Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

@jbob, cheers! I certainly timed it to perfection. Flew in Sat night, got pissed all afternoon at GM closing party and still made it to first bin on Monday Laughing Laughing I actually wasn't feeling too comfortable with the exposure, but I guess that's to be expected considering it's the only real steep skiing I've done all season. Been trying to drop that line for a while so pretty pleased to have got it in such good conditions.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

@Fergus, I’ve looked down it from the Grand Envers and that was enough. It looked like good cover on the Instagram vid, what was the ab like. I’m guessing you didn’t hang around much for photos.
I think that must be the best tick I’ve seen on Snowheads.

We abseiled in at the top (from the backside of the first pitch of the Grand Envers) as it was a bit bare. Probably could have 'dry'skied' but rope seemed more sensible. Getting into the couloir was 2 x 60m rappels. We also did a short rap at the bottom to cross some rocks - again it could have been skied but that would have required 100% commitment to straight-line and air the rocks (I saw on insta that someone used this method the other day!)

Would defo do it again - would be nice to open it up and get freshies in the couloir. Don't think I'd ever fancy going in from the Tournier Spur though...that's a bit too spicy for me!

@Fergus, looks amazing, and I love the idea of getting fresh snow like that so late in the season. Always wondered when I see people make ski abseils, is there in-situ gear for these abseils? Or are you losing gear each time you abseil? Or is there normally a nice rock that you can put the rope around and not use any gear?

In Chamonix, on all but the most rarely skied descents, there is usually some existing tat which can be used for anchor points. It's obviously prudent to be able build your own anchors if necessary, and it's good practice to replace stuff if you think it's looking a bit worn. Most people carry slings, mallions, a few meters of cord etc plus ice screws for that purpose, and in such a situation you'd need to leave gear behind.

Surprised they don’t put a whacking great eco bolt in caving style, but perhaps there are a few ethics in chamonix and perhaps issues around burial by deep snow ?

Good progress at Flegere. Should be finished before the 19/20 season starts.
