Still in VT till this evening. It is dumping it down like a mo fo. I went out for an hour this morning and it was knee deep on piste. Loads of lifts are closed which is a shame but i guess its for safety.
I would say there is about 40cm in resort. It was well needed but could have done it at the start of our week here and not on the last day and transfer day!!! Hope Crystal can us to the EuroStar on time!!

Finished off the day doing several runs down the blue into la tania. Kept to the sides of the piste plenty of moguls and knee deep powder skiing in places.
3v links reopened, high winds earlier. Still a little bit of white stuff falling but not as much as earlier.
Overall a good week of skiing it could have been worse but sunny skies and the pisteurs doing a great job in getting pistes open made it a good one in the end. Would have been nice to see more runs in 1850 open, but still enough to keep me going.
Skis need edging but no major damage despite the rocks and stones on some pistes. 3 months and counting till the next trip.

Chris, the Crystal page on FB has some fraught posts from people on coaches going down from from VT stuck at St MdB - am a bit surprised they didn't ship people out earlier, as the huge snow dumps have been forecast for several days now, and Saturdays are always pretty manic on the D90... Are you heading for BStM?

We have just been informed that we are not going anywhere tonight and are to stay in the Chalet. Which is better than being stuck on the motorway like some of the other from our Chalet.
Basically the road in and out of VT/ Les M has been closed.
The downside is we have missed the snow train and Crystal will now try to fly us home tomorrow which is not what we want as the ski train was all part of the trip.

Just got back to geneva from brides les bains. 2.5 hr drive took 10 hours. Lots of people struggling. Ques of traffic going into the threes valleys was massive. If you are going to drive to 3 valleys 2morrow make sure you have snow chains etc, impossible without these, also leave early and expect lots of traffic. Check weather before u leave. Have a good week all

Les menuires website reports 15cm of new snow at resort which sounds rather conservative

@chrisrawles, Yes I did think it sounded a bit odd seeing as there is 30cm reported down in Bourg. They may not have updated since midday or something. Time will tell - I guess the wind was a factor.
Good luck tomorrow - It's a pain to have one's home journey messed up but you're better off in the chalet than on the roads by the sounds of things

@red 27, yeah we just had word that 2 guests from our Chalet that left at 3pm are now on route to "emergency shelter". We have the whole place to ourselves with food, wine, water, cookies. And we are warm and have a bed.

Definitely sounds better to be in the chalet - make the most of it!!! A lot of unhappy people stuck in airports (UK & France) at the mo'...

I'm stuck outside Albertville at the moment, on the N90 I think. I can't seem to access the French Government travel website, could anyone possible post an updated status on roads to the three valleys? As I've not moved for an hour, I guess the road is shut?
Thank you.!!

@DWJA1976, Last I heard from the Crystal ski rep was that the road to VT / Les M has been shut in both directions.

Thanks, I'm trying to get to Méribel Centre tonight but as I'm still 18km from Albertville (and at a standstill) I don't fancy my chances. Looks like a night in the car!

i think most people due from flights today are either stuck at the airports or the coaches are diverting to emergency shelter for the night.

I guess that is one of the downsides of being an independent traveller, no emergency shelter! I'd better get the kids to put their ski gear on before they go to sleep as it could be a long (and cold) night!!

@chrisrawles, what Airport are you going to?
It would be a nightmare if this happened to me (going on snow train a week on Friday) and they flew me to Gatwick and having to get myself back to Darlington complete with luggage and skis!

@RichardB, We were due to be on the ski train but they left it too late to get us back to the station so we missed the train. The ski train out was so easy and no stress at all compared to the airports, What is worse is the Eurostar still left on time so we should be home by now.

@RichardB, It is worth buying some good neck pillows for the train, the ones they provide on the train have sharp edges and are not very comfy. Also be prepared to try and sleep in the seat position. I ended up laying across the walkway with my body under the footwell with the other half across the 2 seats, Its not the most comfy journey, but its worth it as you get the whole slopes to yourself on arrival and on last day as most people leave resort in the morning.

I have an old school friend tryin to get back from 3V with her husband and three young sons, they are having a right ordeal of it. Missed two flights now and not talk of getting put up in a community centre for the night. Rebooking flights looks like costing them all close to a grand!! Nightmare.
