Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Wanted - Skiing companion for winter sports

Poster: A snowHead
admin, correction California is a hell of a long way from the South Coast of England, my overnight trip by train to Switzerland probably takes less time than the journey from here to California by Jet !

Anyway I've booked my stay in Wengen and got the tickets for the train (First Class no less ) Cool

Besides pollittcl, looks a bit hectic to me, I prefer something like:
7.30 get up
8.00 Have breakfast
9.00 get train up mountain
9.30 start skiing
12.30 lunch
1.30 more skiing
4.30 ski back to hotel
5.30 walk up to village and DHO hut for a drink or two
6.30 walk back to hotel
7.00 Dinner
Possibly go back to the village for a movie or read a book
11.00-12-00 hit the bed depending on what else is happening

Ian Hopkinson, David@traxvax, It's not going to happen guys, I've got too many friends out there Laughing

pollittcl, I start skiing 45 mins later than you (when the sun comes out snowHead ) but I finish an hour later, and though I have up to 1 hour for lunch plus getting back up the mountain if I have lunch at the top of the mountain I may only take 30 mins before getting back on the skis, so I ski for just as long if not longer, plus I go to bed 4 hours later ...... Stamina no problem, mind you I prefer the 5 course dinner at the Alpenrose to your choice of the sandwich, but to each their own wink I have to say you lot in the colonies do have 1 good idea when it comes to apres ski, hot-tubs ! Sadly few if any to be found in the mountains of Switzerland Blush

D G Orf, I suppose I'd do the 5 course meal too, if I was on holiday - sadly I can't afford it every weekend, so the sandwich is often an indicator of the prevailing economic climate! - which also the reason I don't go out and drink much either , but then I'd rather be able to ski, than afford good meals all the time. And I go to bed early because I work long hours, so by weekend I'm shattered, but I still want to ski, which leaves me more exhausted .....but I love it! snowHead (Iget the feeling I'm not going to win on this one! Very Happy )

pollittcl, well you could always take that European vacation in Wengen instead of having a couple of Weekends in the US, actually the 5 course meal is very good value I think it adds about 25 Swiss Francs a night to the cost of the bed + breakfast not bad really. By the way I work or used to work very long hours as well, Typically 8am to midnight is not uncommon when I have work on so I'm used to the hours

Hmmm, two weeks in Europe vs every weekend in the US plus any extra days I can manage (like a week in February and another in March)- where my skiing is already paid for, and I don't pay for accomodation. Sorry, I don't think Wengen can compete this year! Very Happy Very Happy (Did you notice my location?! Smile )

Puzzled Puzzled Really ? You need to visit other mountains I think, for example Leukerbad is renowned (apparently not widely Very Happy ) for its thermal springs. I know quite a few people who only visit for the thermals and not for skiing at all.

Aren't hot tubs just the artificial version though ? Not really my thing but I do know Lilian and Matt (the Archers) got one in the garden recently.

D G Orf, I keep telling myself that I could save up and stay somewhere really nice, but then there's always other stuff needed - If I hadn't bought the Jeep this year I could stay somewhere really nice. I'm just hoping that the hot tub at the cabin has been fixed - it hadn't been last week, and it's currently buried under 8 feet of snow, so I suppose they'll fix it if they manage to find it! Very Happy

DG. Wengen Swengen! Smile This is your destiny! Go west and ski with pollittcl (assuming she (?) is actually female of course wink ). Naturally you may have to keep her awake beyond 8.00 pm, in the proper European tradition, but then she won't need to wake at 2 am. DG should go to America and ski with pollittcl! Have an adventure! Europe will forgive you! You can always go to Wengen later! Cool

pollittcl, D G Orf, Saw your daily ski rituals above and I couldn’t resist this TRUE and first person observation of a snowboarder’s day:

10:30 Wake up, scratch @rse
10:35 Stretch and fart . . . loudly, reach for baccy tin, roll a stonky and light-up . . . all under the covers!
10:37 Leap out of bed wreathed in a fog of cotton and weed smoke and attempt to put out smoldering sheet with empty water battle. Receives assistance from father to achieve extinction.
10:40 – 10:50 Stand on balcony and share joint with mate, both dressed in socks, pants, fleece and beanie . . . claim it’s “f’ing cold out there” when they come back in.
11:30 Dressed and on first lift
11:40 Sat just over the crest of the first run having a fag
12:00 Looking for bar for lunch/breakfast
13:30 – 16:30 In the snowpark alternately sitting, smoking and bouncing off head, @rse, face, and eating snow
17:00 In bar
19:00 Still in bar
22:00 On dance floor
01:00 On floor (sleeping)
05:00 Thrown out of bar by cleaning crew
06:00 Wake father with loud cries of joy at seeing (and eating) last night’s congealed spag boll that they failed to come back to the apartment to eat the previous evening.
08:00 Finally have a shower!
08:30 Go to bed while father gets back on the hill

And that was just day one!

Terry Wells, now why would I make a trip to Southampton to ski on a dry slope? Confused Very Happy - I'd consider Castleford Xcape though, but probably not until the middle of Summer! (I don't think I've ever been to Southampton - it's too far south!!! Very Happy Very Happy )

This all still leaves D G Orf, with no ski companion - I suppose he could always take a teddy bear!

Apart from ski practice probably no particularly good reason to go there at all, with the possible exception of meeting DG – but, on reflection, perhaps it’s too far west for him. Laughing

Still, perhaps you should arrange a Snowheads trip to Xcape for July? You might combine it with a trip to watch tennis at Wimbledon. Smile

Funnily enough I've been to Christchurch dry ski slope this afternoon to pick up some odds and ends at that the ski shop there, Southampton's not very far for me to go, about 40 mins from here, Oh and I've been to Teddy Land as well, or almost, I've been up to the Schinegge Platte and seen the Alpine Garden there but I was a bit old for the Teddies

Terry Wells, I will arrange a trip to Xscape if and when I get to the UK. There's no point in combining it with Wimbledon - there's better coverage on the telly and, besides, it's still too far south for me - I tend to stay north of the Thames!

skanky, maybe D G Orf, will be lucky and find a stray teddy bear who wishes to ski? Or he could always take one from home and leave it there afterwards - there's something in the website that says you receive a surprise if you donate your 'beloved' bear, but I can't see any one donating a 'beloved' bear - too many small childern would be in tears! (and possibly more than a few adults Puzzled .

You're never too old for a Teddy! - have you looked in all the shops around Valentine's day?! Very Happy Actually they can be a serious business - my old boss built special climate controlled display cases for his collection, but then he had spent upwards of $1000 for most of them, and I belive one was $30,000! pollittcl, but it's a better place for a Teddy than abandoned in the corner of the room.

D G Orf, we had two young kids in tow. Managed to pretty much cover the Alpine garden first though.
