We arrived on the 23rd and wondered where the snow was! Staying at Camping Les Lanchettes, put up our awning, went to bed to the sound of rain and awoke to the sight of one collapsed awning (the snow was a little too heavy!)
Anyway, plenty of snow now and looking forward to my first day skiing tomorrow (26th) I am having lessons with ESF (be gentle with me) so wish me luck!
Lovely covering of snow, after seeing the chaos throughout Europe, I'm glad we set off early and got here early!
Cheers,
Rob

Snow has dwindled to almost nothing now, just a little bit of sparkly drizzle. Not a bad effort though, probably close to 30cm of snow in the last 24 hours. Forecast is for brighter conditions tomorrow, so should be a lovely day
I leave for les arcs (staying in 1800) tue morning, any snowheads want anything from the UK bringing out, or fancy a meet up for skiing and apres? Friends are working the season there so will have some time to fill while they work
The start of N&I Week* sees the pistes much busier today than they were last week, but not much in the way of lift queues and it's fairly easy to find quieter slopes by avoiding the main runs nearest the4 villages. Lots of hardpack snow on the buy pistes, but good conditions elsewhere. It's been overcast since mid-morning, so feels a bit colder than the -5 degrees it's been at 1800m.

Oi I resemble that.
According to pisteurs, 20,000 in the resort this week (and with only 30 -40 accidents a day... "not good, because people getting hurt, but not bad, as it is so few").
Cold. Actually, bloody cold. Pistes hard. Coverage OK, but wouldn't hurt to have more. Unlikely this week tho'.
More later, off to fullfil political roles.

Wow - 2 skiers per thousand stills looks high - I wonder what he pisteurs consider high!?

Well yes, but, to be fair, not at all bad. There's plenty of untracked fresh stuff if you know where to go... and as we did today, take a few chances - we found some lovely stuff.
Went to LP today, wish I knew the resort as well as I do LA..
So... no other snowheads about then???
And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

I've skied here for 9 seasons and still find new places, routes, shortcuts, etc etc

Warmer today (-2 at 1800m at the moment) and overcast, with a bit of light snow in the air.

Fancy showing us some of them this season?
Today
Poor visability coupled with a little bit of snow and fairly cold temperatures ensured a mass exodus to the restaurants at about 12:30, seemed like service must have been very slow as everthing stayed quiet for quite some time. Went up Grand Col about then, no one skied down all the time we were in the lift. Refuge was bumpy but nice (;>).
Stayed mainly on piste today, or shall we say marked runs, as most of the blacks are now naturelle. The blacks are pretty quiet, Comborciere and the other leading in off the Cachette are closed, but the pisteurs aren't exactly stopping you going down them
Lower slopes ar getting patchy, Myrtilles was ferme half way down, often one of the first to suffer, as was coomes, although we skied coomes to the bottom and across the fields to the new lift. Font Blanc (think.. Arpette lift and turn left) was real good fun.. big bumps.
Bottom line is we've had a great Christmas, but now we need more snow.

Yes, it's a Contour HD. Still undecided about it as it can't really cope with bright sun on snow (everything gets very over-exposed so all details are completely burnt out). I was speaking to offpisteskiing this evening and he uses a the same helmetcam but with the addition of a circular polarising filter which makes the it much better in bright light conditions. I might try that.

Desperately poor visibility today, but did mean that we found la Ferme - no, not the one in Villaroger, but at the opposite end of the Arcs domain. Turn left at the new Parchey lift, and follow an ugly thin track and come across what appears to be two converted rooms, 2 log fires and a terrace. Note: not La Vache at the bottom of the lift, further to the far end of the piste map. Seats about 20 I guess, and service is naturally slow as each meal is cooked to order. But very pleasant, and Good VFM. (2nd note: French indoor smoking laws did not seem to be observed in the outer room).
Otherwise it was really a case of survival rather than unbridled enjoyment on the pistes today - albeit very few people out and about - most lifts we skied straight onto.
More politics for me this evening, with discussion on summer entertainment budgets, a bizzare BBQ option for arc1950, legal opinion on various statutes and laws relating to co-ownership associations, and the cost of running the cabriolet between Arc 1950 and Arc 2000 (and how little the bugs up the top are willing to pay).
Tomorrow I have a coupe of morning meetings, then lunch with the 2nd i/c of SMA, to discuss amongst other things the new Nirvanalps discount scheme for apartment owners (ha!). Just hope the weather is not a blue sky day...

Sunny and mild temperatures. Busy on most pistes, and 5-minute lift queues sometimes longer. On piste is now getting swept down to hardpack in many places. More snow or fewer skiers will help.

Hi all. Got back late Monday from an awesome week in Les Arcs. Most days we had entire pistes to ourselves! Plan Peisey especially was magical. Just such an amazing resort, we loved it even more than the first time we went. Probably wouldn't recommend the hotel du Golf as there were too many minor issues (although the food was very good) and not at Christmas - zero ambiance even for the French - no decorations or music or even a joyeux noel!) or Inghams, as there were a few major ones - like the coach not turning up to take us to the airport but we found lots of lovely places to eat and drink along our travels. We found Arcs 1800 deathly quiet (unless it picks up late at night even by French standards/later in the season?) but we had an amazing time skiing and the snow mostly very good.

Great, isn't it Glad you had fun
Jim W I'm interested in your discussions with the Nirvanalps people - we were very pleased with the service from them for our season passes, although they have only just arrived today, having been ordered way back in November!!
