Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Seriously heavy rain last night - thunder and lightening at one point Shocked

We too are having a slow start, but a friend has phoned to say that the snow in the Les Gets bowl has held up remarkably well - very sticky though.

Will report back later / tomorrow - depending on how much is drunk at lunch!

Blue sky just peeking through the clouds in Les Gets - the rain (and very strong wind at around 4 am. according to husband, I was dosed up with Night Nurse) finally gave way to snow while we were enjoying our smoked salmon, scrambled eggs and bucks fizz, and then just fizz with a few pressies, bit more snow. Daughter and OH are off to get her pass and a ski round and we are lunching on Mt Chery later - I think the House Fairy needs to do a few things here - don't want to be toooo wet to sit and eat my lunch.

Enjoy whatever you are all doing - amazingly the flights into Geneva seemed to turn up on time and BA was not full yesterday afternoon.

Its not raining....

MMMmmmm just had the most delicious toffee vodka, now Christmas dinner may be served bit late, is already out of sync Embarassed Good first day on the slopes, though icy hail was painful especially as left buff at appartment. Snow varied but all skiable, quick run Mont Chery before end of day - enough powder for me to go over in Toofy Grin

Anyone up for a mini snowHead bash/meet?

wozza, gotta tell you we had a blast today, vis was naff, icy wind on the ridges, but the Lindarets bowl was fine between the trees.
Snowing too, so topping up for your visit. See you at Geneva on 27th.

Merry Christmas to one and all who find this thread today.
Team Apex.

Lou, sorry back on transfer duty tomorrow. Morning trips every day till well into New Year.
We did a mini bash before christmas last year, maybe try later in the season.

I'm definitely up for hooking up with anybody in the PDS between 28th Dec - 2nd Jan (I'm staying in Morzine with DallyPaul), either during the day or evening. I'll be boarding solo during the days, and will have my daughter with me in the evenings, so probably won't be indulging in the Jäger bombs Crying or Very sad

DallyPaul, really looking forward to it! See you at 'The Hub' cafe bar at Geneva Airport on 27th.

Was updating one of my blogs, http://alpschaletforsale.com with the latest snow conditions, thought it was relevant here too.

26/12/009. No pictures I'm afraid. Just to say that the "early season" conditions have fluctuated hugely, from very good conditions to very bad conditions! The stable weather of the middle of the month broke down around the 20th of December, since then the temperature has been fluctuating from "Baltic" to "Tropical" and is still in that cycle. Thanks to some very cold conditions in the middle of the month everything from the valley floor up, with artificial snow cover is white and varies from good to icy, from 1500m to 1800m the natural snow starts to appear and anything above 1800m is in good condition. These observations seem to match quite closely the full descritption from the " Bulletin neige et avalanches".

http://france.meteofrance.com/france/MONTAGNE?MONTAGNE_PORTLET.path=montagnebulletinneige/DEPT74

I was out briefly today on the piste with the kids, I haven't been out touring (was back in the UK for a few days) but even though there is a bit of "fresh" out there it is hiding some fairly hard lumps!

If you have a look at

http://www.skitour.fr/topos/dernieres-sorties.php and

http://www.camptocamp.org/outings/list/orderby/date/order/desc

You'll see that not much is being done around here at the moment.

I am coming out to Les Crosets for tomorrow for New Year week.
I,m undecide what skis to bring?
Based on the current conditions and the possible rain /snow forecast next week do I plump for old faithful Piste or shiny new Powder? Is the off piste worth the effort at the moment or am I just being too pessimistic based on what I can make out from here in Blighty?
What do you guys in the PDS think.

Bring both! Be positive and don't believe the forecast. Though if it turns out to be reliable I would not expect the snow to be too light and fluffy.

Looks like another clear, sunny day. Last time I looked, snow showers forecast for this afternoon. Cannons have been on overnight in Les Gets.

Thinking about meeting up for a vin chaud/coffee at La Grande Course, Mont Chery Dec 31 in the morning if any snowHeads about?

Would be great if we could, although I know some of you are working.

Cold, blue skies and bumper queues here this morning! Snow is good above about 1600m on Swiss side with icy patches just to keep you on your toes. Ripaille/Grand Paradis run still not open though. Can highy recommend new Yert (Not sure of spelling) in Grand Paradis car park for apres ski! If you are staying in Champery.

Linderats, bottom of Hauts Fortes, Arare and Super Morzine today. All icy, but with good cover and no patches showing through. The pisteurs are obviously doing their stuff...

Lou, I'll probably be skiing in Les Gets on 31st, but won't be able to get over to Mont Chery sorry as I'm teaching some friends to telemark and Mont Chery isn't very beginner tele friendly. Could you PM some early evenings for a beer perhaps?

No bad at all out there today and with a bit of fresh snow the pistes this afternoon were getting much better. Still boiler plate hard in places (had a moan to MR S&T about state of my edges - hankering for a new pair of skis!) but not at all that bad.

FAR TOOOOOOO MANY PEOPLE OUT!!!! Queue at Proclou was the worst!

Should be good tomorrow rolling eyes - in the 'translucent snow' that is forecast! Crying or Very sad

Busy? Never! Didn't queue at LGT today. Though the beginners had to wait a while at the nursery buttons. The fresh snow was helping loads.

Wasn't sure where to post this but guess this is as good as anywhere - I have a tooth that is giving me some gip and I'm not keen on waiting until UK next week as it's worse tonight. I have two names of dentists in Les Gets, just wondering if anyone has been to either/could recommend?

Bit wet here this morning, but the snow plough was up and down early, and clearing our driveway, all with huge amount of noise - so he must believe the forecast that after the rain the snow is coming so he needs to get organised. Looks like snow at the end of the week with quite a bit of Friday night - who knows.

Our young are off to Avoriaz today - I shall be finding a sock to darn (never been known) or a cake to make I think.

Lou, have sent you a PM re the dentist.

Snoozie, once down in Les Gets, there is a little train "le petit train" Madeye-Smiley which will bring you over the other side to Mont Chery or it's a 10min walk.

7and2suited, as Pamski says, it's raining today with more to come but there was a decent snowfall yesterday which should have helped. There are a few patches and quite a few icy patches but generally the pistes have been very well managed.

Continuing off topic just for a moment, just to say that have seen dentist, very efficient, saw me virtually straight away, very impressed. Repeat of a problem I had with same tooth last year, has given me antibiotics so hopefully will kick in later. No more alcohol for me but will be worth it if no pain Very Happy

Still raining though not hard, 5C - will head out shortly.
