it was snowing lightly all day.
After my usual warm up on the way to Arc 1800 a small group set off from the top of the Vagere with Baxter at the helm for a little play in the forest on the way to Vallandry.
We then split and those wanting to find those fresh powder tracks headed off to Arc 2000 side and up the Lanchette Chair. Nothing higher was open again today.
After a short hike it was into the untracked powder fields all the way to the forest above Villaroger. Then more fun in the forest to the bottom of the Violettes chair.
Back up and lunch, then into the Villaroger forest again for more powder until with tired legs it was time to head home.
Back down through the forest to the Comborciere chair and a fast ski down the piste to the Arpette chair and over the back to the bottom of the Vagere chair.
Back past the Arpette as they were preparing for the evening party and home!
The off piste is still light powder in most places, even where it has already been skied. But you do need to take great care and avoid slopes likely to slide. If in doubt take a guide.
The pistes are in excellent condition everywhere today and it was still snowing lightly as I went home. With these daily top up's conditions are going to get better and better, but it would be nice if we had better vis sometimes.
Photos of today coming shortly on the Les Arcs Winter page in the January 2016 album.

If I want to upgrade a Les Arcs pass to spend a day in LP, what's the cost? If I've got a decouverte pass and want a second day in LP (yes, yes... why would I do that? I've heard all the jokes) what's the cost?
|
The full details are in this PDF.
On page 15 towards the bottom of the table it shows Euro35 for a day to extend to Paradiski.

@Clare_M, @SteveM, we had a brilliant time at La Cachette last year. Loved the food there!
Feeling rather jealous reading all this. Not even sure if we're going to get away skiing at all yet - am about to change jobs, so depends if the new company lets me have our allocated week off!

SteveM, well done for posting that superb pdf showing all various tarrifs for Les Arcs activities, and including the one day extension for Paradiski pass. Was it easy to find? I hoped there might be the equivalent for La Plagne, but so far have been unable to find.

Any recommendations to hire some wider skis in 1600?
Can you get a good rate going in the door, or is it better to book in advance?
I am taking my own skis but want to try something a bit wider. I do regret paying a fee to take them now, I should have just hired from the start. Oh well.

At the risk of sounding like billy no mates, anyone out there skiing or boarding on Sat 23rd who'd consider letting me tag along? I arrive early doors on the morning train, staying in Arc 1600 but the rest of the group arrives by plane later that day. If it is relevant, I'm a skier, comfortable on any piste but don't have the kit or insurance for off piste and of course it will be my first day of the year so I will be warming up.
So, that does make me sound like billy no mates, but the point is that it's nicer to ski socially than just be on your own, imho!

15 January 2016. Can I say it! BLUE SKY POWDER DAY!!
Today was a blue sky powder day. It does not get much better than that! As some of us only had the morning to ski with a birthday lunch later. Happy Birthday Sharon! We had to do as much as possible by 1pm.
Despite the high avalanche risk level and the need to take care, we managed to find some excellent untracked powder and plenty of jumps even with the higher lifts closed. Not sure if they opened them after lunch.
However with the links open in the morning after my warm up down to Arc 1800 we headed from the top of the Vagere down to the Arpette and over to the Arc 2000 side. Even on this short pitch we found untracked snow. It was going to be a good day!
Had a great run down Bois with plenty of fresh untracked snow to play in. Then up again and another route which when we arrived had just avalanched. Found a safe line down with some nice snow in places although very mixed. Then back to the Bois chair again
From the top of Bois this time we went down the middle ridge towards Marmottes chair and found another nice gully to put some more fresh lines. It was turning into a great day!
Up to the top of Arcabulle chair and down the middle ridge and more fun jumps and untracked snow.
Back up the chair again and time to head towards the Derby. Changed our minds and went into the forest and the 'Big Drop' instead. Nice job guys everyone made it and the snow was light and fresh all the way down to Arc 1800.
After a great lunch it was time to head for home, but I needed one more powder fix.
Up the Clocheret chair and all the way down to Arc 1600 through the powder fields below the Deux Tetes and then the trees of the Mont Blanc forest. Take a look at the special photos of this part of the day! I hope I can do what he is doing when I am nearly 74 years old! Amazing!! Are you really that old? I cannot believe it!
Still not done, after all the chat at lunch I headed down to Bourg on my skis. It just had to be done!!
The top half was good, the second section was ok. BUT I recommend you DO NOT try to go all the way down. Take a look at the photos. There is not enough snow on the forest path section or the lower fields!
Quite a day! Tomorrow we plan on heading over to La Plagne. More powder to be skied we hope! Anyone wanting to join us, please PM me for meeting up details.
Photos for today will be posted on the Les Arcs Winter page in the January Album shortly. Enjoy!
The two photos below are the Young and the Old, but which one is which? Amazing! 50+ years of age difference between these two people!

@SteveM, post up nearer the time. We'll still be in resort but have no idea yet if that's an off day for us. Off day being xc or huskies etc. probably skiing tho!
We're up in 2000.

Quick question, this seemed the best place to ask. Do I need a lift pass to get on the Navette in Les Arcs?
I did a season in Les Arcs in 2010 and was certainly never asked for my pass back then, I used the bus plenty (but most often in my company branded gear). But just checking the bus website, it says "Between Arcs 1600, 1800, 1950 and 2000 there is a free (to all lift pass holders) inter resort bus link".
We're travelling out tomorrow (staying in Arc 2000) and if we only have an hour or so on arrival planned to just do a coupe of free runs of the Saint Jacques, then finish the day with the blue down to the bottom of Pre St Espirit and get the bus back up to 2000. Have things tightened up on the buses since my days in resort? If we're all in our ski gear it'll look like we have lift passes, I'm sure I'm over-worrying it but thought I'd check??

Presently in tow truck. Dead car on arrival home. Karma for a powder week.
One other thing for the 1950/2000 geeks. Coming from Peisey we went to 1800. 10 min queue for Transarc. Walked over to empty Villarrds bubble. 2 mins up. Quick scoot down to Carreley. 6 mins up. On way into 2000 before fools in queue would have got on Transarc for 15 min journey. But don't tell everyone.
@Dav, Never been asked for lift pass.
