Ian Hopkinson, David@traxvax, It's not going to happen guys, I've got too many friends out there
pollittcl, I start skiing 45 mins later than you (when the sun comes out ) but I finish an hour later, and though I have up to 1 hour for lunch plus getting back up the mountain if I have lunch at the top of the mountain I may only take 30 mins before getting back on the skis, so I ski for just as long if not longer, plus I go to bed 4 hours later ...... Stamina no problem, mind you I prefer the 5 course dinner at the Alpenrose to your choice of the sandwich, but to each their own I have to say you lot in the colonies do have 1 good idea when it comes to apres ski, hot-tubs ! Sadly few if any to be found in the mountains of Switzerland

pollittcl, well you could always take that European vacation in Wengen instead of having a couple of Weekends in the US, actually the 5 course meal is very good value I think it adds about 25 Swiss Francs a night to the cost of the bed + breakfast not bad really. By the way I work or used to work very long hours as well, Typically 8am to midnight is not uncommon when I have work on so I'm used to the hours

Aren't hot tubs just the artificial version though ? Not really my thing but I do know Lilian and Matt (the Archers) got one in the garden recently.

I seem to remember that there are a few hot tubs in St. Moritz - unfortunately I can't afford that level of hotel!

pollittcl, neither can I, mind you Wengen does have a nice Spa Hotel with lots of pools, sunrooms and so on which are available for non residents, however it's not quite the same is it

D G Orf, I keep telling myself that I could save up and stay somewhere really nice, but then there's always other stuff needed - If I hadn't bought the Jeep this year I could stay somewhere really nice. I'm just hoping that the hot tub at the cabin has been fixed - it hadn't been last week, and it's currently buried under 8 feet of snow, so I suppose they'll fix it if they manage to find it!

So, perhaps you two should arrange to ski in New Zealand in August?
|
|
|

Sorry 23 hours on a plane for my large 6ft frame is not my idea of heaven, though I'd love to visit New Zealand I'd have to wait till I can afford the time and have the money for a sea journey there

pollittcl, D G Orf, Saw your daily ski rituals above and I couldn’t resist this TRUE and first person observation of a snowboarder’s day:
10:30 Wake up, scratch @rse
10:35 Stretch and fart . . . loudly, reach for baccy tin, roll a stonky and light-up . . . all under the covers!
10:37 Leap out of bed wreathed in a fog of cotton and weed smoke and attempt to put out smoldering sheet with empty water battle. Receives assistance from father to achieve extinction.
10:40 – 10:50 Stand on balcony and share joint with mate, both dressed in socks, pants, fleece and beanie . . . claim it’s “f’ing cold out there” when they come back in.
11:30 Dressed and on first lift
11:40 Sat just over the crest of the first run having a fag
12:00 Looking for bar for lunch/breakfast
13:30 – 16:30 In the snowpark alternately sitting, smoking and bouncing off head, @rse, face, and eating snow
17:00 In bar
19:00 Still in bar
22:00 On dance floor
01:00 On floor (sleeping)
05:00 Thrown out of bar by cleaning crew
06:00 Wake father with loud cries of joy at seeing (and eating) last night’s congealed spag boll that they failed to come back to the apartment to eat the previous evening.
08:00 Finally have a shower!
08:30 Go to bed while father gets back on the hill
And that was just day one!

Cedric, Can't get to it to turn it on! The snow is 8 feet deep - Plus it has a very well insulated cover.

Funnily enough I've been to Christchurch dry ski slope this afternoon to pick up some odds and ends at that the ski shop there, Southampton's not very far for me to go, about 40 mins from here, Oh and I've been to Teddy Land as well, or almost, I've been up to the Schinegge Platte and seen the Alpine Garden there but I was a bit old for the Teddies

Terry Wells, I will arrange a trip to Xscape if and when I get to the UK. There's no point in combining it with Wimbledon - there's better coverage on the telly and, besides, it's still too far south for me - I tend to stay north of the Thames!
skanky, maybe D G Orf, will be lucky and find a stray teddy bear who wishes to ski? Or he could always take one from home and leave it there afterwards - there's something in the website that says you receive a surprise if you donate your 'beloved' bear, but I can't see any one donating a 'beloved' bear - too many small childern would be in tears! (and possibly more than a few adults .

pollittcl, but it's a better place for a Teddy than abandoned in the corner of the room.
D G Orf, we had two young kids in tow. Managed to pretty much cover the Alpine garden first though.
