Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

mnp, welcome to snowHead

Although I'm over in the next valley (where the car park prices have risen this year by €3 per week to €88 for underground) IIRC Bourg have made all the public parking in 1800 pay-time. But Rob may be better placed to comment.

MNP - For the Belmont have the option of parking outside in one of the resort car parks or upgrading (via your TO or with Pierre & Vacances directly if you booked direct) and paying for the residence covered parking - I suggest you book this in advance for that week to be sure of a place. You have to pay about 60EUR for a week anyway in Arcs 1800 just to park outside so the difference is worth it.

If you want it to be free this is possible by relocating the car to outside the resort area where there are some limited areas to park in and walking/bussing back. For a long stay you will inevitably have to dig it out quite hard and you risk damage to the car for which you'll be charged significantly if you don't have all the excess waivers in place. This time of year I'd pay to park under cover. I'm already bored of digging the car out at home - it is your holiday after all!

Snowcrazy - did I meet you in Georges bar in 1950 earlier this week? I was with the group of wannabee drunkards who watched the "x-factor" final in there on Sunday night, not the film stars... Although some did spot celebrities later on in the trip.

set off on our trip this morning from the south coast. Truck packed and ready for the snow.
As soon as we hit Calais you could see the snow had settled everywhere. As we continued through France it didnt let up. I must have counted over 25 snow ploughs today.
We got 2hrs from Bourge En Bresse and the heavens opened. It literally was snowing so hard all traffic had to stop as the lines, laybys and road direction vanished. No need for chains but 4x4 was essential.
We made it to our first stop in a Formule1 just outside BEB. Still snowing heavy outside and forecast to continue.
Whats happening on the mountain?

See you at the top Smile

Sorry can't help with Arc 1800 parking charges. I have my own parking space in our garage so I don't pay the resort charge.

TBO, I don't think a 4x4 with slicks is much better than any decent FWD motor..

The map has Ecureuils marked as a black - he'll never speak to me again if he sees a black pole!!!!

I'll give it a go (and make a right hash of it, I'm sure) but is there an easy red? (The kids were pushed a little too far by ski school in Val Tho a couple of years ago and now look for green all the way - hence Les Arcs this time cos Blue=Easy wink )

Today the update need really be only one word. POWDER!!!

Seriously though, what a great day. After loads of snow at the start of the month, then rain that washed a lot of it away, then freezing temperatures and now finally more snow and plenty of it. We really did need this top up and it has come just in time.

Yesterday while the storm was here, very little stayed open on the hill. Two lifts in Arc 2000 bowl and only a few more in the other areas.

Today, the sun came out, the main connecting lifts opened and everywhere there was powder and blue sky. Quite cold, but worth the effort to get out in the white stuff. Most of the pistes are now open and in very good condition, although there are some icy patches lower down. Off piste is excellent where it is safe to go, but at level 4 you have to take great care.

The roads tonight driving home were icy and even with winter tyres you need to go very slowly. Bring your chains if you are driving out or you may well not make it up to resort.

Tomorrow looks a little cloudier but still OK and then the snow will be back as the week progresses.

I will post the official snow depths etc provided by the pisteurs each day as well now starting from tomorrow. Very Happy

mnp, Ecureuils is known to some as the easiest black in the Alps. The top part, is actually quite steep and under some conditions there may possibly be easier blacks....possibly - so I've been told.

Now... here's the result for you. Go up the 2300 (66) lift. At the top go right, not right and down, just right. Stay 'off-piste' for the twenty yards or so (there's a pathway) and you'll be on Ecureuils, but you've missed the steepish bit at the top. When you get down to the top of the Peisey lift you have three choices. TBO Combs is probably the hardest, although 'red'. You could follow Ecureuils down to Peisey (shouldn't be black) or cut right and aim for at the bottom of the 66 across the 'quiet zone'.

Just posted some pics of the work that has been finished for the start of the season over in my facebook group for those that are interested.

The Snowpark T.Bar Tow is now up and running, that should be very interesting, one good thing, it makes it easy to get over to the Altiport when you feel lazy. So there is one plus at least.

The Rope tow in the Arc 2000 bowl works, but is very slow, my friend skates quicker than it takes on the tow, but still!! Toofy Grin

The moving carpet going up to the flame is finished, but not working yet as is the moving carpet (with a tunnel) going up to the Arc 2000 Ice rink (well almost finished).

Other news:

The new terrace for the Arpette is now finished with a new outside (covered when needed) bar area. Very nice. They are also running the one above Peisey Vallandry now and the Altiport as they did last season. More about these places later.

The new Outdoor Bar/snacks cafe near the forest at the top of the Peisey lift is now open. More details to follow.

A number of other places have changed hands and i will update them in the coming days.

East's in Arc 1950 as reported earlier is no more. What is to follow, we are still waiting to see.

The snow park above Arc 1600 and 1800 is well on it's way and should be open very soon.

The boarder cross in the Arc 2000 bowl has not yet been started but they have put the first tracks down for the new luge (Rodeo Park) from the top of the Arcabulle to the bottom which I do not like as it goes through a great off pi...ste area, but I know many will enjoy it. They say this is progress, oh well!! But it is a fun ski route till it is finished so there is a small plus right now.

None of the race course stades are open for training yet, but some should be very soon I was told today.

The avalanche training park is now being prepared and I will be publishing details of planned training there for those that want it very soon.

They say Villaroger area may open tomorrow as with the remaining closed pistes and lifts within the next few days.

Snow levels are increasing nicely now, but it was avalanche risk 4 today so be careful out there. Next update tomorrow with more news of other developments in resort taking place right now. Toofy Grin

For anyone wanting up-to-date feeds direct to there iphone for Les Arcs slope reports, weather, snow conditions, avalanche levels and details about pistes that are open each morning. I have been told by one of the youngsters that if you join my facebook Les Arcs group and add a facebook app, not sure what that is but guess those of you in the know understand. Then you will get the morning update that I am now doing with the pisteurs each day. At least that is how it is supposed to work I have been told.

If someone does try it and it does work, maybe it might be possible to link it to this thread so that I can post it here as well, not sure how, but someone might know? If you do understand all this stuff please post or PM me. Always willing to give something new a try.

Hello everyone, I'm just in the process of booking a trip to Les Arcs for next Monday (27th Dec) I'm looking in to buying lift passes and I can only really seem to see ones where they want to post them out to me.

Can someone advise on where I can buy them? I'm going to be staying in Arc 1800 - wouldn't mind purchasing when there. Will price differ?

Any help, really appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

sicharlton, if you book on line, it gives you the option to pick up at your 1800 pass outlet, by showing your online receipt

As an example of mix and match: there's three of us in the resort regularly, so our passes are in our 'cave'. But next week (arrive late 26th) we have a 4th with us. So I've booked a 'family' pass: our existing cards are charged up, ready to go - the accompanying child will his pick up on the Monday morning prior to ski school.

Price is the same, it's just convenient to do it ahead of the game (both for you and those in the queue behind you...)
