When practice is canceled do the racers get to go skiing in the powder, or do their coaches not allow it?
|
|
|
|
|
|
No the racers aren't allowed to enjoy the powder.
Who would be a racer?
I hope it keeps dumping because I don't like icy pistes I prefer knee deep powder and I'll be there on Sunday.
I was in Val d'isere before Xmas and watched the ladies skiing the old Men's Downhill. How can such a small lady like Lara Gut (she won the event) ski that fast?

Harsh (on the racers I mean).
I think you are in luck, there's plenty of dumping in the near future according to Bergfex.

Start dropped to the Super-G start I've been told on the ticker, due to the massive amount of snow that has fallen in the past 48 hours. Lizzie Gorgl has dropped out due to the lack of form and also practice. She had a nightmare of a training run on Thursday plus her form is off, so she has voluntarily stood down to avoid injury I suspect. The World Championships are in 3 weeks and she wants to be fit for them.

Great conditions at St Anton today!
We did all sorts of off-piste bits in broken power, sometimes fresh, 40cm deep mostly. Skiing some of the couloirs off the Schinlder and the open fields from the Kapall, and wide to skiers left from the Rendl (with the long walk back up, but worth it!)
Although it was often tracked out, there were still bits of fresh pow 20-40cm deep.
At 16:00 it was snowing lightly on the Rendl.
We were in a guided group with Boris Debeaune & Damien Albert (guides from France, La Grave - L2A area.)
Now to put some ice on my poor knees!
Ciao,
Bob

Back home after 3 days in the Arlberg. Saturday especially was very, very nice. Spend the day in Lech - nobody there to ride the untracked powder under a blue sky. Loved it!
Some more snow expected during the week, conditions are very good and the towns are quiet. Nice!

Well here's the word from St Anton: F A N T A S T I C !!!
We did the NW face off the Valluga, guided by the French Guide Boris Debeaune from La Grave, France, and it was perfect! The knife edge ridge traverse was touchy for an old man like me, but the 40+cm of powder in the couloir made up for that high heart rate moment! Just fabulous powder, some tracks, and now lots more as we were 16 skiing! That was just what the doctor ordered for my knees and thighs which were on fire yesterday evening!
The rest of the day was filled with powder all over the Stuben area, but mostly tracked, except for one couloir that we did in thick fog, far to skier's left.
The day ended with some more powder, then a long walk out down to the cross country track and a cool bar that we know well.
A short taxi back to St Anton just in time for a sauna and this report before dinner!
Ciao,
Bob

Markymark29, will definitely be able to make it over for a day when you're in Anton, btw - if Valluga Nord is in condition probably one of the days with Torben, if that's still cool?
