Am I right in thinking this is a harsher lockdown than seen at any time last winter in Austria? I seem to recall mountains open to locals/residents even if hotels weren't taking guests.

@dharnett, it's harsher in regard to skiing but schools are still open so not as harsh in that regard.

From the Obertauern website… The Austrian government has decided on a temporary lockdown, which will come into effect from Nov 22 until Dec 13 at the latest.
I guess it’s just wait and see for now. And work on plan B!

We're aware that Austria announced a national lockdown today, due to start on Monday and last a maximum of 20 days.
We wanted to reassure you that your holiday is expected to go ahead as planned and that the lockdown is due to end before your departure date. |
We're due to fly out on 13th!

Euro tunnel is a flexible booking, can be rebooked. Staying in a borrowed appt. so nothing ventured or lost (yet).

My hotel in Obergurgl is saying they can’t open until the 13th.. I think someone has the maths wrong. I will see if hotels in Innsbruck are open on 12th - no BA flights on the 13th.

Seems that indeed Austrian maths is officially screwy. Oh well. No skiing for me until Feb. Though I could look at another country I guess.

were due to fly on 8th Jan and i'm staying positive. A LOT can change in that time, and having just returned from berlin I'm perfectly happy / comfortable with the idea of showing covid status to enter bars / hotels etc....it worked really well and didn't dampen our trip at all.

Fly 25/12 can cancel without loss in a couple of days. Will be having a serious think. How are other destinations looking? Are any in a better position?

Excuse I but....00.01 on 22nd November plus 20 days takes us to 23.59 on Saturday December 11th. The 13th December is 21 days + so 'should' be fine! Prepared to be corrected if wrong - but hope not!

I was going with http://skivolution.co.uk/ on the 27th, they are trying to find something in Cervinia or Tignes which would be good for me for the PSB, I can't do the PiPAU because of work so I have to go back for a week before going to La Tania with The Ski Gathering for Xmas

The issue with dates is we are used to seeing inclusive dates, the regulation has not been published so people are using dates from the press which may or may not be inclusive. I have seen a couple of websites change the dates during the course of the day.
Logic says the last day should be 11th with everything open on 12th.

@radar, I only use that term because it seems to be sadly missing with what has been allowed to hapen since the summer when the Chancellor said the pandemic was over! As @Scarlet said Innsbruck tourism says 12th on it's website and 13th on Twitter!

@mountainaddict, no. Travel is still allowed. There is no flight ban. Run the plane empty and keep the money. Ryanair will be the same.. I'm in for £400, but I accepted the risk when I booked.

They won’t fly if almost empty. On my return in March 2020 (the day after “ischgl”) I asked how many were on the outward flight. 4.
If people can’t stay in hotels on 11th, virtually no one will fly. Most if not all flights will be cancelled.

the 11th is a saturday so as I see it even if everything is go on the 12th any one lucky enough to get there may find the hotelaccomodation needs you out on the following saturday 18th, as thats the regular change over day . Im glad weve booked for much later in the season but im not holding as much hope as I was just a few days ago of being able to go, now they are saying all locals jabbed from feb ,doesnt give time for any positive response

@ski for fun, all locals jabbed before Feb. The vax rate has increased the last couple of weeks so time for second dosed before Feb for some. The biggest difference will come from boosters rather than new jabs though. Tirol is having a massive push the next couple of weeks, all a bit to late if you ask me though.

You could try Munich, Salzburg or Memmingen instead. About a 3h drive from those locations (Memm 2h 45m, though Ryan air, not BA but dirt cheap). Car rental from those places should also be cheaper than Innsbruck

You assume people bought non refundable tickets. The flights really will mostly be cancelled.

@buchanan101, all Ryanair tickets are non cancellable and non refundable. If you don't want to travel you just don't turn up. I managed to claim on insurance last year but not covered this year

Salzburg no good for BA on Mondays. Munich could be an option. May book - can always cancel. SnowHeads have tried to dissuade me from using Munich before due to heavy traffic in to Austria…
