Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Wear The Fox Hat, I once made the mistake of skiing at the top of the Jungfrau in mid summer for most of a day, about half the surface of my face pealed of within the week ! Now that's sunburn, it's also why I reccomend a minimum of SPF 25 suncream for fellow skiers even in the winter Cool

I vote for cold and lots of snow now!!!!!!!!!! (for a nice solid base, which judging by reports from a recently returned (well known to Telford_Mike, not you Mike) dry slope instructor, the area is lacking at present), followed by a nice top up dump, once a week for the next 3 weeks, which will get things just right for my arrival in the village (not that I'm being selfish). Evil or Very Mad Twisted Evil

D G Orf, Telford_Mike, AdrianV and I (plus a few drunken friends, the same crew you met last year in the bar at the Silberhorn, plus a couple, less one american) are in Wengen from 29th Jan for a week. We were planning on doing the DHO down hill race on the Tuesday, but Telford_Mike tells me were doing the DHO GS on Wednesday instead now or as well. Either way, I think my wife is increasing the life insurance in hope!!!!

Brian T, there was about 2" fell last Tuesday.
The main pitch of Oh God was roped off - you were supposed to ski off to the right, over near the railway. The rope is high enough to tuck and go under it.
Conditions on it on Monday were good. By Thursday, they were a little less friendly- a bit crusty on top.

Black Rock was also closed, and conditions on it were not as good. Or, to put it another way, I need to get a core shot repaired, or else seriously reduce the sale price of my 3Vs.

Could be up to 2 inches of snow tomorrow but not more, the long term forecast for the last week of the month still looks good for heavy snow but things can change, keeping my fingers well and truly crossed for the next week Madeye-Smiley

I wouldn't bother visiting Murren Thou unless its after mid March until the cablecar is fixed. The snow base on the other major lift areas (Schilgrat & Winteregg) is poor with large bare patches popping up all over the place and even with the snow cannons working all night aswell as snow falling they still appeared.

My skis got scratched bigtime and i loved the long Q's.

We are meant to be returning In February but we can't decide now.

D G Orf, i have loads of pictures/movie clips so shout when you will be updating your site

Right then, the forecast for Wengen later this week is optimistic, with a little bit of luck snow will start to fall on Wednesday with the heaviest snowfalls late on Wednesday or early on Thursday, up to 45cm of fresh snow could fall this week but it may end up being closer to 30cm with a significant drop in temperature forecast forecast for the very end of next week, looking ahead to the following week up to 60cm of snow with temperatures rarely above freezing and frequently down below -5 are forecast so wrap up warm Cool

I needs it, looking at the Slalom and Down Hill coverage on Eurosport. There was all together too much green visible, especially down the sides of the slalon course.

Okay, just made it back. All three areas are in need of snow. We had a top up on Wed night which has helped a lot, but pretty much all pistes could do with some more.

First area was probably the best overall. The black run from First to Egg and the blue run into Grindelwald were the only ones shut - both the other runs to resort were open and skiable.

Manlichen/KS - Blackrock and Oh God were shut, everything else open. The run down to innerwengen had been killed by the masses skiing down to watch the race.

Murren - the schiltgrat area is struggling very badly for snow, but the winteregg runs are still in good condition.

Updated forecast

Snow now definately likely towards Tuesday afternoon or evening, a rapid drop in temperature is also likely to occur in the next 24 hours as the winds move round to the north, also anticipated is an increase in wind speed with 30 to 50 knot winds forecast for the foreseeable future.

Chances are still good that between 30 and 50cm of snow will fall in the next week but the higher winds may cause some areas to be left bare of snow

Ok there are 15cm's of snow in the village today and it's started to snow tonight as I forecast 2 days ago, It looks like 10 or 15cm of snow should fall tonight but that could change a bit, Wednesday will probably have light snow all day, as long as it stays cold Thursday and Friday could deliver significant snowfalls of up to 50cm so with fingers firmly crossed we shall await the results

Well I'm on my way to Wengen tomorrow through the following week....it has been wonderful to see that some snow is coming down. Tried skiing with my casted hand this weekend and seemed not to have any problems. So if any snowheads are cruising about and see some woman with a black cast on her left hand and a long ponytail...that's me....Lisa. I have no idea if I'll see the internet once I leave home, but would be great to tip a glass with any friendly snowheads!

D G Orf, thanks again for your help on lodging info!
Annehillskiing, riverman, perhaps I'll see you there...but have a fantastic time!
Chris Brookes, Wear The Fox Hat, Thanks for the pictures! I'll be taking some as well and hopefully be worth sharing. Razz

Snow reports show anything from just 5cm of fresh snow right up to 30cm of fresh snow as having fallen last night, to be honest having looked at the pictures I would judge that about 10 cm fell in Wengen village last night looking through the cloud at the pictures from higher up I'd estimate about 15cm had fallen up at Kline Schidegg, today is unlikely to produce more than 5 cm of fresh snow all day, however Thursday looks like make or break day, currently the forecast estimates a slight increase in temperatures which could just result in Rain in Grindelwald and Wengen (though I don't think it will), if it all falls as snow however up to 45cm (18 inches for our US readers) is likely to fall over a 24 hour period from early Thursday AM till early Friday AM, Friday is likely to be overcast all day with light snow again no more than about 5cm, as we go into the weekend Saturday afternoon is likely to be the best weather with more snow on Sunday and Monday (possibly as much as 30cm) Tuesday and Wednesday look as if they will be overcast with further light snowfalls and cold temperatures, looking further into the next week and beyond Saturday again looks like having the best weather and I once again expect to arrive in Wengen on the Sunday in a blizzard, however temperatures will remain below freezing ensuring good snow for all. snowHead

See I told you all that I get snow in Wengen when I go there Cool
