VolklAttivaS5, I'm hoping (weather permitting) to get there on Saturday - looks like it will be epic snow - if we can get on to it !

deerman, I think it's going to be clear on Monday at least (and very cold I think). I'm on a Snoworks course all day everyday except the following Saturday so I'm going where they go really
Who are you going with?

Sick of snow and closed pistes (only a handful open today and it hasn't even snowed properly yet), and it's going to be worse tomorrow! Ghastly queues, even worse visibility all day.
As there's only a smidgen of fresh snow about (unless I'm much mistaken) I've no idea why everything was shut today.

The weather reports show strong winds - gusting up to 95kmh on Galzig, so I guess that would explain the closures.
Looks like there was more open at Lech, worth getting the bus tomorrow I'd say (if the road is open of course...).

VolklAttivaS5, I'm flying out with Thomson's (and getting their transport to St Anton), but arranged a chalet myself. It's dutch owned, and unfortunately in St Jacob, but I was struggling to find accommodation from Saturday - Saturday.

deerman, oh right. I have booked my own flight from Manchester to Zurich, then using the Arlberg Express coach to get there, and have sorted out a very good value B&B in St Anton itself but a 10 min walk to the lifts. That's ok with me because I quite like a walk first thing, I will keep my skis and boots at the lifts anyway because the dryers are awesome (well they are in the Alber check in-that's the only one I've ever tried).
I am flying out with a pal and we will be on the course obviously all day but if you fancy meeting for a beer one evening (we will be out to get food anyway I expect) then PM me and we can probably sort something out.

The Galzigbahn was open yesterday, but only the number 2 black run open from it which seemed very peculiar. It was pretty foul at the top all day long, wind blowing powder everywhere, reducing visibility to nil - parts of the slope had grass showing through.
Nassereinbahn (sp?) had queues of 30+ minutes.
Rendlbahn was mostly OK, but I was rather nervous of finding huge queues at the bottom of the two-man chairs so didn't go that way.
Not sure going to Lech today when 22cm of snow is forecast by the end of skiing, and a further 26 later is a good idea...
Anyway, snowing now at resort level.

The weather today is as stanton already has warned about going to be very severe and extreme, especially late afternoon and tonight.
We are expecting 1m of snow for the next 24-36 hours, with very strong winds up to gale force tonight.
The snow will continue tomorrow Friday and Saturday you can expect a little sun before the next storm hits us Saturday night to Sunday, looks like a mixture of sun and snow next week.
Expect most of the area to be closed after midday today and tomorrow morning lifts will probably be opening late due to avalanche work.

Anyone thninking of going to Lech or Zurs to ski be prepared to be cutoff or stranded there. It is very likely the Flexenpass & ArlbergPass will be closed later.

Good point. That would be an expensive night (or a very cold one).
Seriously, if you did get stranded on that side are there any places to stay that don't cost a fortune?

Stuben is cheap if you get stranded there. The Olympic (?) Gasthof beside the Oberlech cable car looked fairly reasonable from memory

It is all well rehersed by the the Gemeinde (City Council). Anyone without a room gets put up in the Sports Hall & Hotels for Free. The same for people caught in St Christoph or St Anton. If your real lucky you may even get a room in The Arlberg Hospiz !
|
Now there's a thought...
Where did you get that graphic from by the way, looks very interesting. Might have to get my wife to help me read it (my German skills run out when it's not a restaurant menu).

Very similar to yesterday really, except the snow was falling more quickly! Snow was great for skiing, and you could find bits of piste with 6 inches of fresh powder. And bits of piste with no snow at all. Deposited in the next county. Meanwhile the weather seems to be having a bit of a break at the moment. However we're looking out for the military...

We got "stuck" in Lech one afternoon, about 2 or 3 years ago, when the Arlbergpass closed. Finished up catching the Post bus to Langen and train back to StA. Obviously that option is not available if the Flexenpass is closed.

First blast of the morning just happened. I see Ulmerhutte now recording 392 (actually, 393 now). Compared to 320 24 hours ago.
Another blast, and the sky lit up orange just before we heard it!

No skiing today, at least not off-piste way to much snow and much more expected today, stay on the piste today whatever will open, drink some chocholate, go to the sauna and relaxe, maybe tomorrow will be a bit beter.
Avalanche danger is too high.

The road from Stuben is closed, and Lech and Zürs are is also out of reach, that means the Flexenpass is closed, just stay in your hotel and have some fun To be honest, as it looks like now, Tuesday will be the next day where more lifts are going to open, tomorrow possible some, but then another storm is coming in. Fore sure the Fang lift is possible going to open, but that will be it, and of course the poma lifts down at the bottom - they are open now.

Perhaps Monday, being the first day of an off-piste course I'm doing, will largely be devoted to transceiver practice - in the high street!

Just reading the forum here. I'm due to arrive in St.Anton from Innsbruck airport Saturday evening. Skiing from Sunday for 6 days. Not purchased my lift pass yet. What's going on there? Seems like the snow is that bad everything is closed and maybe for a few days. Really worried now. Can someone explain in simple terms to us as an outsider. I'm gutted at the moment. Worried the transfer coach may not be able to get in now, or worst still the plane at the airport.

Well to any of you out there on the Snoworks backcountry course, see you on Monday (somewhere), and yes we always do transceiver works the first day, and you will be having half a day with me or Bruno and another half day with Lee or Mike. Tuesday should be nice with some sun, but already tomorrow will bring some clearing so they should be able to do some avalanche works and open up some of the runs.
