Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Chamonix 2014/2015

Not chamonix but a great alternative if you are looking for a change of scene. We had a lovely day just the other end of the tunnel, in the delightful Italian Val Ferret. Nordic skiing along the flattish valley bottom with magnificent views. After around 7km you come across a little restaurant with a sunny terrace for lunch.

Sharkymark, sounds like you had a superb day Cool

Looks like you will all be getting a light dusting of fresh snow over the next few days, just in time for my return to London. I am well jealous...

jbob, the snow clouds looked low and heavy when I left Cham just after 7am this morning. It started raining as we reached the French/Swiss border. I know the forecast is for a mere smidgen of fresh but I am thoroughly envious?

Enjoy the new snow everyone! Hopefully that will top up things for my return in a few weeks' time snowHead

Knee deep pow in La Thuile today and no one else skiing it. Just passed through Chamonix on way home and nothing more than a bit of drizzle

Pistes were generally good around Brevent Flegere. Off piste mostly wind and sun scoured.

I think your only camper option is at the Grepon car park. Probably an equivalent in Argentiere. Actually, yes, there are usually a few vans parked up in the Argentiere car park.

Grepon has been off limits to campers since mid autumn, as have almost all other car parks in Cham, new 2m barriers, most of wich are just too bloody low for my Bongo at 2m 06cm!

There always seem to be plenty of campers parked on the road side on the main road just up from the MBC bar. Not sure how many spaces will be available though.

Courmayeur in good shape today. Even some near fresh tracks in deep snow. Exit at bottom of Dolonne pretty scrappy though.

I don't think they let people camp at the gm cark park anymore, all the vans that were in the trailer park at the back last season have now moved to the train station rear car park. they've been there all season though.

I'm in Argentiere off piste skiing from Mar 1st. On my own for first few days, forecast looks great at this remove. Experienced skier, know Cham v. well, would be interested in hooking up with a ski buddy or two. Pm me if interested.

p.s. be warned I'll be supporting Ireland in the rugby though!! Smile

Tippety tip top day up the GMs yesterday. Much more snow than would have been suggested from what was visible in town. Not nearly as tracked out as you might imagine. Some rather excellent lines through Lavancher. Too busy having fun to take pics.

@Chamwow, not wanting to burst your bubble of anticipation but I heard from some guides at the weekend that the Haute Route wasn't the certainty that it often is this year due to snow cover in places...

Hit GM today with another sH (horgand) and his brothers, having booked onto the top bin (as well as yesterday). Closed again today, but had a brilliant time skiing the little gullies under Tabe at the start of the day with lots of wind-blown powder, followed by a couple of laps through Lavanchets and experimenting with some different routes - great snow as well in the main, just the odd crusty patch when we hit more exposed areas.

I had to leave just after lunch to meet a friend over at Le Tour, which was pretty bare or grabby off-piste in most places, though the pistes are holding up rather well.

Top bin booked again at GM for tomorrow morning - hoping for third time lucky and some good snow Smile

Legs just recovering after skiing with Fixx for 2 days...... did a bunch after she left today also, cigar, Canadian bowl, Italian bowl x 2 and a few regular Herse into the bargain, all on cold, slightly windblown, skied but preserved powder. Great fun!! Happy

Fergus, once again, great pics! Cool

fixx, I keep trying to visualise the route we took with Chris off the top bin and along the moraine so that I can do it again when I return to Cham but my memory of it is already getting fuzzy, damnit. Hope you can remember it!
