@letsgetpiste, the missus got me a suunto wrist top computer for a birthday a few years ago. That's what the Box said anyway. Reliable Instrument that gives speed, track, alti, compass, etc and an export facility if you want it to doodle over google maps. You can select sample time from 1 second to 1 minute. They even fixed it for me when the strap broke.
I'm not an expert and have no experience of the phone apps but it's a fun bit of kit to reflect your day imo, think it comes at a price tho.

Anyone ever used the Crystal app? I put it on my phone as it's good for having piste maps of numerous resorts (rather than just getting a resort specific one) and it actually seems to have a reasonable amount of other information too. I've never bothered with the ski tracking thing but seems it comes with one.

@SnoodyMcFlude, I've used it in Sauze and it was good for the resort info and piste maps, but never clocked it as having a tracker! Just look at it now
Doesn't seem to be working very well for three valleys... (maps etc...)

Horrible icey snow falling, whiteout at times, turned into a snowman a few times on the lifts - finished for today.
Managed a powder run down into courchevel down the side of loze and then down jantzen first thing which was fun

clouds are quite low now, and there's a bit of rain at 1400m
Had quite a lot of snow up to now though, so not too worried about a bit of rain.

breeze is quite strong too so not sure how much of the snow will actually stick around on the pistes themselves

Difficult day snowing medium heavy in les menuires from morning very pleasant piste and side piste but no visability. Links were tenuous from the start so couldn't make it to trees and they were closed by 12. Was raining at 2000m by lunch time. Pistes and off piste soggy by afternoon. Absolutely soaked after a days skiing - never experienced that before.
Hopefully the rain was snow up higher and the wind doesn't whip it away. Will be accumulations of powder somewhere if you could see it and it was safe to ski it. Hoping to do esf off piste tomorrow if it runs and will report back if it does.

It snowed most of the morning down to Moutiers then it turned to icy rain. The roads were a nightmare especially for anyone without winter tyres. Windy too! More snow on the way!

To anyone who's currently on the ground, how's it looking in the three valleys today? There look to be quite a few of the lifts shut from the snow reports. Is this due to wind/avalanche risk or something else?

Today's theme was rain, snow was any thing from 1900m to 2200 before it changed from rain.
Couldn't get high due to bad visibility although there was a lot of avalanche control going on this morning. 3v links from courchevel to meribel were closed.
Still made the most of it, pistes weren't busy. Glad I had 20k clothing only my gloves were soaked through.
Pistes conditions generally still good, some of the high traffic areas have worn down but in c1850 there are lots of mounds of cannon snow ready to be used. Piste of the day folyeres

"Nicely" is the important thing! I don't want a repeat of Christmas week.

Yeah it's going to drop in temps and another 7 days of snow to come.
I am out here again at easter so the snow isn't going to disappear to after then.

Although it was very wet, we were out until 16.00 and actually had a good day around Meribel. Visibility difficult high up, but very few people about. Gloves are soaked!
Snow better than you would think given the rain and the high FL. it's been a very good week all in all.

Difficult to say where the snow / rain line was today. Certainly raining to 2300 in les menuires this morning. Also experienced light rain, or at least snow that wouldn't stick at home, at 3000 meters at one point. But also medium heavy snow from top to bottom of grand fond lift at other points. Best snow I found probably off there. But also difficult to separate perception of snow quality from how well you were skiing in the zero vis conditions at any given time.
Worst run of day was rhodos, hard pack, invisible moguls and a schlep out at the end to boot. Was very difficult to ski most reds as they were totally mogulled and chopped to bits and zero vis. To be honest they felt like older than one day moguls so not sure if some stuff got pisted last night. Best approach was to aim for the blues. Annoying because I'm sure the reds would have been beautiful without the panic turns wrecking them (though hard to blame any one for that in these conditions).
Got at least 2 minutes of side piste in, powder there for sure but felt heavier than I thought it would be. I've no doubt a combination of local knowledge and visability would lead to good powder. Avalanche risk 4 today so next to no one off piste.
Re future conditions I imagine it'll be very good. Tonnes of snow and apparently more to come, with much colder temps? The first blue bird day after all that will be a festival of snow. But seeing brown patches throughout the lower resort runs at 2000m, in january, after about a meter of fresh snow in a week? Unbelievable.

Surprisingly good skiing today given the weather today. Piste du jour was Mouflon which was in lovely condition. Skied until 3pm, far longer than I thought I would. Very windy at the top lifts so decided to stay in our valley. The Avalanche guys started detonating at 4am, the whole house was shaking! Quite a few lifts struggling with the gusts of wind today. Snow forecast for the next week.

Well. There seems to be a lot of doom and gloom and reports of rain and soggy resorts! The webcams around VT still look very white and I'm thinking it's kept itself above the snowline.
What are the people on the ground saying?

Raining on the lower slopes.good snow higher up, not great visibility. It might be a bit soggy in resort but that's a good sign to make the most of the vin chaud and hot chocolate. Spent a couple of hours drying out yesterday in Les Cretes in Meribel. Best vin chaud with Myrtilles ever. Snow was building up outside the windows, food was rustic, simple and good. Great atmosphere. What's not to love?

Great day today. Good light on piste between les menuires and val thorens before lunch. Pistes above 2500 in val thorens more or less perfect condition. Soft grippy snow. Side piste heavier than I thought but still passable fun. Around lunch it started snowing and snowed medium to hard for rest of day. Beautiful accumulations of 10 - 20 cm powder on pistes by the time I left, particularly blues, off piste also freshened up. Snow felt a lot lighter than previous offerings.had some lovely hypnotic soft slow runs down around grand fond and moraine.
Pistes above les menuires not so nice on way back but am driving back to geneva now and snowing way down below town so that should improve things.snow / rain line just passed at St Martin.
Should think conditions will be excellent save for flat light and closures due to avalanche risk. Anyone coming out enjoy!

Not out till the 30th, so... @benburton83, @CourchGal, &@t40ora... you had better leave some snow for me!
It's been great having some first hand reports for the last week but it looks like we're relying on webcams this week! It looks very busy around the base stations but its right on the turn around days so a lot of the lessons are taking place on the nursery slopes. Reports are still pretty solid of snowfall for the next week which could drop another metre or so which will give the pistes and good top up before the temperatures drop dramatically.
