Ah yes, that's a classic@Richard_Sideways.
Disconcerting though: while the decor could well help you 'go', the camera, I think, might hamper performance.

Yes indeed, I expect he could, but with the result that it would have to be sold from the top shelf

@admin, Publish and be damned. OR maybe, just feed me your stories, I'm short of material for next missive.
In fact anyone/everyone please tell me your most horrific/funny ski stories.

Get well soon mate.

Oh shit, not that bloody cat again!
Funnily enough I was thinking of Chris at Geneva airport this morning as groups of 'lads' were arriving for skiing

Cheers @ansta1 I'm back in the UK now having leg muscles and nerves reconnected tomorrow.
@boredsurfin, This time the Agent of Entropy was a snowboarder not a cat.
- Although, to be fair it was a bit of a freaky accident and he was "tress désolé"
At least now I have time to read a good book and work on SWD3.

@boredsurfin,
It wasn’t really the snowboader's fault. We had both noticed that our trajectories intersected; we had both change courses simultaneously unfortunately they too intersected. Finally, at the last minute we both turned sharply in opposite directions and the razor sharp edge of his snowboard sliced half-way threw my calf (to the bone!)
OR maybe, after all the mickey I've taken out of boarders in my books, he was actually a "Snowboarding Assassin" ? ( great character for a novel - me thinks )

@boredsurfin, Yes - he failed to kill me, but he has ruined my chances of gold in the forthcoming olympics.
Everything has gone well surgically - 4 hours of reconstruction by top plastic surgeon Mr Wok.
(he threw in a facelift )
2 week in plaster, 4 week in a plastic boot, then 3-6 months of physiotherapy to shake the muscles out of stasis
- I may never get full movement or sensation in my right foot again.
Good title for a book: "Skiing With Demons - My Right Foot"
This season I wanted to get my BASI2 and improve my SCGB Leaders grade so they'd send me somewhere other than Laax
- now my goal is to ski a blue run again next season.
So - YES, your going to hear a lot from me on SnowHeads this winter

@skiingwithdemons, Ohh booger! Oh well at least theres another knowledgeable poster ...and a chance to promote the books.

@skiingwithdemons, poor you, it made my feet fizz, (they always do that when there is something that might make me faint,) reading all of that. I had thought I saw your vehicle in Morzine a couple of weeks ago, well saw the spare wheel with the Skiing with Demons cover on it.
Not much more to say but huge sympathy and I will look forward to the next edition.

I think BASI need a new disciple. "Crutch Instructor" (I checked the spelling of that twice).
Moving around a house on crutches is an artform and let's face it, most avid skiers will end up on them at some stage.
Snowplough on Crutches:
The hop. Gets you out of trouble in tight situations
Carving on Crutches:
It's important to bend-s-knee under your pelvis and lean forward from the hips. You've got to keep the weight forward.
Start from a stable tripod (good leg + 2 crutches)
Crutches should be held out in front of you so you can see the backs of your hands and arms should be bent in a gorilla shape.
You must have your centre of gravity above the skis ( I mean crutches).
To make a step you swing your centre of gravity over the fulcrum point (vertical fall-line) and place your good foot in front reforming the stable tripod.
Repeat - adjust your step length to the steepness of the terrain.
If you have left two clean rows of equally spaced pole marks on the carpet behind you, you know your at the BASI Level-1 Crutch Standard.

Thanks @ousekjarr, The first chapter has just written itself.
I didn't realise that when you lose the use of a leg you lose the use of your hands.
- they are permanently holding the crutches. So you can't carry anything.
I have resorted to wearing my skiing rucksack around the house to carry things.
- I've taken the probe and shovel out - obviously.
Although I'm thinking the prob could be adapted to grab things out of reach.
|
|
|
|
|

Get yourself one of those litter picking grab things and strap it to the side of one crutch. Hang an old fashioned bike shopping basket off the other, then all you have to do is train the dog to make tea and deliver biscuits without scoffing them en route and you’ll be fine!

@ousekjarr, thanks for the tips.
Think you've overestimate what Oscar's pea-like brain is capable of and then there is the whole opposable thumbs issue.
Apparently dogs can reporteby smell medical problems e.g detect if a diabetic's blood sugar is low, detect cancer cells etc. Dogs in old peoples' homes often sit outside the door of someone who is about to die!
Which makes the fact that Oscar keep sniffing my leg very worrying.
Worse still, I'm stuck in the same room with him all day and he has got very bad flatulence at the moment.

My F-in-L had an infected wound from a minor operation on his leg, and was persuaded to get it seen to when the family black lab kept trying to lick it...
Maybe fit him with panniers?
