Don't reckon it's Portillo but maybe around Valle Nevado?

Wikipedia (never wrong or open to interpretation) puts Greenland and Iceland surprisingly on different continents - Iceland: Europe and Greenland: North America.

Interesting! Mind you given that Iceland obviously sits on a fault line given all the volcanic/geothermal activity there that does make sense (in a geophysics way).
Wrong continent either way...!! |
I guess that’s right that the fault lines “define” the continents and spots like Iceland, Philippines, Indonesia and Japan sit on them smouldering away - fantastic!
@offpisteskiing: no guesses to offer but i think we’re going to end up in South America

Ah that sounds like a clue. In that case I am going to guess the Atlas Mountains. Perhaps Oukaimeden.

@offpisteskiing, Morocco? Mt Toubkal?

Ah, now we are getting there - this is the Clochetons couloir - photo taken from part way up Toubkal - @Arno, gets the prize for accuracy!!

Nicely exotic @offpisteskiing!
Would you say that was good, normal or poor snow cover for that region?

If you can name the line, that's obviously v good but I may accept the general area if that's too difficult

@Grinning, thought I would go a bit left-field for that one
Average 'good' conditions... We were lucky with our timing - going in via Marrakesh we met a French team coming out who had had a terrible week - not much snow at the start then rain & snow which in the meantime turned to snow to down low and good ocnditions for us as the weather then cleared for most of our time there... It's a 'roll of the dice' or a 'last minute optimistic forecast' kind of place but if you get good conditions like we did it is amazing!

You know it makes sense.

@offpisteskiing, lucky team - it’s amazing the difference a few days can make. I can imagine the FR team returning giving the region a “don’t bother” rating!
@Arno, Banane, La Grave?

@Grinning, extremely similar, but not sure the rock on the left is quite right. and the entry looks too narrow..

@offpisteskiing, arguably not the sort of terrain most people would associate with this place (which is not obscure by any means)

@offpisteskiing, a clue - we've not had one in this continent before. A bit surprising - I had to check

@Arno, N America then at a rough continent-level guess..!
Without looking back memory says you have posted Super C so that covers SAm...
Something around Whistler? (Never been but I know you have!).

Alaska, Tordrillo Mountains on the left side of Cody Townsend's line of the year?

@Charliee, ha - I wish!
@offpisteskiing, is close enough I think. It's called Wedge couloir and it's accessible from the Blackcomb Glacier gate with a bit of skinning and skiing

@snowball, depends which entrance you take - if you are dropping in further along from Foglietta summit it is less obvious (also depends which exit from the upper face you are aiming for).

I think I've entered in 3 different places at the top, as well as just skiing around the side. However many descents were quite some time ago.

@BobinCH, lots of places - I've done very little in Austria, never been to Dolomites. Irbis keeps trying to organise a trip to Romania for skiing. After some of the Cody Townsend vids, I'd like to get properly fit and do some touring in the Eastern Sierra.
