@speed098, why should GA answer a former member's questions about anything?
For once and for all, DG is an ex member, who has not been allowed to rejoin the club which he wishes to get wound up in some way or other, as he has stated above.
DG has nothing to do with SCGB.
DG is not a rational human being - he needs professional help.
Maybe best if next time GA is approached by any reporter or even a prospective member to just tell them to go away! Afterall they are not members.
GA would answer the questions because he is the representative of the SCGB it part of his job to answer questions if he does not think it is then better he goes. If you don't think the officials need to answer questions be them from ex members or non members then god help the club if you become an official. Seriously you need to think about what you say Scrumpy. You have made it clear you are a member and you are not portraying the membership in a good light, ( I do hope you are not an official of the SCGB ).
Maybe DG does need help that is not something I am proffessionaly qualified to make, are you qualified to make that essertion?
So after almost 102 pages with borderline insults between DG and GA why does GA not just answer the questions and shut up DG ? If for no other reason than it is well worth spending an hour or two on, yet it would probably take 20 minutes.
If I was a journalist I would put these questions to GA because I would be intrigued to see if he does have something to hide. More probably he does not, but for 10 minutes work I may end up with a great story of scandal and corruption going to the very top of one of the UK's oldest sports institutions. This is what GA and the board of the SCGB should be considering.

rob@rar, simple answer to that one, Rob. I have no posting facility on either the SCGB website (either as a registered user or member) or Facebook page. This has all been blocked.
Curious! A full member not allowed to use the Club's facilities. Perhaps you're not a member after all...?

Given that the SCGB officially describes its voice as representative of all British skiers...
Just out of interest, why do you say "officially" (my bold in your quote)? What makes them "official"? Do they have a statutory basis? A Royal warrant or charter? Privy Council approval? If that's your excuse for abusing (IMO) snowHeads it's a very poor one.

In depths of winter two-oh and twelve
a thread was spun by a marketing elve
to encourage the SHeaders to come and see
this kingdoms club of snow and ski
But the trick earned quick rebuff
and soon the elf had had enough
"I'm off!" he squeaked "that's all, I'm done!"
and three posts in, away he'd run.
Quite returned to forum thread
but in the dark, one scratched his head
A Smith of gold had something to say
and knew that every dog has his day
He'd use the elfs errant post
to do the thing he loved the most
to vent and rant and scream and shout
and call that Ski Club to account.
Occupying the elfs former hole
he fashioned himself a brand new troll
he gave it voice and bile with glee
and gave it the name 'Comedy'
The troll marched forth and and sought to fight
Sir Gerry, the clubs most noble knight.
For years the battle raged back and forth
with quips and barbs and quick retorts
Numbers questioned, accounts unpicked
Terms, conditions, elections rigged?
boos and jeers and swears and such
the locals all shouted "ENOUGH! TOO MUCH!"
Sir Gerry even quit the war
went back home and shut the door
drew the curtains, hung up the phone
but the troll could not leave it alone.
Into Sir Gerrys Whitehouse keep,
That troll, inside, he tried to creep
Having been cast out before,
he thought he'd found an open door
he click the link and details tapped
and got an email - said "Welcome chap!"
but then a reply "ACCESS DENIED"
the troll distraught wailed
"THOSE ROTTERS LIED!"
The page count rose as did the views
The Troll started presenting news
opinions which he thought they'd share
postings from his trollie lair
as pages totals five score plus two
Most had moved to pastures new
Without Sir Gerry, the wars one sided
the troll became largely derided
"you've said your bit, move on, you're done"
"we get it, enough, you're songs been sung"
But troll kept going, trapped in a loop
picking the carcass, posting poop
for reasons which stretch back decades
this one man army still crusades
"GIVE ME THE TRUTH" his battle cry
still echos into empty sky
"THESE THINGS I DO DEMAND TO KNOW!"
but we just come here for the snow...

@David Goldsmith, I watched the Slide videocast on the Ski Club site a few days ago and found it really interesting. As a Ski Club member I see no reason why the Ski Club shouldn't be part of the UK's Ski trade body, makes perfect sense. Gives them access to useful information and good networking I would imagine. The discounts available through the Ski Club have been very useful for us - 10-15% off a pair off ski boots.
You sound as if you would rather us return to the 50's where such nasty things as commercialism were frowned upon by the Upper classes, Gentlemen and Players - everyone knew their place.
Organisations change over time. I've been a member of British Cycling (formerly British Cycling Federation and before that British League of Racing Cyclists) for 26 years (much longer than my membership of the ski club). It's changed hugely and is now a fairly commercial organisation - not a problem as cycling has changed also (being a Club racing cyclist used to mark me out as a bit odd, now, for better or worse, it's almost the national sport!). British Cycling offers plenty of discounts to it's members. Some of these are very close tie in's with major online cycling retailers - personally this pisses me off rather as I am a Cycle Retailer but I can see the benefit for the British Cycling members!
I do wish you would stop insisting you are a member of the Ski Club when you know fully well this is untrue.
I doubt that it qualifies as a red herring. Perhaps a red plankton....
Do I understand you correctly? You are proposing that this menagerie extends from dinosaurs, skinned cats, herrings ... now to plankton?
Let's be clear - the Ski Club of Great Britain is a collective of regular human beings, like you and I.
Just so there's no doubt I posted this:
"Just so that you know it's no longer 1990. Times change and so apparently has the SCGB and their membership. Apparently some things never change, and other things do. Some things move with the times and some don't, those that don't are sometimes referred to as dinosaurs."
So I say the SCGB and it's demographic has changed. Things that don't change are called dinosaurs. Apparently they had rather small brains.

I'm not sure what's worse, the involvement of people who should know better, or the feeding of people who appear not to know any better.
IMHO it bismirches the reputations of all who are involved in it.... and by extension those of us attracted here, like moths to the flame, even if we've only come to see 'is it _still_ going on?'.
Meanwhile, in the rest of the world, people go skiing, enjoy themselves, and perhaps even try to learn how to:

why does GA not just answer the questions and shut up DG ?
It may be that he cannot respond here - having been quietly blocked/banned. . Poetic justice if so.
Whatever, previous responses from GA or his socks to DG and his socks have neither generated calm nor provided useful new information. Perhaps it's best he just stays away.
From previous experience, a Gerry presence here will NOT shut up DG.
GA has said elsewhere that the questions have been answered but that DG did not like them (the answers).
If I was GA I wouldnt just be answering random questions on internet websites, there are proper channels for them to be addressed. Not that GA seems like much of a professional to me. Before DG gets all excited about that comment - I dont think DG presents himself as one either.

[Side Note: Yesterday afternoon, David Goldsmith was subjected to a sophisticated remote scam (attempted fraud) by a group of individuals posing as a TalkTalk call centre who phoned him and reported "problems with your TalkTalk router." TalkTalk is DG's phone/broadband provider. These people 'helpfully' (not) investigated his computer, which involved collaboration between DG and the remote engineers. They informed DG that his computer had been hacked and took him through processes that appeared to prove this, clearly visible on the monitor. The engineers explained that the TalkTalk router was incorrectly supplied and explained that a £200 refund would be made.
He was remotely led to a page with every common bank logo and asked to click into the right one. He did so. At that point he raised a simple point to the caller: "I would just like to check with my bank that this is approved. Please could we stop the call here." DG believes that his computer now has dangerous software installed on it, and will not be posting from that computer until further notice. That software is called "ShowMyPC and ShowMyPC Collaboration 3160.
It is important to point out that none of this will affect the operations of the Ski Club of Great Britain. 'Business as normal' is the obvious phrase.]

Gerry Aitken would presumably be the first to point that out if it was true. The mods/admin can explain if his username Gerry has been disabled. If so, he's at liberty to post under any other name, or respond to the 10 questions on the SCGB website.

Really. You made the error of quoting a direct communication (email) from the CEO of the SCGB. That proved that the SCGB can, and will, be legally obliged to disclose your ID. That's because you resort to libel and very unpleasant levels of abuse to achieve whatever it is you're trying to achieve.
In the current era (it used to work in the old days, because free open communication wasn't facilitated) those tactics are extremely ill-advised. Most people have reasonably independent minds and are able to make the call, when the call's needed. The redundant 'club ways' of blackballing, smearing, smoke-filled rooms, ganging-up and so on - certainly not unique to the SCGB - are breaking down in the 21st century.
The original qualities of the Ski Club of Great Britain - genuine fraternity, rather than 'discriminatory fraternity' - will win through, in one form or another. It was a wonderful organisation in its time, and most members of the human race like to get on with one another ... whatever the time or place.
So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

I'm afraid the fact that you fell for such an obvious scam probably tells us all we need to know!
You know it makes sense.
You know it makes sense.
@Karl Marx, worth pointing out that "ShowMyPC" is a perfectly legitimate piece of software - just allows remote access to a PC via a remote connection - i've used it myself to fix the MiL computer remotely. However, as you've let gawd knows who onto your machine who may have installed gawd knows what, I suggest a deep clean. Plus if you have any account details stored on the file system or passwords stored in files under any identifiable file names, get to work and start changing them now. Also beware of repeat calls - you're details will be have been tagged and commoditised as a target by now.
Out of interest - did they give you your account number etc - apparently Talk talk had a major breach of security tail end of last year when one of their call centre operators stole a large amount of customer data.

An unlikely deduction, but maybe time for a reminder ...
SCGB helmet pushing: the record, the truth How the Ski Club of Great Britain worked the persuasion game
Since helmets are back on the sH agenda today, thanks to certain ski insurers making them mandatory (why?) ... and BASI possibly about to demonstrate helmets as standard kit, via commercial sponsorship (why? needs clarification) ...
... it's time for a reminder of efforts made by the SCGB to mislead its members and the general public with misleading or false propaganda over the past 15 years ...
In the year 2000 ...
The SCGB publication 'Club Talk' Spring News 2000 falsely stated that "head injuries account for 50% of reported accidents", in order to punt a range of helmets ...
In 2009 ...
... the SCGB jointly published a commercial press release with the discount rental chain Ski Republic, containing bogus claims relating to head injuries and helmets. This was accepted in good faith by the Daily Telegraph (the information had, after all been issued by the Ski Club of Great Britain) and the Press Complaints Commission investigated ...
http://www.pcc.org.uk/news/index.html?article=NjI4Ng==
If ski insurers make helmets mandatory, skiers will have no choice but to wear them. The SCGB could vigorously oppose such impositions, to stand up for freedom of choice. That freedom could rapidly evaporate, if helmet-pushing continues.
The balanced truth: trust a doctor ...
Dr Mike Langran - Cairngorm ski patroller and medic - of ski-injury.com ...
