Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Lizzard, I can imagine! It took Torquil 45 mins to get up from Bourg - and that's a local!!!

It snowed really very hard for a good bit this morning and then cleared up around midday. Although it was never wall to wall, we did see a fair bit of sunshine, and there was about 10-15cms of snow. Very Happy I heard, however, that there were big wnd crust 'plaques' and that the avvi danger is likely to be high tomorrow. The skiman who told me said he only skied onthe Vallons because he didn't want to risk anything steep. Skullie

Well it was a beautiful sunny day today, but just very, very cold. There was a stiff breeze on the Cretes and at the top of the Petite Aiguille chair, but it wasn't unpleasant in sheltered places. Mind you, I reembled a michelin man with the number of layers I had on! The students were cold though, and it looks like staying very cold at least until mid-week. When I got home it was really hot and I saw that in the sun the temp was up to 0! Laughing

I skied Posettes on the way down and had skied the green at the bottom of the resort (see pic) before. The snow was good, and there was some powder still left on the Posettes, but the last part was quite scratchy underfoot with bumps you couldn't see till you hit them. Shocked

Lovely day today. Just as cold as yesterday but without the wind, so it felt much warmer. Lovely snow, and the Valentin was fantastic en route for home. Rushing now to get MRI on my knee in Grenoble.... BobbleHat going well. Very Happy

fragy, yes thanks. Actually the last 2 weeks it's been loads better, and I felt a bit of a fraud there, but at least I now know that if it hurts it's just old age! rolling eyes No arthritis is the really good news. Very Happy

Bit of a slower than normal journey back as it was snowing all the way from Grenoble - fortunately not too hard. Betty had no trouble. Very Happy

fragy, wish I was that young! Weather across the valley in AdH very similar. I am a puzzle to the night staff in our chalet - skiers apparently are NEVER early risers! But he puts the kettle on for me and this morning the PC is awake too Cool . We are hoping to meet up with an intrepid party of L2A adventurers hopefully Wednesday if Bobblehat's feeling better - she was under the weather yesterday Sad

It was clear and sunny first thing, but quickly clouded over. The light remained good until midday though, and as poor Bobble Hat was unwell and didn't have her lesson I came down about then. I skied the top part of Posettes and then the bottom part of Valentin with lovely snow on both. Unfortunately the snow last night didn't amount to more than a pretty dusting, but it was a whole 5degs warmer first thing at -15. Shocked Very Happy

Butterfly, and my mates from Alpe d'Huez came over here on exchange. Have you skied Auris yet? We did it on Monday and it was excellent - sunny and sheltered from the hideous wind infesting the rest of the resort. And there is a Thai restaurant in the piste! But don't be tempted by La Fuma - I feel that completely vertical with waist-high moguls and trees sticking out may not be what you look for in a piste. Laughing

We had a smashing morning on La toura with great snow here and then bundled off as per Butterfly,'s post. I have to say that I agree with Lizzard,'s post the other day about the pisting in ADH. I could not believe the moguls on a blue to say nothing of the masses of out of control morons doing their best to knock poor Bobble Hat off her feet. Very Happy Still a nice day out.

I'm off for a couple of days (quick trip to UK), so might manage to post Sunday but not before then. Hopefully other local Snowheads will keep you updated.

BTW Butterfly, was going really well!

Nice snow this morning on the Cretes and also on the Valentin during my high speed descent - only to be followed by an even higher speed descent of the mountain and motorway to the airport! Very pleasant in Grenoble and snow visible for whoever was asking on another thread the other day! Weather in Bristol and Bath, damp and horrid. Very Happy

achilles, No - Betty (Ugly Betty) is R32's Subaru Forrester that they kindly lets me drive when they are absent.

I must apologise to the person who I disbelieved last year about the ability of their Forrester to drive out of my road in heavy snow. I have now seen the light - this is a serious bit of kit, and I have been very impressed with Betty's ability to go anywhere in any conditions!

Thank you both for the day out in Alpes D'huez.... but with no thanks to the morons on the blue moguls !! I knew I should have stayed with Butterfly,
Judith, next time you say a run is nice I'm not going ot believe you at all Laughing but it was really lovely to meet all of you and sorry for holding you up for so long. I don't think that snowboarder knew what had hit him by the time easiski, and the rest of you had stopped berating him !! wink

The drive down the mountain on saturday morning was interesting especially as a coach driver had decided that his wheels preferred the side of the mountain rather than the road..... then google directions sent us in the completley wrong direction, meaning that we were heading to Annecy rather than Lyons and Dijon. Arrived in Hotel at Arras 3 hours later than planned at 11pm Saturday night...... Shocked

bobblehat, glad to hear you made it OK. I did too. Straight from the airport, park, put the ski clothes on top of others and off to teach! Got home and slept nearly all afternoon and evening and night! Shocked Shocked Shocked I made the slight miscalculation of coming up the old Les Travers road. Lots of snow - no probs for Betty, but passed stuck girl en route and it took loads longer.

It was sunny and warm yesterday on the nursery slopes and is clear and not so cold this morning so will take the camera with me today (didn't have it yesterday obviously).

Butterfly, She forgives you (I think, but R32 had better confirm). Laughing

R32, Pete (mrbobblehat) has an Impreza Estate - we didn't drive it down to L2A , we took the cheaper Ford Focus Diesel Estate option ..... but I think he is wishing we had of done !!!! wink

R32, Yes, and she does motorways OK too! Very Happy

Beautiful day again today. Quite fresh, but not desparately cold, although to be fair I was only half way up the grand viking at the highest point. The snow is great and judging by the roof of the van, about 20-25cms fell on Friday and Saturday. Lots of peeps had lots of probs getting here. Shock

2 pix from the village: One showing an unusual view of La Muzelle and the other showing a chalet I photographed in the summer. Nice olf chalet, even older one behind (probably at least 200years).

Today was and is fairly grey and miserable, although with brighter parts. It hasn't really snowed, but the odd flake is floating around. It's been around freezing all day, so just about right, and with good snow on the nursery slopes.

The town is fairly busy as it's the first week of the French hols and there are hoards of small children all over the place!

Pic taken looking South from the Grand Viking poma lift.

fragy, depends on whether you want to test them or not! I would say rent for the March week and try a different pair every day. If you then buy you won't pay the rental, and you'll get the pair you like. Buying at home is fine if you know what you want, but generally better in resort. Suggest you try Sport Emotion at the entrance to town - they have a big variety available ... (Don't tell Jutta I said that). Embarassed Embarassed
