Yeah give it all to Chemmy, shes the most likey to podium in the wordcup and I've enjoyed following her races, on those occasions her start numbers come within the eurosport footage window!
plus if its such a shambles, splitting the money may not be the most effiecent way..

Admin,
Thank you for responding.
My 'elastic' paypal payment has now bounced back into the Snowheads Chemmy appeal account. For what its worth i've also made a donation to snowheads, just in case there are any paypal fees i don't know about.
All i ever requested was some form of update as to what was happening with the money. I initially asked how much had been raised and then asked what the next step was. You didn't reply.
I left it a bit and again asked what was happening, again as others did. You didn't reply.
I left it a bit longer, asked for some form of update. You didn't reply. So i pm'd you, as you know, asking for an update. You didn't reply.
At which point i started to wonder what the hell was going on and made that clear on this thread. Others also started to show their concern, others said you were just busy. Again, you didn't respond despite the growing dissatisfaction in this thread in which i was not alone, even if i have been the most vocal.
So i chose to start the reclaim process to either illicit a response or if one still wasn't forthcoming at least have my money returned so i could donate it direct.
I guess it got a response. I'm sorry i had to take the action i did to get it.
If you had posted one line stating that you were finding it difficult to make contact with a representative of Chemmy or the GB team but watch this space, that would have been more than sufficient. If you had posted that there was no news as yet but watch this space, that would have been sufficient. If you had posted that its was a busy time of year and you were struggling to make the time to deal with what was proving to be a difficult process, i'm sure you would have had plenty of offers for help. Including one from me, an offer which i will happily leave on the table though seeing as i've clearly pissed you off i accept its unlikely that you would take me up on that offer.
Lastly, again for what its worth, i do not expect any kind of 'availability of the athletes' in return for my donation. A post on here from a representative of the eventual recipients would be nice, but for me the knowledge that it has gone where it was intended would be sufficient.

I too vote "give it to Chemmy" - that was what the call was for, that's what I was giving to. OTOH it was for a specific reason, which has been circumvented in other ways. Heck: still give it to Chemmy - she knows best what she needs.
On a related but slightly different tack, it is interesting how the possible adoption of "the big boys" in sponsorship terms does alter your perceptions - my basketball team went into administration late last year (somewhat like Portsmouth FC): I had donated large sums (signifcantly larger than to Chemmy) to help keep them afloat.
However when an individual white knight came riding in, if was hard to see why I should continue fund-raising or donating- it felt like I was no longer giving to the cause, but to him: reducing his input, not boosting the team.
So Chemmy - don't tell the BSS what you've got from us - go buy something special and make sure they don't give you less because you've raised some from us.

Bode Swiller, BSS are far from just concentrating on the Juniors. I went to the meeting in Meribel hosted by Lord Moynihan & Dave Edwards (Chairman & CEO of BSS) They confirmed the performance pathway is a Chldren's team (11 - 14), Junior team (15 - 19) & Senior team (20+).
ALL will be funded if at all possible with the sponsorship that is actively being sought at this moment. The Senior team are the priority and will get the most as they cost the most and are aready at a level to compete on an international stage. The Juniors & Children will then come after them. The Juniors will take at least 4-6 years to be at the level that our current Seniors are at so we would have no one at the next Olympics if they do not fund them.
Having had a number of 1 to 1 meetings with the CEO he confirmed to me that would be the case. The money he is trying to raise per year for the team is substantial, and the companies he is meeting with this week are huge and would barely notice the amount the team requires.
A lot of rumours came out of the meeting at Meribel because people heard what they wanted to hear and made the rest up I think.
One of the main ones was thet the Junior team was fully funded for 15 girls & 15 boys!! Completely untrue. At this moment they are about 80% certain that they will have funding for the Junior team coach. Thats it! (IMO We haven't even got 15 Juniors in total that are anywhere near good enough to be fully funded and ski at International level)
The Senior team are not all hung out to dry at all. Hopefully within a couple of weeks new sponsorship deals will be signed and the team will be funded, Chemmy, Ed Drake, Dave Ryding, Douggie Crawford, Noel Baxter, TJ Baldwin etc will then be able to start their summer training and prepare for next season's World Cup & Europa Cup circuits.
Unfortunately SSGB left everyone high and dry and BSS are trying very hard to sort things out in a very short space of time to get things back on the road again, but this time run much better with ample funding. |
it seems he changed his mind between that meeting and the one he held last week... the impression i got is that juniors and children are the future of where it is going and they will get first crack at the moneys available, with the seniors following on, after all they need young blood to build this for the future
if he can pull this off then fair play to him but it is a big ask

CEM, Yes we do need the young blood coming through to build for the future. The Senior team are all still young. Chemmy is still only 28. Dave & Ed 24, Douggie 23 & TJ only 19. BSS know they have to fund the Senior team as they are all still improving and they are the ones that will be going to the next Olympics and racing World Cup next season. The best juniors we have at the moment are only 15/16 & are at least 5 years off racing at World cup level if they make it that far.
As I said before. They defined a clear pathway from Children's to Senior teams. If they had no Senior team funding what happens to the Juniors coming up in 2 years time??

And I hope he doesn't change his mind about funding for xc, snowboarding, freestyle etc. and fund only alpine.

This is very important. XC didn't have a clear pathway from chlidrens - though juniors to the senior team until we took it into our own hands a couple of years ago. Look at the results now. 7 athletes qualified to race at World Cup level (before last year we'd had none for years). Four athletes qualified for the olymics (to take just 3 places). A win in Norways national champs at Junior (under 20) level. Just a selection of the promising recent results all on minimal funding, but they wouldn't have happened without that clear pathway from chlidrens - through junior to senior level.

Plugboy, the impression i got sat at the last meeting was the focus would be on the juniors and then the childrens development then the seniors (in that order from what i understood)... i know exactly what you mean but the money is going to be hard to find... the one thing on our side at present is the WANT oof help of every mation in the lead up to 2012 this is leading to several contra deals which could help cut the costs down....
Dave Horsley, he was certainly still advocationg a multi sport funding approach last week
selection criteria was posted and i believe the team selections are happening in the next 2 weeks, this is just the beginnig, other sports had the failure of thier governing bodies and have come back stronger, hopefully skiing can do the same

I have an idea about this, and tbh haven't read through this whole thread so maybe someone mentioned something similar. It looks like what Chemmy really needs is a major backer, a big name brand or company to support her. Not to say getting money this way isn't a good idea or helpful, I don't mean that at all.
BUT what a company wants to see is that their brand name will get seen as they don't sponser people out of the goodness of their hearts, they do it as advertising. We could all do our part I think to help this by either signing up to the facebook page for Chemmy with the most people already signed up, or create an offical page for her. Facebook let you create a page for a public figure and you this can be done official, not just like Chemmys own page as a person, but something a bit more offical. Also this will mean you have fans I think instead of friends and the limit is higher, I think they still have a limit of 5000 for us general public types!
Not an amazing idea, but I think if we could all join, get our friends, and other randoms to join up this would show a big backer that there sponsership would reach lots of people. Twitter is another good one, companys with good marketing would see the value in that.....
What do you think

100% to Chemmy and a new dummy for admin as he seems to have spat his last one out. Just been reading some of the comments and 100% agree about the poor updates. Cannot understand for 1 second why admin could post on the EOSB bash thread and not here . Maybe to much money to be made from the EOSB thingy for this to be a priority? Anyone please give Chemmy 100% and see y'all in a few months.

My suggest woudl be to give it all to Chemmy, and suggest that she donates a sensible part amount to the rest of the team in some practical way that she sees fit.

ph, It's actually the GB ski team and yes there are a number of others in it. Chemmy is the only female racing World Cup, which is why everyone knows her.
There are a number of guys in the GB senior team - Ed Drake ranked 48th in the world for Super G.
Douggie Crawford ranked inside the top 150 in the world for both Downhill (141) & Super G (139).
Dave Ryding (129) & Noel Baxter (111) both inside the top 150 for Slalom.
TJ Baldwin inside the top 150 for Super combined (128) (He is still a junior at the moment too)
There is also Pam Thorburn who is inside the top 150 in both Downhill (116) & Super G (137).
Some were at the Olympics and have also raced at World Cup level. All of them race a lot of the Europa Cup & Nor-Am Cup races which can be just as tough as World Cup.
All of them need just as much funding as Chemmy too.

Plugboy, I watched as much of the Olympics as I could. The only name from your list I recognize is Ed Drake.
From that scientific calculation I deduct that Ed Drake can have 10 %.

Please give my £10 to Chemmy. I think the facebook page thing is a great idea, they usually have a good effect so I reckon something like 'save Chemmy Alcotts skiing career' would send the message out! If one could be set up I know a number of people who would join and spread the word
