@munich_irish if they were to update the list tomorrow afternoon when would the change come into effect? Flying to Munich tomorrow evening!

I don’t think a travel ban is likely either. Austria doesn’t have pre-entry tests (LFT or PCR) currently so logic would suggest bringing those in first rather than excluding tourism completely from the UK.
I guess if the hospital beds were filling up in Austria with Omicron sufferers they might not be keen on skiers filling them with injuries but how many ski accidents end up with the person in intensive care? Not many, most are a plaster cast from broken limbs and sent on your way.
No one really knows though we can speculate until the cows come home, myself included.

I think the Austrians tend to give a bit more notice than the French do! Maybe I’m imagining that.

Hello all, just joining the thread as booked to go to Tirol end Jan so I’m on the rollercoaster that many here are on.
Everything crossed things don’t get worse, thanks to all those contributing on this thread.

@Noymychashkachaia, The focus here is very much on getting people vaccinated (1.5 million doses yesterday, almost all boosters, the concern is actually having enough vaccine to keep up) and the increasingly violent protests against the restrictions for the unvaccinated and compulsory vaccination. I think unlikely your arrival will be impacted, there is usually 24 hours notice.

No talk of it so far. Possibly the lockdown we just emerged from has/will help...

Argh so near yet so far. The kids aren't counting the down the 9 "sleeps till Christmas", but the 11 sleeps till Ski Welt !! Come on Austria hang on in there, we love you, don't follow France or Bojo. I've had 3 jabs and a bout of covid since March, I have as many anti-bodies as you possibly can do, I've managed to bag my 13 year old his first jab, I've jumped through hoops to get the certificate of recovery for them, I'll wear an FFP2 gimp mask wherever you want me to, I've even bought special christmas themed ones from Amazon as well a straps that will (hopefully) go around the helmet, I'll even sing and dance to the Helicopter song if I have to.
(I might still insist on wearing a towel in the sauna though, but come now, you know us Brits are reserved )
Keeping it all crossed. Gutted for all those who had France plans for Christmas/NY.

I think so too
Here in Zillertal it’s extremely quiet. Mask wearing is not policed on the lifts but people are doing it without being prompted so that may be why! No need to say anything if the compliance is already there.
I guess we will know more after the New Year but I can’t see a travel ban happening so soon after the lockdown was lifted.

I think it's more than you think (end up in ICU, that is). You're right in that the plaster cast and on your way types are not a huge issue – I attended the A&E/fracture clinic a couple of weeks ago, and there were only about 5 patients in total. I was out in 40 min, although no interventions required. But anyone that needs surgery to put them back together will need an ICU bed, even if it's just for an hour while the anaesthetic wears off. I know from experience that the post-surgery ICUs are pretty much empty in normal times, but I think some are closed at the moment because staff have been redeployed. I've heard that there are discussions with private hospitals to possible take ski injury patients instead of the Klinik.

@VolklAttivaS5, Nothing, thankfully, it's just a sprained ankle. I'm not very good a diagnosing my own fractures though, so I though I should get an x-ray

No the ski boot is great for that as long as the ankle isn’t too big to fit in the boot comfortably and it doesn’t hurt to get the foot in and out of the ski boot.
I had 2 ankle turns on the same leg on the same day earlier in July this year (eye watering when it’s one after another) and it was quite big for about 8 weeks I think.
All good in my boots now but I’ve done a lot of ankle mobility and rehabilation for it mind. They can drag on months, worse than a fracture in some ways!

@RedandWhiteFlachau, not from Brightlingsea (where bizarrely I met a mate of yours in the summer at our coastal rowing club) !
I should have been there this week but bailed, partly because I'm back at work full time and actually doing 2 jobs at the minute, and partly because I couldn't risk testing positive and having to isolate there. I've also pulled my 6 week Jan - Feb trip and hoping for a week in March

@gad, you are unlikely to find anywhere with no testing. In Tirol we have Gurgl (spit) PCR tests provided free by the tourist board to your hotel for school age children. These are self administered tests so no queuing anywhere, just do the test, drop it at the Supermarket before 10 and have result back in 24 hours, repeat after 2 days. I guess you would probably need to have a PCR test done before you came to cover the first day. The result from the last day is probably good for travelling home too.
Edit, just seen you said recovered so as long as less than 180 days no tests required in resort, just for travel.

@Chris_n,
It’s the whole scenario that puts me off to be honest, we’re both fully jabbed and boosted. He’s recovered and jabbed and we still have to jump through various hoops just to go and come back.
We’re a family of just three so the social side of skiing is quite important and when I’m reading of quiet resorts and no bars open fully it actually puts me off a bit.
I’ve kept up to date on here about people booking the tests and paying £300 for the privilege and I just think fair play but that’s not for me.
If things change we’ll go, if we don’t the house will be sparkling.

@gad, in your situation, all the hoops are on the return leg, none to come out. Antigen tests for the return are possible to obtain for free, so the only testing you have to pay for are the day 2 PCR return tests. Resorts are quiet because it's early season, plenty of bars are open, and tbh it's nice not to have to queue or wait for a table. Fair enough if that's still to much concern for you, but others will definitely have a good time.

I know, she told me. Hopefully she'll pop over from Ankara this winter too. Although I might be tempted to head East for another Touring Trip in the Kackar Mountains.

We are staying in an apartment, I read above of testing available in hotels. How would we go about getting the pre departure test for coming home, where can they be obtained from? Sorry if this has been covered. And is antigen accepted?
Thank you

@sussexmartlet, You need your pre-flight Antigen Test AND your Day 2 PCR Test on return. Cheapest I've found for both is here: https://covid.randox.com/travelling-to-the-uk/ Leave the PCR at home and bring the Antigen Test with you, it will save you hunting around for a test in Austria. Simples. Might want to bring a few NHS freebie ones to do a pre-test with. I'll say no more.

Yes, antigen is fine. You can get them free from govt testing centres or for 25€ in pharmacies. Where/how you're traveling will probably determine which is easier for you.
