Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

I love it, just wish I was on holiday to make the most of it. The "Gorm" was wicked this Saturday. Got up on the first train and laid my first ever fresh tracks down the white lady. Tentative plans for Fort William this weekend, but not sure they will be able to match the snow conditions at the "Gorm."

Snowbuzz, I don't think you need to be on holiday. Kelvingrove park is looking pretty attractive Laughing

wondering if any of the Scottish back country guys could give me any help.

One of my friends who filmed the Mountain bike world cup circuit this year is wanting to make a ski film in the winter whilst he can't film MTB, so he's contacted me about filming a segment in the Scottish back country, he's left it down to me to sort the locations. Obviously I've said Nevis and Glencoe but I'm looking for a bit of tree skiing, not anything huge but just something which would add a bit of contrast to the big mountain footage, any help and guidance would be much appreciated.

milnerhome, next time you're driving down the ski road from the Gorm, check out the hill opposite - Meall a Buachaille, there's some nice tree lines possible back down (bottom half or so of the hill towards glenmore lodge. Also further in along there towards ryvoan pass (along the walking trail passed glenmore lodge), the freeskiing.co.uk dudes did some (much) steeper tree stuff last year - think there were some pics published somewhere. A few possibilities in and around there, also maybe over towards glenfeshie, or for shots of "big mountain" with forest beyond, the slopes around glen/loch einich could be good.
Thinking about it, there could be a couple of opportunities in the lecht vicinity also. i'm sure there are plenty of others more off the beaten track

Milnerhome, in good conditions like last year, there's some good tree skiing to be had between the car parks at Cairngorm Ski Area down through the forest to Glenmore and Loch Morlich. Likewise, in the Braemar area, there's also some fun to be had in the trees just above the East side of the road as you arrive in the village from Glenshee.

Hope the trees fill in for you. However, at this point, i'm just hoping for regular snowfall above 2000ft, any tree skiing/boarding would be a nice bonus!

Winterhighland, was thinking that but unless the snow is over the various stiles on the logging road (not long now I reckon!) then he must've come straight down the ski road!!! brilliant whichever Toofy Grin

Winterhighland, not sure if you've mentioned this here but I spotted your announcement on Winterhighland with regards the Monday staff training and closure at Cairngorm as well as ski hire closure on the Friday, might be useful for folk here too so I'll repeat it, from the Cairngorm website:
Quote:
Friday 3rd December: Ski Hire will be closed for technical staff training on Friday all day. Please hire in the village. Hire will re - open on Saturday 4th Dec.
Monday 6th December: CairnGorm Mountain facilities will be closed for pre season staff training. Normal operations will resume on Tuesday 7th.

Phenomenal snow @ Cairngorm today. Acres of untouched powder to be found & my legs are shot after making endless fresh tracks between the Fiacaill Traverse & the ZigZags. East Lady was a beauty too but more crust there. Lots of windslab on the Coronation Wall with little cracks & sloughing as you traverse high from Ptarmigan so only went the once.

It really is ski anywhere there just now.

Getting to Aviemore & back was a bit of a task though. Smile

The cold killed my camera battery so not many photos ...

Glenshee was at last open from the south today. Fine conditions, not all lifts open but they are working round them with the aim of having all running at the weekend.

Not sure if it's still the case, but Glenshee used to sit just to the north of a council boundary. The main A93 came up through Tayside but the ski centre was just across the border in Grampian so that's where they paid their rates. The enthusiasm to clear the road was somewhat more marked from the north than the south. rolling eyes
