That's good news, but I wonder how you can demonstrate that you have been in the UK (or one of the eligible countries) for 14-days prior to arrival in Austria? If someone asked me to prove I'd be in the UK for the last 14 days I'm not sure how I could do it. |
Surely the word of an Englishman (or 'palabra de ingles' as I believe the South American phrase goes) is good enough? |
Perhaps it would be good enough, but in my hypothetical situation it wouldn't help me

@rob@rar, Ah yes, I'd forgotten you're Welsh (rather unfortunate that the word can have another meaning in English )

@radar, Unfortunately I turned my tracking off a year ago, my Mrs will be fine though so looks like I will take a bank statement. However I can't see that anyone is going to check since we will be driving into Austria in a German hire car.

Without wanting to come over all @stanton you might want to be a bit cautious. This could change at any time. The German language media has been getting more and more nervous about rising infections, especially for returning holidaymakers. Germany is on the point of introducing compulsory test for returnees, obviously there is the news from the UK this evening. If you do plan to go to Austria (or elsewhere) you need to be flexible and be aware that you might have to change plans at very short notice, committing large sums of money to a holiday at the moment is a big risk.

How do you prove that you haven’t been to a country outside those permitted in the last 10 days? Phone records? Phone tracking?

Suspect the key word is ‘demonstrate’ rather than ‘prove’ ? Dunno....

@JimboS, online banking for me, if i get challenged

@radar, ah never knew about that, sneaky but useful i guess.
Online banking would only work if you went to a hole in the wall everyday for last 10 days wouldn’t it? For all travellers also.

@Markymark29, Was using online banking as an umbrella for credit card as well. Plenty of UK action on both

@jafa, On page 11 you have a link to the Austrian Embassy site, this is the link to the interior ministry https://bmi.gv.at/news.aspx?id=6848727832704B4B752F633D,(they are in the process of updating it at the moment, we have discovered that the Austrian Tourist Board site isn't always as upto date as it should be.

Possibly not, but I had a call from a friend who has just spoken to a lawyer from the Austrian Govt and it was he, who pointed us to the latest changes, which are documented on that site.
If theres anyone to trust, Id rather chose an Austrian one over a UK one.

Austria has downgraded its "travel alert" for the UK from level 6 to level 4 (from TT blog via Google translate)
❗ Travel warning for Great Britain only at level 4
The travel alert for the UK was lowered from level six to level four ("high security risk") on Monday morning . Corona infection numbers in the UK have "stabilized at a relatively low level," a spokesman for the State Department told the APA.
▶ ️ In addition, unnecessary trips to Great Britain should be avoided .
▶ ️ The Foreign Ministry divides travel security into six levels . Level 1 means "good security standard" in a country. Epidemics as a possible cause for a note on travel safety can be found in levels 2 to 6.
▶ ️ Level 4 means a "high security risk in a country" . Travel to the country that is not absolutely necessary is not recommended. According to the State Department, the causes include violent clashes with fatalities, high risk of terrorist attacks, natural disasters (volcanic eruption, earthquakes, floods) and industrial accidents with resulting personal injury and property damage or epidemics.
Not sure about the risk from natural disasters perhaps that covers Boris
Perhaps more relevantly Bavaria is setting up testing stations for returning holiday makers not only at airports but also at places like the autobahn station at Kiefersfelden, Munich Hauptbahnhof etc. There is some debate about whether this will be compulsory (there are doubts about whether that would be legal) but it will at least be "strongly recommended". The details are currently unclear and whether the tests would be for returns from all destinations (the Tirol currently has a very low level of infections as opposed to say Croatia) and also for non German residents. Anyone planning on travelling through Germany to Austria should keep an eye out for changes on this
