Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Just reading the forum here. I'm due to arrive in St.Anton from Innsbruck airport Saturday evening. Skiing from Sunday for 6 days. Not purchased my lift pass yet. What's going on there? Seems like the snow is that bad everything is closed and maybe for a few days. Really worried now. Can someone explain in simple terms to us as an outsider. I'm gutted at the moment. Worried the transfer coach may not be able to get in now, or worst still the plane at the airport.

That about sums it up. Looking on the bright side, when it clears you will have the most incredible conditions on piste, then later in the week off piste too if/when it's safe.

If it clears in time. Only got the 6 days skiing from Sunday. Weather can be unpredicable though. Here's wishing for freezing temps, blue skies during the day and snow fall at night lol.

Well to any of you out there on the Snoworks backcountry course, see you on Monday (somewhere), and yes we always do transceiver works the first day, and you will be having half a day with me or Bruno and another half day with Lee or Mike. Tuesday should be nice with some sun, but already tomorrow will bring some clearing so they should be able to do some avalanche works and open up some of the runs.

I'm coming too Very Happy

We are flying into Zurich though from Manchester and getting the Arlberg Express coach to St Anton. Hopefully we will be able to get into resort alright. I think flying into Zurich should be ok. Glad I didn't fly out on 2nd now (as per the original plan), sounds like that was a good move as it turned out.

Has anyone got any photos of all this snow in St Anton? It must look amazing!

Also, I'm using this link for webcams, but are there any others?

Anyone going out there this weekend is going to have an AMAZING time - once it clears up!

Whitegold, perhaps you would like to discuss your views with the drivers and passengers in the three cars that were caught in an avalanche across the road near Kappl this afternoon. They all survived and self rescued. How well would you have coped you pillock?

Austria has not ground to a halt, they are endeavouring to ensure that everyone can get where they want safely. The high winds have bought down trees across power lines and currently some 10000 households are without electricity and a few trains are caught without power. But things are improving with all the emergency services working flat out and with luck everything should be up and running tomorrow no problem.

The drivers should be more alert.

Just arrived home (one cup of tea and a shower later) from trip from Hell back from Nassereinbahn. More later on this.

Gampen and Nasserein opened about 11/12, awesome, and no bad queues.

Ulmerhutte snow-depth-ometer has clearly broken. Still chucking it here.

Ohb yes, and all the buses appear to have stopped, taxis are as rare as hens' teeth, and the road to St Jakob is no pedestrians owing to avalanche risk.

St Anton cut off, apparently. No access by car, apparently. Apparently the result of an avalanche.

Equally the main road below St Jakob is apparently also blocked.

My guess is the same as yesterday, just Gampen open, still avalanche danger 4 above 2000m, which are expected to last at least until Monday.

It should start snowing again late morning today Saturday continuing until Monday afternoon!

But later next week plenty of sun is forecasted Very Happy

Is there any truth to the rumour that the road in to St Anton will close this evening and not reopen until Monday or Tuesday? (Road reopened at 10am.) We leave tomorrow afternoon...

Otherwise a lovely day on the mountain, snow starting again about noonish - and the sun having disappeared before 9am (apart from a very brief appearance through the clouds at the top of Galzig. Rendl and Galzig open as well as Gampen and Nasserein.

Fixed it!
Remains to be seen, I guess. I spoke earlier to the Mark Warner resort manager and he said that he expected to be briefed on any such decision this evening, by the Mayor of St Anton. Don't know whether this person holds a sort of press conference, or what...

The road is open, but the train is not, the Austrian railroads has put in special trains from Bludenz to St. Anton and busses the other way.
